Movie Review: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse ? Mickey?s Adventures In Wonderland
2009-09-10 05:51:00
As embarrassing as this is to admit, I have never actually read either of the books about Alice and her adventures in Wonderland.  I do have both of them downloaded on my iTouch and I am set to read them right after I finish reading the Jules Verne novel about Captain Nemo and the Nautilus.  ...

Adventures In Hospital Land
2009-07-06 10:59:00
So right now it's past 4 AM, and I am at the hospital with friends and Amy's family. Right now I think the doctor stepped in (unsure as they kicked everyone but one person out of the room) so I fully expect the baby to arrive sometime this morning (hopefully before 8 AM). Everyone else in the waiting room went home except for Amy's parents, her oldest sister and I (we're roughing it for until he is born).I've uploaded a bunch of photos to Facebook already, and will update everyone on her current status from within it ad well (as I am not using Twitter as Facebook is more private). Also, some people have been asking me about my relationship with Amy, as well as Miles her son, so here is the "short & sweet" version which should help kill a few rumors that have been spreading • Amy and I are friends right now, but I do plan on courting/dating her later on • Yes, I do love Amy, and yes she is my first love (no joke) • I am not the biological father of h...
Adventures of a fast foodie: Lunch for $7.50 or less
2009-06-29 19:00:00
You hear that? That's the Munch Time bell ringing and it's time to get our cheap lunch on. Today I'm heading out to Stanley's at 1558 N. Elston Ave. Now we all know Stanley's is the place to get cheap produce. But did you know it's now a place to get cheap lunch? I was tipped off to Stanley's thanks to our own Practically Green blogger, Supriya Doshi, who told me about the potato chip machine. (Thanks Supi!)...

It's a MiniBest! As I catalog on Best after Best on this blog, I am not one to be hampered by the fact that something is fictional; being fictional doesn't make something not The Best, in my opinion, and in fact, not actually existing in the "real" world may help things along. It's a lot easier to be The Best if you don't have to deal with the "real" world, with all the humidity and pieces of bagpipe scattered around my living room and cashiers getting confused when I give them a 50-cents-off-large-soda coupon at the theater and making me Sweetie almost miss the previews...... okay, I got off on a tangent there. What I meant to say is that the fact that something didn't exist in the "real" world may help it be better than things that do exist in the "real" world, because "reality" can only bring things down, sometimes. "Reality" can result in people coming home from an afternoon movie to realize their Babies! got into the bagpipes...... tangent again."Reality" could also resu...

Adventures in Toronto (end)
2009-06-04 16:39:00
This about concludes my Adventures in Toronto. I enjoyed wandering around and eating in Toronto. I definitely plan on making another visit up to Toronto sometime in the future. There's still so much to explore and so much to eat! Here's two restaurants (out of many) that caught my attention as I walked by, but did not have the chance to dine at.Aji Sai Japanese Restaurant, at 467 Queen St West.I would love to try this All you can eat lunch special for $10.99 CAD.Wanda's Belgium Waffles, at 331 Yonge Street. Those waffles looked so good through the window.Toronto, we will meet again! :)Links:- Dim Sum at Bright Pearl Restaurant- Johnny Banana- Eggspectations (1)- Eggspectations (2)- Poutine at Harvey's- Pat's Homestyle Jamaican Restaurant- Sunset Grill- Sushi Island- Tim Horton's
Adventures in Toronto: Eggspectations (2)
2009-06-04 02:58:00
It was our last morning in Toronto. Since we enjoyed Eggspectations so much, we decided to grab breakfast there one last time before we left Toronto. This time we were seated further back in the restaurant. This gave me an opportunity to take some pictures of the restaurant's interior. It was a a weekday late morning and the restaurant was quite empty at that time. Here's what we had for breakfast:Chicken BenedictThis is one of their signature eggs benedict dishes. It's two eggs poached, topped with grilled chicken, gruyère cheese and hollandaise sauce.Western omeletteThis is regular western omelette with ham, onion, green pepper, red pepper, etc.Side of corned beefBasket of toastsMost of their locations are in Canada (Quebec, Montreal, Ontario), but their also have a few locations in India and the United States. They actually have two locations in Maryland and one in Virginia.Link: Previous visit to Eggspectations
Del?s Archery Adventures - Crossbow Refurb (Part 1)

