Advent Calendar - the fascination for ancient Egypt
2007-12-20 04:47:00
Modern fascination for ancient Egypt remains high. In spite of some disappointment for the absence of the funerary mask (video below: slow motion video of the mask taken in the Cairo museum by Morganiser) in the current Tutankhamun’s exhibition in London, king Tut is a familiar name and still draws the crowds. Advent Calendar - twinkle, twinkle, little star
2007-12-19 07:01:00
Four years ago today saw the beginning of the ascent of British built space probe, Beagle 2, which aimed to search for life on Mars. Something failed, however, and the barbecue-sized space craft never phoned home, as intended, on Christmas Day. As well as clever instruments, designed to test for the signature of life, Beagle 2 ...
Advent Calendar - Canadian Christmas in Quebec
2007-12-18 01:05:00
When I think of Christmastime in Quebec, the first thing that comes to mind is the snowbound cities and the countryside, lit up with lights. Few people can celebrate Christmas like the Québecois. And few people can match the colour and exuberant and sometimes garish beauty of neighborhood light displays. Photograph of Gatineau Christmas ...

2007-12-16 01:01:00
The Romans can still surprise us. It is rare that some new archaeological discovery in Rome really attracts attention of its citizens, but this is exactly what happened in the past few weeks. Archaeologists may have found the Lupercal, the place where the Romans believed the she-wolf nursed Romulus and Remus. The she-wolf venerated by ...

Advent Calendar - A Second Life for Education?
2007-12-15 11:16:00
In the run up to the first Intute Staff Conference in Nov 2007 the teams were asked to put together a presentation explaining who they were and what they did. The request came with a rather worrying stipulation; ‘no powerpoint’. A presentation without Powerpoint? What could we do? For my part I decided to make ...

Advent Calendar - Blockbuster exhibitions
2007-12-03 12:04:00
I’ve done it again. I’ve been to another ‘blockbuster’ exhibition and I’m strangely disappointed. At a windswept O2 on Monday evening, Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs should have been a triumph but instead it left me cold. Despite the crowded rooms and ‘Egyptian style’ musak, I was waiting for the moment when I would come face to face with the death ...

Handmade Advent Calendars
2007-11-29 19:24:00
As I was visiting over at Allsorts yesterday, I happened to see the post “Red and White and Cute Allover” and it reminded me that I do not have anything planned for advent this year!  I am completely bummed…how in the world did this holiday season sneak up on me like this?? Anyway, I’ve gathered several advent ideas that I thought were nice and I wanted to share them with you.  Maybe I just need to head out to the fabric store and buy some felt and create these little dandies quickly…I think I could make this happen if I work smart! ARTChix Studio has the complete instructions for making this calendar you see above. This one is nice and looks fairly simple to make. I love that it is white and I have just the coffee can I can use. Thanks to Celebrating Christmas, we have the instuctions! Naturelich has a great “neutral” advent calendar. I like the natural colors…very nice! I also like the angle at which this photo is taken. ...
A Tiny Christmas Tree Advent Calendar
2007-11-28 16:10:00
Welcome to another Winter Bazaar for ideas on making the holidays more festive or fun--games, recipes, activities, tips, techniques, traditions, whatever works for you. For past editions click the "crafts" link label at the bottom of this post. This is a tiny Christmas tree advent calender with 24 tiny gifts, each containing an ornament that gets placed on the tree for every day leading up to Christmas. You'll need:A tiny Christmas treeTiny garlands, tiny candy canes, etc.24 tiny ornaments24 greeting cardspress-on numbers24 tiny bowsI got my tree at Michael's and it's nice in that the wire limbs can easily be bent back into place each year when it comes out of storage. I decorated it by sewing mini strands of garland, candy canes and tiny plastic bulbs in place on the branches--these never come off. Though "never" is relatively optimistic. Over the years the kids have "accidentally" stripped the decorations off the branches as they love that poor tree to death.I found 24 differ...

Asthmatic Kitty - Advent Calendar Now Available
2007-11-25 01:01:00
The practice of using a calendar to count down the days until Christmas - an advent calendar - supposedly began in 1851 in Austria with carefully handmade versions. Since then, advent calendars have taken all forms, from chocolate to jello to Lego.Along with illustrator Tom Eaton (who animated Sufjan Stevens' "Put the Lights on the Tree" video), we thought it might be nice to celebrate this year with a very special Asthmatic Kitty advent calendar. And Tom Eaton really came through on this one, detailing the scene with all kinds of nice Christmas surprises. Just don't open them early! We're giving this away free to anyone who purchases Sufjan's Songs for Christmas boxset ($19 for 5 CDs, here), or you buy the calendar separately for $5. To do so, or see a larger image of the calendar, click here.*§ource: Asthmatic Kitty*

The Advent calendar - the nineteenth Trchen

Electronic Weihnachtsmrchen It was once at present t = 0 a poor, but honest four-pole network named Eddy eddy current. He inhabited a modest furnished cavity with dielectric and flowing cold and warm saturation current. Unfortunately it had to pay in the cold season for the heating up of the barrier layers still specially. It denied its living costs with a transducer reinforcement. Eddy loved Ionchen with the whole Kraft of its transient response. Ionchen, the inductive coil with the smallest loss angle generally speaking circles and the daughter of the influential EMK. Their remanent ferrite body, its symmetrical impedances and its extremely harmonious harmonic waves brought already retired Leydener to bottles to estimates in the dielectric (which much wants to be called)! Ionchens father, cosine Phi a well-known industrial magnet and power factor had however already concrete connection diagrams for the future of its daughter. Christmas Advent Calendar
2006-12-12 06:58:01
My children love counting down the days until Christmas and this calendar is simple to make. With the head of a pin, make 24 alternating green and red dots on a 10" white candle. The idea is to each day read Biblical accounts of the Nativity while the candle burns down to the next dot. Here is a link for one possible list of scriptures for reading but you can pick your own verses. I typed up a card with the 24 scripture references for each day that I keep on a ribbon tied around candlestick.Check in with Rocks in My Dryer every Wednesday for other good tips.Technorati tags: Christmas, advent calendar, WFMW holidays
