Obama Becomes the First African American Presidential Nominee
2008-06-04 05:05:00 Tuesday night, Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination for president to become the first African American presidential nominee from a major party. Throughout the day Obama received the endorsements of enough unpledged superdelegates and enough pledged delegates from South Dakota and Montana, to reach the 2,118 delegates he needed. Senator Clinton could only watch as superdelegates came forward during the day for Obama uniting behind the likely nominee. Obama chose the city that will host the Republican National Convention this summer as the home of his victory speech on Tuesday. Obama spoke before a ruckus crowd of diverse people inside of a packed arena of more than 17,000 in St. Paul, Minnesota. ?You chose to listen not to your doubts or your fears, but to your greatest hopes and highest aspirations. Tonight, we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another ? a journey that will bring a new and better day to America. Because ...
Romeo Must Die (2000)
2008-06-01 05:45:00 If Shakespeare’s most enduring tragi-romance Romeo & Juliet were ever realised as martial arts slug-a-thon, and shot with the brio of an MTV commercial, the result surely would be more entertaining than Andrzej Bartkowiak’s directorial debut Romeo Must Die. A ludicrous East-meets-West love story set to an ear-splitting mish mash of rap and R&B, the film ...
How To Find The Best African American Reborn Dolls
2008-05-29 07:00:00 Not everyone understands reborning, to the uninitiated it’s a world of strange obsession, to the folks that do understand, it provides endless hours of irreplaceable pleasure. That pleasure is derived from beauty, artistry, and uniqueness of each doll, because just like human babies, reborn dolls come in every conceivable shape size and color - nowadays ...

Woman versus African-American
2008-04-06 18:58:00 By VictorM:Is the USA ready for either a woman or an African-American to be president? I am of two minds about the question itself. On one hand it's sad that the question is even asked, but given where we have been, it is good that question is being asked seriously because for the first time ever we have a candidate from each group with a realistic shot of winning (even if Hillary's chances are now fading). So, how do Americans feel about this race and gender issue?A poll by CNN and Essence magazine released Thursday found that Americans believe the country is more ready to elect an African-American president than a woman...The good news is that the vast majority of voters think the country is ready for either a woman or an African-American. But I was sad to see lower support for a woman -- though after this campaign, I wasn't surprised. I think it's clear that Hillary Clinton has suffered more sexist abuse than Barack Obama has experienced overt racism this year: men yelli...

Clinton Surrogates Cross the Line Again
2008-03-11 04:26:00 Geraldine Ferraro suggests Obama would not be where he is now if he was not African American.Geraldine Ferraro is a member of Hillary Clinton?s finance committee and a top Clinton fundraiser. I was not surprised to read on the Daily Kos about yet another top Clinton surrogate saying something racist and ignorant about Barack Obama. ?If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept,? Ferraro said. Ferraro, a former Democratic vice presidential candidate has claimed that if Barack Obama were white, he would not be winning this election. I think Barack Obama would like to argue how lucky he is to be African American when he is haling a cab or running for president in a state where the population is more than 90 percent white. Last Saturday, Wyoming overwhelmingly chose Barack Obama as their...

Born in Montgomery Alabama, he says when he was 15-years-old he wanted to be a bodybuilder.Because of his perseverance, he became the first african american to win the Mr. America title. "In 1970 I won the Mr. America, being the first African American to do so and I remember my coach Bill Pearl, to show you how things were then we discussed if I should win, whether or not I should kiss the trophy girl who was usually white, so that's the way things were then". Dickerson then set his sites on winning the IFBB Mr. Olympia title. His biggest competition was a familiar face, the current governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger "We went toe to toe in Australia back in 1980 and he won the title and I was a controversial second, because people felt I should have won, but he had the big name and he had done the Conan mov...

