My sincere condolences to her husband and her family.A post I was reading the other week prompted me to take out my grandmother's china and silverware out of their cases and bring them to life for a little while. The time of a dessert, a picture or a post. The time of a memory I might give my mother about a certain time in her past. I know I'll never be as creative as Pia in styling and setting the mood for the pieces I inherited but the moment was right to polish those spoons and dust off those cups.I started to take pictures of the spoons on their own and although pretty, something was missing. I made some tea and hoped that the smell and relaxing atmosphere would inspire me a little. It was allright...not bad, there was still that little "je ne sais quoi" missing. They also turned in 201 business petitions, that is petitions signed by business owners and managers.Kudos to the Friends of the Monument and to Chairman Ignacio V. Cabrera for all their months of hard work. Over 60 volunteer signature gatherers helped collect the (now) 5600+ signatures over 4 months. Kudos also to the volunteers from Marianas High School and Saipan Southern High School who volunteered their time to put all the names into a database. I debated heavily about the merits of ordering a Diet Coke via room service v. getting it from the minibar. You'll be glad to know I chose room service, but covered up my laziness by ordering a filet mignon to go with it. And a baked potato and spinach. And creme brulee.
