The airline, who have been a sponsor to the British team since 2007, have painted the new aircraft in the blue and white colours, and named the aircraft “Sir Frank Williams”. Nico Rosberg’s helmet colours were replicated for the nose of the aircraft. “It has been incredible to see the AT&T Williams livery on AirAsia’s plane,” said Rosberg, at the launch. “I’m delighted that the design of my helmet, which I have been racing with all my life, has been used to create a lasting tribute to the team’s partnership with Air Asia.”

Singapore-based carriers Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia revealed their fares and promotions for the air route last week, while Malaysia’s Air Asia announced its strategy on Thursday. “I believe this is a massive market. It’s the only route in Asia that’s had regression. Every other route has grown tremendously but the KL-Singapore (route) has shrunk in what is a booming travel market. Once we get the price elasticity right, I think it will be a huge route,” said Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of Air Asia. The carrier - an offshoot of Asia's biggest low cost airline Air Asia - hopes to fly to Australia for its inaugural flight from its Kuala Lumpur base in September. It expects to offer Australians standard fares 30 to 50 per cent cheaper than its competitors, to the Malaysian capital, and then a host of far flung places, including the UK, Middle East, India and China. Air Asia X's new chief executive Azran Osman-Rani is in Australia this week holding final talks with airports around the country.
