2008-05-18 15:01:00 I'm really missing my blog sister, Mes Deaux Cents, this morning. See yesterday I "discovered" a great new singer. (Readers in the UK are going, "Yeah, um, she's not new here.") Adele is a 20-year-old soul and jazz singer that has been dubbed "the new Amy Winehouse." After enjoying a couple of her songs, I downloaded her album yesterday and have been playing it obsessively ever since. It's wonderful: soulful, melodic, passionate. I'm hooked!Anyway, MDC shares my eclectic taste in music, my knack for finding great stuff not getting major airplay in the U.S., and my sad addiction to iTunes. Here's a fantastic live performance of the song on Mark's Electric Proms '07 event (by the way, there a thousand vids from that concert, and they're fantastic, and we'll be posting highlights from it in the future). It's not quite the same as the studio performance, but she's such a strong live performer that it's almost as perfect as the original. She completely deserves all the "Next big thing in '08" hype that she gets.

If you follow Mark Ronson's radio show, an up-and-coming musician named Adele has probably been on your radar for a while now. If you haven't heard of her, most people compare her to Amy Winehouse. To me, she sounds exactly halfway between Winehouse and Sia (both of whom have shown up on this blog multiple times). God bless whoever Youtubed this cover yesterday, because it's so loveable. Adele did an acoustic-jazz-like cover of "Last Nite" by The Strokes, and shows off the ridiculous amount of charisma she has. Her Ronson collaboration, called "Cold Shoulder" is also really cool, and if you like this, I really recommend seeking out the bootleg. I'll post an audio stream as soon as I get the chance.

Every season I find myself smitten with every piece - the minimalist design is perfect for my needs - but find it hard to buy without being able to try on first. I have a feeling that their clothing will run a bit on the small side, and might not work for women with curves, so I'm hesitant to buy online. But I am curious to find out if the quality and design justifies the higher price point for basics... Anyway, there are more and more places to buy A.P.C. online, including new find (for me), Adele. I love this site's easy to navigate design and great selection of designers like Tony Cohen, Melissa Joy Manning, House of Dagmar, Cacharel, and A.P.C. Actually, they have most of their A.P.C. pieces on sale at the moment, and I'm about 2 seconds away from ordering this smocked blouse (on sale for $93):