Life Without Black People
2008-02-11 00:10:00 A very humorous and revealing story is told about a group of white people who were fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wished themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there is an America without black people. At first these white people breathed a sigh of relief. "At last", they said, "no more crime, drugs, violence and welfare."All of the blacks have gone! Then suddenly, reality set in. The "NEW AMERICA " is not America at all - only a barren land.1. There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system.2. There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black man, invented the elevator, and without it, one finds great difficulty reaching higher floors.3. There are few if any cars because Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the automatic gearshift, Joseph Gambol, also black, invented the Super Charge System for Internal Combustion ...
My Favorite African American Blogs and More
2008-02-10 06:45:00 Rose Jackson-BeaversPeople often ask me what is the purpose of a blog. I simply respond that it is a web journal, a place where you can write about anything including your feelings regarding dating, politics or other popular topics. Expressing your innermost feelings on a blog is a unique way to relieve stress. Blogs can also be used as a marketing tool to advertise products you may be selling.Who are bloggers? These are the people who author the blogs. Bloggers belong to communities and they search cyberspace to meet and read other bloggers? blogs. Some blogs are quite interesting. I read blogs that parents write about their children, politics, and celebrities. It seems that everybody is blogging about something. What?s even more fascinating is the fact that blogging can be interactive, meaning people can respond to what you write. Or you can just write and remove people?s ability to make comments.I enjoy blogging and have met some great friends whom I network with on a regular bas...

Sean John Runway Features African American Models
2008-02-09 23:59:00 Sean "Diddy" Combs made history at Fashion Week with his Sean John collection coming down the runway only on African American models. Kevin Federline, Ellen Pompeo, Helena Christiansen, Fabulous, Q-Tip, and even fellow designer Roberto Cavalli came to see the designs. Another interesting aspect of the night -- Diddy brought Tyson Beckford down the runway at the end of the show. The two men have been feuding over a $5 million breech of contract lawsuit Tyson filed on both of Diddy's companies, Sean John and Bad Boy Records. I guess that has blown over, and Tyson is once again representing the Sean John line on the runway -- which hopefully means we'll be seeing Tyson's pretty face in new Sean John ads soon. Photos: Getty Images/WENN 21 more photos from the Sean Jean show and backstage featuring Tyson Beckford, Kevin Federline, Wilmer Valderrama, Fabulous, Q-Tip, Helena Christensen, Ellen Pompeo, Chris Ivery, Sean Combs, Janice Combs and Roberto Cavalli are after the jump.

Creating the African-American Superman
2008-02-03 22:16:00 A History of Der Huxtable's ReignBill Cosby absorbed quite a bit of flak for criticizing the media creation of "black culture" for endorsing gangsta behavior, obscenity, laziness and selfishness. Far smarter than the average person, Cosby represents the prototype of a new African-American: the intelligent and mobile critical thinker.Suppose for a moment that Bill Cosby used his millions to buy up a cable network and create a new kind of black propaganda. "We will create the African-American Superman," Cosby says, "who will replace this tedious gangsta rap baggy-pants culture with something better."Overwhelmingly, he is elected. His first move is to seize all black press establishments and entertainment outlets. "Only the best media for our youth," he says to wild cheers. "We're going to keep the poisonous usurpers out." Next he takes over the educational system, designing a uniform and a challenging curriculum for black schools.Cosby socializes most industries among the African-Am...
The Miseducation of the Negro Revisited
2008-02-03 04:54:00 Its amazing how a book written in 1933 about the destruction of Black Americans is still freshly applicable today. Amazing, and embarrasing. Many say that we as Black Americans are getting better, but the problems that plagued us almost 100 years ago persist today. The Miseducation of the Negro, written by Dr. Carter Woodson, described how the plight of our people at the time was the result of a process of miseducation imposed upon us by our oppressors (see: white people). For instance "At a Negro summer school two years ago, a white instructor gave a course on the Negro, using for his text a work that teaches whites are superior to blacks", and "In medical schools Negroes were likewise convinced of their inferiority in being reminded of their role as germ carriers". He believed this miseducation led to our poor state of affairs. Today, there are a few key points that jumped out at me as being particularly applicable. 1933: "We have long had the belief that the Neg...

We have big fine women and small little fine women and all the sizes in between. We got fabulous down pact and all sizes are welcome to enter. In hollyweird, if you ate this morning you cannot call yourself sexy, basically. On that note i have to say that Bernie Mac Show wife "Kellita Smith" is just all kind of ghetto sexy. They don't make that up there in hollyweird, thats old school sexy right there. I sometimes watch the Shows i have already seen just to catch a glimpse of her leaving a room, mommi got back.
