Agility and Risk Compensation: Exploring the Connection
2008-06-09 14:17:00
bloginfosec.com – In my previous and inaugural column, I introduced the concept of a tradeoff between information security and agility, where agility was defined as ?the capability to change with managed cost and speed.? Information security doesn?t necessarily have to be at odds with agility, but security professionals would be wise to consider the potential impact of ... read more
Levi in Obedience
2008-06-06 23:38:00
Levi is such a good boy! He didn’t weave again today doing agility… which means I’m going to pull him and work weaves for a while. I won’t trial him again in agility probably until September, or maybe even later than that. We’ll have to see. But in Obedience he did good! He got 2nd ...
Agility Practice Tonight
2008-06-05 05:57:00
I took Levi and Chase out in the drizzle tonight and we had a great time. There was a Steeplechase course set up at a friend’s yard and we went and tried it out! It wasn’t a very hard one, I will admit… but it was fun. Chase did a great job. That ...
I don't think my kittie bros would put up with this Rat Agility thing!
2008-06-02 14:00:00
It's rat agility, and it's real! They have their own equipment, rules, competitions, and more. Here's some info from their website:Rat Agility is much like dog or cat agility only the equipment is rat sized. Fancy or Pet Rats are very affectionate and intelligent animals. They are as far removed from their wild cousins as a wolf is from a dog. Rats can be taught tasks, tricks and behaviors. More and more people are keeping rats as pets so Rat Agility just makes sense. And, (smiling as I write) the equipment for rats is easier to transport and is easier to build and store then the equipment for dogs and cats.I have found, over and over, with many different ratties I have trained to do Rat Agility, that the animals love the equipment, the tasks and the fuss made over them for doing it as well as any treats they may receive....but mostly they love spending time and interacting with their trainer.

2008-05-26 05:17:00
Ugh… doing AKC this weekend, AKC agility with my goofy collie boy Levi. And I entered Chase today and tomorrow. Chase did really well. His FAST run was beautiful, except that he fell off the dog walk. I think he was going to fast. But also, many of the dogs fell off, so something was ...

Agility practice today!
2008-05-22 21:46:00
Gracie and I had agility practice this morning. Bright and early, a very nice weather day to run agility.Mum started with Gracie again, doggone it! Why does she do this to me, I can't stand when Gracie gets to go first. And I make sure everyone knows it. You can hear me barking and whining all the way over to the pig farm a mile away from our practice field. (Oh, and dog did those pigs smell good today, whew!)Gracie did really well, she's even getting some distance from Mum on jumps. She made all her contacts today (Mum led out so it would help her some). She was a bit unfocused at times, especially coming out of tunnels. So Mum needs to get her attention more there. But then she went to the weaves and wouldn't do them - just like she wouldn't do them in our back yard the other day. Mum and Gracie tried a few more times and our trainer couldn't believe Gracie was missing her weaves either and thought that maybe she was hurting some and that's why she didn't want to weave. So M...

What to Wear to Agility
2008-04-28 21:26:00
Saturday to agility I wore every darn piece of clothing I’d brought which, apparently, was not enough. T-Shirt, Sweatshirt, and two coats. But not my winter coat, just a rain coat. Plus my baseball cap. And as I was sitting trying to keep warm, I had a towel over me too that I had brought to cover the dogs’ crates so they wouldn’t see so much and keep them from barking. Anyway… I love to wear comfortable clothes when I do agility. usually I just wear jeans, but they can be a bit uncomfortable. So maybe I should wear some dickies scrubs instead! Scrubs are comfortable and they can be so pretty now, lol. I wonder if they have any with dog patterns, I’ll go and check it out. They also have cherokee medical scrubs. Some of the scrubs are quite pretty and colorful, and short sleeved, and loose fitting so would be every so comfortable! So these cherokee medical scrubs would be nice to wear, too… seriously, I think I’m going to check them out...
The Worst Agility Day Ever
2008-04-27 14:37:00

This weekend I have entered Chase into a USDAA agility trial. I have taken him before… just once, if I remember correctly, and he does have one Snooker leg and one, I think, Standard leg. I have to look it up on the USDAA site again. Should be fun. It’s outdoors, and so it might ...
Chase looking for the Squirrel
2008-04-18 20:58:00
And here is Chase looking for the same Squirrel Levi looked for earlier. He was a mad dog about the Squirrels. He would hunch over at the door, ready to run outside, and then he’d head right for the tree. The dork. And he was quite successful in chasing them away! Oh, and at ...

Colorado was a lot of fun. I love going to new cities and learning about them, the layout, where I’m staying, etc. I like getting out of Utah, even though Utah really is a beautiful state. We stayed with a friend, and she had squirrels in her back yard. Levi and Chase, both, really ...
Feline Agility -- What is it?
2008-04-15 08:47:00
Cat Agility involves leading or getting your cat through an obstacle course. The course consists of Hurdles, Hoops, Weave Pools, and Stairs. Cats enter the ring and are given some time to get use to the ring.Once a cat gets use to the ring the cat is lead through the course by it's handler ( the handler uses a toy- such a s lure toy). The handler should not touch the cat but can entice or encourage the cat around the course. The cat is timed during it's run through the course. Timing starts when the cat touches first obstacle and ends when last obstacle is completed. The score is not only based on time but, number of obstacles completed, if the cat completes all obstacles, bonus points are given for seconds under the maximum allowed time of 4 minutes 30 seconds.Cat Agility events are fun for the whole family. The cats are quite entertaining. Many of the cats will have no problem getting through the course, while others think the object is to put their handler through the ...

Agility and Innovation: The Niche Market?s Advantage
2008-04-08 07:00:00
In the traditional concept of economies of scale, larger companies squeezed out their competitors by offering convenience and better values. The Sport Of Agility For Dogs
2008-04-08 07:00:00
Originally based, loosely, on the equestrian jumps, agility obstacle courses for dogs are meant to provide the dogs with an outlet for their athletic skill and a place to showcase their agile abilities. The handlers are allowed to use hand signals but the dogs must work ‘off-leash’ when running the agility courses. The handler may ...

AKC National Agility Championships - Day 3!
2008-03-30 20:45:00
We're a little slow going today - lazy day. We went to check on the progress on the AKC website and they've already completed the Hybrid class! Seems our friends Ruth and Zina didn't get in a clean run this morning, but they sure did really well for their first time at Nationals. We saw that a couple of nice folks we met from Tennessee at the Corydon trial are set for the finals this afternoon - Joel and Marvel, and Jean and Keesha, good for them! Also big congrats to Jenn and Guess. It will be a really nice 16" final! Looking forward to that.It looks like two handlers will have two dogs each in the finals - wonder how common that is? Should be really competitive in all the heights! Good luck to everyone. If you want to see the results for the Hybrid - which is round 3, click here. And you can watch for more results coming tonight for the Challenger and Final Rounds.Check out this link for some videos from the event - they seem to be pouring in...The creators of one of the blogs I ...
