It was a pretty cool experience bringing my husband Dominic to this year’s Affiliate Summit East.  Knowing my husband the way I do, I’m not surprised that he actually brought a lot of applicable knowledge back from his experiences in sessions at the show. Dominic went to Affiliate Summit with a newbie’s eyes - as a student about to finish his degree in project management, he could chose from a number of different industries to work within.  He wanted to learn more about the details of what it is that I do and assist his decision of whether or not he was interested in possibly applying his project management skills into some kind of marketing application. During Affiliate Summit I visited both the Meet Market and the exposition hall to see the booths.  I was impressed at how good some of the booths and tables were, and also at how bad some were.  If I could recognize they were bad as a first time attendee, they must have stood out to veterans.  Here are some general comments based upon my experiences. Have a banner behind the table, giving your name and hopefully an idea of what you are (network, merchant, etc.) Have a give away: this is something that will make people remember you later.  It is even better if it ties in with your company name, slogan, or something of that nature.  It never hurts to be unique. Have people at the booth (I would have assumed that was obvious). Be friendly (again, obvious). Don’t have several people working the crowd and handing out stuff (I got asked if I wanted Perfect English at least 10 times) and no one at the table. If you have a giveaway or are doing a contest...

Guest Post by Dominic Fawver. I see that Trisha has already given a really good outline of the topics covered by Peter, so I will just briefly mention a few things that I got out of it. This was one of the most entertaining, insightful, and inspirational speeches given at the Summit.  I really enjoyed how Peter was able to engage the entire audience by using current examples mixed in with examples from his own experience.  One of his key points was that you can not make something go viral; you can make something good, and if people like it, it will go viral.  This keynote (along with all that I learned at Affiliate Summit) has given me the inspiration to continue on with a couple of projects I had been thinking of for a while. Richard, Jon, & Hillel just came back from an amazing trip mostly in Vegas, San Francisco, & NY. Overall the trip was a big success for the company. They had meetings with VC's, Angels, & Clients as well as a booth at the Affiliate Summit West show at the Rio in Las Vegas. The look and feel of the booth was perfect. Tuesday morning I woke up had breakfast and networked with a couple people. I then joined Roger and Joe Tech at the blog war room section and went to an FAQs seminar. It wasn’t really a seminar more like a forum, you sit with an expert on a particular topic and you just bombard them with questions. I did not see anything I wanted to go too besides a PPC or affiliate marketing FAQs table. Then I noticed John Hasson at a table and I was kind of in shocked, prior to this event I have been hanging out with an expert and exchanging ideas. I was really proud to have met up with John. I know there was a lot of blog out there already speaking about Jason Calacanis Keynote speech but I want to put my version out on this issue as well. I will be talking about 4 sessions I went to and how it was beneficial and how it was ehh. The 4 sessions I visited were on split days and proves to be worthwhile and 1 was just jibber jabber. But first I would like to talk about the first session I went too which was Jason Calacanis speech. I never heard of Jason but I have heard of Mahalo and have used it. But Jason posted a reaction about his speech on his blog. I myself do understand what he is talking about BUT to an extent. I just got back from my plane flight and had a quick snack, I just then uploaded all the photos to my flickr account. Which means all the scandalous pictures are up!! Syke, I actually filtered some of them out. I took pictures of the Vegas strip as well and I of the parties that I have been too. I took pictures of everything that I can. PartnerCentric has been attending Affiliate Summit for years now, and we're always amazed by how the conference seems to grow (in terms of attendees, vendors and relevance) with each passing event. Summit West in Vegas, which concludes today, is no exception. Our company was well-represented by the six people we sent to the show. What we've learned about Affiliate Summit is that the focus isn't on making that big deal or even recruiting tons of affiliates. The focus is on coming together as an industry, learning about the latest challenges and opportunities that face us all and taking inspiration from one another. We certainly enjoy promoting our affiliate programs to the affiliates who attend the show, as always. There's always a great response when affiliates hear what our merchants and their affiliate programs have to offer. The sessions and speeches are equally worthwhile. Today was another great day, right now I am really tired and posting this blog post and I will be taking a nap before I go and grab some food. So far the day has been great again I was busy with interviews from other affiliate networks, seeing if I would qualify to their networks - not a problem with me. This morning I went to breakfast with Jason and went to this morning keynote with Jason Calacanis. This is a little controversial because I can agree to an extent with Jason but disagree with him on another extend. Sidenote: I apologize, I won’t be uploading any of my pictures to my blog until I return, I do not have a card reader on my mac. Blah. Also please note my writing, apologize for any mistakes. I flew in Saturday morning, eastern time and landed mid day western time. My flight was very long, 5 hours. Once the flight was done I checked into my hotel and finally got settled. The only thing that I forgot to bring with me was my camera. Once I rested up in my room I decided to go out and buy another camera, a Samsung L830. When I arrived in Vegas I had the pleasure of meeting super affiliate Zac Johnson and his girl friend. We chit chatted for a while and had the opportunity to ride with him towards the Rio Hotel. Affiliate Summit 2008 Las Vegas is next week! Argh! I didn’t even get a damn haircut. What will I be doing to get ready and prepare for Affiliate Summit West? I am trying to network with some people before Affiliate Summit West 2008! I have been visiting the networking section of Affiliate Summit West website, trying to talk to a couple people before the summit begins. The only problem I have is there is really no interaction. I send notes, no response - I think I must have put up an ugly picture of myself. Well again I will be there a day early, I may be attending a Saturday dinner and might bump into Paul from Uber Affiliate and Andrew Wee. This is good I get to talk to great affiliate marketers and entrepreneurs. I also asked about the pricing of the dinner, 85$ DAMN - for an affiliate marketer that is really nothing I guess.