I made this crossbow about 25 years ago, and it's been hanging in my garage ever since. There are a couple of details which I wanted to improve, and I'd noticed that the binding holding the D-ring on the front was frayed. As you can see from the picture below, the binding failed c
Adventures in Toronto: Poutine at Harvey's
2009-06-02 21:08:00
We have been walking around Toronto doing touristy things, like visiting the CN Tower, and we were hungry. We were craving for a snack that would fuel us up until dinner time. We came across a Harvey's fast food restaurant. I remember seeing a bunch of them across the city. Apparently, they are like the second largest Canadian food chain, after Tim Horton's. My buddy suggested to go stop by and grab some poutine. Poutine? What's that?Poutine: french fries topped with fresh cheese curds and hot gravyThe french fries are regular sized fries. The cheese curd is at about room temperature. The chunks of cheese are placed top of the warm fries. The gravy is super hot and is poured over the cheese curds and french fries. The gravy will start to melt some of the cheese, so eat it immediately before everything turns too soggy. It is similar to cheese fries, except it's cheese curds instead of melted cheddar cheese. However, it's probably one of the least healthy things to eat.It was my ...
Adventures in Toronto: Eggspectations
2009-05-30 15:43:00
We thought Sunset Grill was pretty neat, but just had to check out the other breakfast restaurant the lady at the hotel suggested. Eggspectations was located on 220 Yonge St. This place had really nice decor. It's definitely on the fancier scale of diners. The restaurant was dimly lit and had a nice atmosphere. I thought it was kind of cute that their door knobs were shaped like eggs. This is the cover of their menu. I really like their logo. It's adorable!Their menu was quite impressive. They had the regular items, like eggs, meat, bagels, etc. and they had pages of their signature dishes, with fun names often starting with the prefix "Egg-". The restaurant also had a bar. Sweet! They listed some of their special alcoholic coffee beverages. We thought it would be quite nice to enjoy a White Russian (or something similar) along with our breakfast. We ordered two of the Eggspectation signature dishes. Here's what we had for breakfast:EggstremeSmoked salmon, grilled tomatoes and two...
Adventures in Toronto: Sunset Grill
2009-05-29 16:49:00
We were craving for some good breakfast foods, like eggs, ham, toasts, omelettes, and that good stuff. We went to the hotel information desk and asked for some recommendations for local diner places. The lady at the desk picked up an area map and drew some circles. She gave the names of two diner/breakfast restaurants. She referred to Sunset Grill as a regular casual diner and the Eggspectations as a more upscale diner. They were both about two blocks away. We thanked her for her help and walked away staring at the map, trying to decide which of the two places to check out.We decided to hit up Sunset Grill located on 1 Richmond St. West (at Yonge and Richmond). We were a little intimidated by the idea of going to an upscale diner for breakfast. We were simply craving breakfast foods, but nothing too fancy, and so, a regular diner would hit the spot. After we were seated, we quickly looked through the menu and placed our orders. I decided to go for their fluffy pancakes and a side of ...
Adventures in Toronto: Sushi Island
2009-05-24 14:23:00
One late evening, we ventured over to the Little Italy area of Toronto. We were in the mood for sushi and was looking for Sushi Island, located at 571 College St. It was pretty late in the evening and they had stopped offering their All you can eat special (which starts from about $14). Therefore, we were only able to order from their regular menu. Here are some highlights.I think this was a pity salad. This is probably the tiniest salad I've ever seen.Sushi boat platter with 36 piecesDowntown roll (Eel, tobiko, cucumber, and cream cheese)Brown rice sushi (Brown rice with seaweed bits and black sesame seeds)Sushi Island was a pretty good place. The sushi was alright. They were probably close to closing their kitchen when we arrived. That explains the pity salads they offered us, since we were not expecting complimentary salads with our sushi plates. Brown rice sushi is always a neat thing to try. The atmosphere was kind of nice as well. They had these folding panel doors, which gav...
Adventures in Toronto: Johnny Banana
2009-05-24 00:12:00
