GIS Maps and Atlases on Agriculture in Myanmar
2009-10-17 08:33:00 The digital agricultural atlas of the Union of Myanmar is a collection of GIS-derived maps, tabular data and related documents depicting political, physical and agricultural resources in Myanmar. Data are integrated in a warehouse framework, which is the core component of FAO's Dynamic Atlas technology. Dynamic Maps is the free GIS software that displays data warehouses. The atlas contains general layers from international data providers and agricultural-related layers generated from 2001-2002 statistics collected at state/division, district and township level. Tabular information and maps are linked to build a geographical information system for agricultural resource managers. The atlas derives from studies carried out by the FAO Investment Centre under the framework of the project "Myanmar Agriculture Sector Review: Analysis and Investment Strategy Formulation" (see below).Source: GIS DevelopmentMyanmar Agriculture ??? ????????? Powershares Agriculture (DBA): Invest in crop circles!
2009-06-29 06:00:00 "There are many reasons to like PowerShares DB Agriculture (NYSE: DBA), and ETF that tracks agricultural commodity prices," says fund expert Doug Fabian. In The ETF Trader, he explains, "We like the technical picture. In addition, we believe commodities are a great hedge against inflation." Here's his assessment."I’m a pretty skeptical guy; one of the more wild claims of the past decade or so was that so-called 'alien' crop circles -- those bizarre patterns carved into wheat, corn and other fields around the globe."Well, I say forget about the aliens, but don’t forget about the patterns taking shape in the world’s key agricultural crops."The patterns being cut into price charts of crops like corn, soybeans, sugar and wheat all have given us one compelling message, and that message is it’s time to buy."That’s why I now am recommending that you purchase the PowerShares DB Agriculture (NYSE: DBA). Monsoon Delayed Farmers in Trouble
2009-06-26 05:45:00 Monsoon Delayed monsoon has increased the problems of the farmers of India especially of north-Indian farmers but on the other hand state and the centre governments are reluctant to declare the situation officially a ?draught?. Metrological department had predicted that this year the monsoon will be late by 15 days as compared to the normal monsoon. It has also been predicted that this year whole of the India will witness below than normal rainfall during the rainy season. Thus delayed monsoon has created the danger of another draught and the related predictions have created horrors of bad effect on the rural economy that is totally based on the conditions of season. Minister Prithavirak Chauhan had told the reporters a few days ago that during the months of June, July and September south-west monsoon will be below normal. For whole of the country the average rainfall will be around 93 per cent which is 3 per cent less as compared to the April month?s prediction about the rainy se...

Growth in agriculture
2009-05-29 13:00:00 "Our core resource positions -- including agriculture -- have had a great month; my indicators suggests these positions are going much higher," says Larry Edeslon in Real Wealth."We continue to see bullish sentiment building up in the agriculture sector. "Many key commodities — from corn and soybeans to wheat and cotton — are being pressured higher from bad weather conditions and shrinking stockpiles."Indeed, the bullish news keeps coming in:U.S. farmers are expected to harvest 18% less winter wheat (a two-year low) this year after prices plunged from a record high in February. Bad weather has also damaged crops.Corn prices, the biggest U.S. crop, recently rose to a four-month high as wet weather limited planting, which will likely reduce crop yields. Sugar prices are rising based on speculation that the global production shortfall will reach a 10-year high."In my view, the writing is on the wall: Agricultural commodities are ...

Powershares Agriculture (DBF): Power play on grains
2008-12-03 06:00:00 "It’s time for commodities to start rallying again – especially those agriculture sectors that are increasingly coming under pressure amid declining supplies," says commodity expert Eric Roseman (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2602). The Development of Agriculture in Africa
2008-10-09 07:46:00 Updated October 8:Hang out long enough on White nationalist fora, and after a while you will be amazed at how many White racists actually believe that Black Africans were stone age people who had no metalworking, no agriculture and no civilization of any sort by the time the Europeans contacted them. It's true that Africa is not known for its incredible cultural achievements. But it wasn't exactly a complete backwater either. The White nationalist line that Africans were a Paleolithic people with only stone implements and no agriculture is surprisingly widespread. Too bad that it is horribly wrong.First of all, agriculture comes to the Sahel as early as 9000 BC. It comes to West Africa around the same time. Later it goes to Southern and Eastern Africa. The "niggers* are too stupid to grow food" line, appalling in its stupidity, continues to retain a lot of currency. Screw that. Africans have been growing food for 1000's of years, Jesus Christ. The latest permutation has to do with...

Black Males and Testosterone: Evolution and Perspectives
2008-10-09 07:40:00 Development of agriculture in modern Blacks also seems to have led to high testosterone levels. Groups with the highest testosterone in the world today are primitive agriculturalists.Hunter-gathere-rs tend to have lower testosterone. This is because in hunter-gatherer society, women need men to survive. So they just grab one pretty quickly and get married. In primitive agricultural societies, women do not need men since they can farm on their own. So they can afford to be quite choosy. These societies have tended to develop in a polygynous way where a few high-ranking males monopolize most of the females and the rest of the guys get none. It's kind of like high school except it keeps going for your whole life.Sub-Saharan Blacks are highly polygynous ,and this resulted in intense competition for fewer women and selection for very robust male body types. SS Blacks are more robust than Whites on all variables. In Namibia, the polygynous Kavango have much higher testosterone than the muc...

It might be food." Here, he looks at Monsanto (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=mon) (NYSE: MON (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=mon)) and iShares Brazil ETF (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=ewz) (ASE: EWZ (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=ewz))."U.S. consumers spend roughly 15% of every dollar on food. The 2008 US Salmonella Outbreak
2008-08-02 04:32:00 Most of my American readers have heard of this outbreak. For those who want to read up on the details of it, this Wikipedia article covers the main points. The outbreak has now been located in a farm growing Serrano and Jalapeño peppers in Mexico, where it was found in water used to irrigate the field and in the field itself. In discussion on Mexico-hostile web forums, it was stated over and over that the reason for the outbreak was that Mexico allows raw sewage to run into the fields of its farms. I sort of doubt that that is true, but it sent me off on a quest to find out what Salmonella is and how Salmonellosis is transmitted.Non-typhoidal Salmonella is a bacterium that when transmitted to humans, can cause Salmonellosis. This disease often manifests as a gastrointestinal illness. The disease is most common in raw eggs and raw milk. It is killed by pasteurization and irradiation. You can also get it from handling reptiles, something I like to do. I especially like to catch snakes a...

That leads to higher prices in soybeans, corn, wheat, etc. Second, there are government mandates for pr...
