New music Tuesday: Aesop Rock and Collective Soul
2007-08-29 23:25:00 Aesop Rock, definitely one of the most amazing artists in the Alt-Hip Hop world right now is back with new album "None Shall Pass". The title track has damn good lyrics, and I really have no idea how this guy is able to put words together the way he does. The distant, trip-hop-like beat also really adds a lot to the song. The best new song of the week:By the way, "Float" is an amazing album, and you need to buy it right now.Also in hip hop, Nelly's new single "Wadsyaname" was released yesterday. It's not bad. I won't spend too much space on it since you've probably already heard it on the radio by now:Finally, Collective Soul's new album "Afterwords" is now available. I couldn't find anything from the album on iMeem or Odeo, but here's the iTunes link to check out what the album sounds like. It's pretty good, and isn't nearly as pop-sounding as its first single "Hollywood" made it seem. Next week: Hard-Fi and Calvin Harris.

2007-08-27 19:03:00 Aesop Rock: None Shall PassNone Shall Pass is Aesop Rock's fifth full length album and his first release since 2005's Fast Cars, Danger, Fire, and Knives EP.Aesop has long been on the forefront of underground hip hop, since the release of 2001's Labor Days.The album features production from El-P, Blockhead, Rob Sonic, and Aesop Rock himself. The production however, is a slick mix of hip hop beats and rock guitars. Like most Aesop Rock albums, the production is what distinguishes it.His flow seems never changing, which isn't a bad thing. After all that is what made him popular, but it can get old. The album's most promising tracks are one's that feature other artists such as Cage, El-P, Rob Sonic, or the Mountain Goats. Yes, the Mountain Goats make an appearance.In the end, it's hard for me not to call this release mediocre.