This cutesy logo caught my attention as we passed by. I'm a big fan of monkeys, and anything with a monkey almost instantly catches my attention. Johnny Banana is a small Mexican food place located at 181 Bathurst St near Queen St West. Even though it's a small restaurant, the simple, clean and bright interiors give the place a fun and hip look.Their menu is relatively small. It's like a fast food place serving burritos, quesadillas, tacos, nachos, and etc. They also serve beer. When you place your order, you work with the server while he assembles your burrito to your liking. I ordered a small chicken burrito with mole sauce, plus guacamole. This picture does the burrito no justice.Great burrito! Fresh ingredients. My burrito was a bit runny from too much mole sauce, but other than that it was a delectable burrito. The price was good too. My small, but appetizing and filling, burrito was about $5.75 CAD.
Adventures in Toronto: Pat's Homestyle Jamaican Restaurant
2009-05-22 15:12:00
While roaming around the streets of Toronto at the late hours, we came across a small hole in the wall restaurant located at 558 Queen St. West. Pat's Homestyle Jamaican Restaurant is this tiny but very friendly and casual looking restaurant. It can probably hold 6 people with their limited seating against the window and the wall. It is a great place for takeout. Their menu was small and simple, and included oxtails, jerked chicken, stew chicken, and other popular Jamaican/Carribean dishes. The best parts about tiny individually owned restaurants is the casual environment and the crazy delicious dishes. Also, the owner, Pat, is right there serving you his awesome dishes and making friendly chatter with his guests.(The night time picture didn't turn out too well, so I took this picture in the day time on the following day.)It was about 10:30 or 11pm and our eyes glittered when we saw noticed that they were still opened and serving dinner. They offered their dishes in small and larg...
Adventures in Toronto: Tim Hortons
2009-05-21 16:31:00
Coffee and donuts! That's a great combination. Coffee and donuts for a quick breakfast or a snack. It's probably not the most healthy thing to be eating all the time, but I do love to treat myself to some donuts once in a while. French crullers, old fashion and chocolate donuts are my favorites. I also like ones with sprinkles. I usually try to avoid the ones with too much frosting, although pink frosted (Homer Simpson) donuts are quite awesome. I used to love the Boston Creme, but now I find the creme filling to be too sweet and heavy for me.In Toronto, I met Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons is this coffee/donuts fast food restaurant. I think of it as the Dunkin Donuts of Toronto, although Tim Hortons do have locations in Upstate NY and various other locations in the US. You can even download a list of US and Canada store locations from here and upload it to your GPS. Dunkin Donuts also have locations in Canada, but not in Toronto I believe. There's almost like one Tim Hortons on every b...
Adventures in Toronto: Dim Sum at Bright Pearl Restaurant
2009-05-20 18:20:00
On our first day in Toronto, we ventured to Chinatown for lunch. We had a craving for some authentic dim sum. The internet suggested the Bright Pearl Restaurant which is located at 346-348 Spadina Ave. They received many good reviews online and seems like the place to go for dim sum. They offered dim sum all day. They even have a Dim sum Happy Hour on weekdays from 9-11:30 am and 1:30-4 pm, where they only charged $1.88 CAD for small, medium, or large plates. We arrived around 1pm, but were a bit too hungry and excited to wait for happy hour. I think regular priced plates where about $3-$5-ish CAD, depending on the size. We only sat down for maybe 3 minutes and we ordered all this. These dishes kept us occupied for a while, until the clock struck 1:30pm and then it's all happy hour price. Here's a few of the classic dishes to order in Dim Sum, other than the usual hargow-suimai (shrimp dumplings) pairing.Tofu skin rolls with chickenSteamed roast pork buns (char siu bao)Pork in black ...

Del?s Archery Adventures ? The Asiatic Recurve Bow
2009-04-14 07:00:00

It?s sad that travel by train has nearly died in America.  It?s a great way to travel, a way to see the country around you as you pass on by to your destination.  Trains are delightfully claustrophobic and you form camaraderie with those stuck on those rails with you.  If the trains could talk, imagine ...

Book Review: That Went Well ? Adventures In Caring For My Sister by Terrel

One of my favorite gripes about books in general is that for one to be successful it is important to hook the reader in the first 50 pages, if you don’t you are lost, the reader will move on to another book. Terrel Harris Dougan has taken this principal to new highs, she has the ...

The Adventures Of Songha is the story of a rare Savannah cat, told from the viewpoint of Songha, who is half African Serval leopard and half domestic cat.
