At Least One Lions Fan Wants Al Wilson
2008-02-14 18:05:00 Something called a Rob Machota wrote an email to the Detroit Free Press, which the Free Press seems to then turn into an internet article. At least that is what I take away from the following line - "Jon Machota is a freelance writer who shares his opinions with freep.com. To share your opinion, e-mail sportsletters@freepress.com." Anyway, in this intriguing plea to Lions' management, Machota explains why the Lions should dig deep to sign Wilson. I love Al Wilson. He was a great player for the Broncos. At 31, however, I have a hard time believing he can come back and be the force he was 4 or 5 years ago. The more I think about it, though, giving Wilson fat cash is exactly the type of move the Lions would make.... You know how I feel about "if's", and Machota's "case" is filled with them.....Breaking news, Teddy Lehman, Paris Lenon and Boss Bailey are not starting middle linebackers in the NFL. I know this comes as no surprise to many, but it needs to be ...

Giants? Tuck Was a Bronco For a Day
2008-02-07 19:48:00 Eleven months ago, Justin Tuck was picturing himself in an orange and blue jersey. In March of last year, the Giants were prepared to trade Tuck (along with a 4th round pick) to the Broncos in return for Al Wilson. The now-infamous trade was ultimately negated after Wilson failed his physical. I still remember at the ...

Al Wilson Cleared To Resume Career
2008-01-10 19:06:00 From ESPN.com -- Former Denver Broncos linebacker Al Wilson, who sat out the 2007 season because of neck problems, was cleared to play the 2008 season by Los Angeles back specialist Bob Watkins. The 30-year-old Wilson is a free agent and able to sign with any team that is interested. A five-time Pro Bowler, Wilson is considered an ideal middle linebacker in a 4-3 scheme because of his leadership and ability to line up teammates before plays. During the 2007 offseason, the Broncos traded Wilson to the New York Giants for a middle-round draft choice. The trade was voided when Wilson failed the team physical because of his neck problems. His rights reverted back to the Broncos, who eventually released him. Wilson's neck problems started in 2003 when he suffered some stingers. He went to Dr. Watkins, who advised him to rest until the neck was better. On Wednesday, Watkins, who is normally conservative in allowing players to return with neck problems, informed Wilson he could resum...

Al Wilson Was On His Way Out in 2004
2007-11-28 22:34:00 I haven’t always been this big of a “behind the scenes” Broncos fan. I knew all of the players, watched every game, etc., but I didn’t follow free agency or the draft with the same amount of fervor I do now. I say this is a disclaimer in case this is old news, but I ...

Rumor, Rumor On The Web.....Ben Hamilton, Al Wilson and more....
2007-09-28 05:59:00 I love me a good rumor. And like a juicy steak a good rumor can really satisfy, and these are pretty juicy. As first reported on the local TV Show Football Playbook, seen on FSN Rocky Mountain, then discussed HERE and HERE, it appears as thought the Broncos are preparing to place Ben Hamilton on Injured Reserve, ending his season. Hamilton suffered a concussion early in Training Camp and has yet to be able to return, still suffering from headaches and nausea. The other juicy tidbit, and stay with me here, was reported by ole' pal Bill Romanowski. According to Romo, he spoke with former Bronco John Mobley who himself had spoken with Al Wilson. Wilson, apparrently, is in great shape and ready to play football in 2007. This is here-say, twice removed, but you can't question the timing of Wilson's comments seeing how the Broncos are struggling, especially in the leadership department where Wilson excelled. More on Wilson in a second, but lookin...

Al Wilson Officially Released Today
2007-04-24 22:44:00 The Denver Post, and everyone else, is reporting the Broncos will officially release Al Wilson this afternoon, ending one of the strangest sagas in team history. While it is still unclear what exaclty is ailing Wilson it is clear that there are still issues with Wilson's neck and back resulting from an injury last season against the Seahawks. It is also unclear if Wilson will, in fact, ever play football again. MileHighReport.com wishes nothing but the best to Al Wilson and his family, and hope to see #56 take the field at least one more time, so he can leave the game on his terms! Thanks for the memories, Al!

2007-04-16 17:02:00 Broncos Release Linebacker Al WilsonBy PAT GRAHAMAP Sports WriterDENVER -- Broncos linebacker Al Wilson's heart tells him he can still play football. His neck is a different story. The Broncos released the five-time Pro Bowl player Friday because of a combination of injury and salary cap concerns. Wilson, who injured his neck against Seattle on Dec. 3, was scheduled to make $5.2 million in base salary this season.A Broncos spokesman declined comment and an e-mail to Denver general manager Ted Sundquist wasn't returned.Wilson, who was informed by the team Thursday night he'd be cut, had no bitter feelings toward the team."My time is up as a Bronco," the eight-year veteran said. "It's time to move forward and try something else. You have to do what's best for your organization, just like a Fortune 500 company. Sometimes you have to let good employees go."Wilson has been the defensive captain for the last six seasons. He led the team in tackles last season with 113.However, he was ...
BREAKING NEWS --- BRONCOS RELEASE AL WILSON
2007-04-13 23:28:00 It is being reported that the Broncos have released LB Al Wilson. Wilson plans to hold a news conference at his agent's office in Cherry Creek at 2 p.m. Friday. It can be seen live on cbs4denver.com. Wilson was the subject of attempted trades by the Broncos in recent weeks. One deal with the New York Giants fell apart after Wilson failed a physical. Al Wilson to the Giants?
2007-03-23 01:07:00 Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting rumors that Pro Bowl Linebacker Al Wilson may be traded from the Denver Broncos to the New York Giants. (http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/-story/10080863) This is one of the more interesting developments in the NFL offseason, as the Giants are in desperate need of 'backers after cutting starters LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons. New York does have a Pro Bowl Middle Linebacker in Antonio Pierce and one would have to move to the outside in the Giants' 4-3 defense. The Broncos are looking to move the younger and cheaper D.J. Williams inside, which will force them to play Nate Webster and look for a promising backup in the mid-to-late rounds of the NFL draft next month. It will probably take more than a second round pick to pry Wilson from Denver, my guess is a 2nd rounder and either a 6th or 7th rounder. Both Wilson and Pierce are the leaders of their respective defenses and it will be interesting to see how they get along.

Is Al Wilson On The Block??
2007-03-08 00:13:02 Could Wilson Get Traded?Where there's smoke, there's fire. I guess you can call that my motto, becuase for the past couple of weeks I've written it about 10 times. After the Broncos acquired Dre Bly from Detroit word leaked that Matt Millen was hot and heavy over having Al Wilson included in the deal. The Broncos refused, and message board's went crazy with speculation that the Broncos would even consider trading their defensive leader. At the time, I thought little of it, though I do believe any team that misses the playoffs should look at ALL possibilities to get better, that no one on the roster should feel safe. Now comes our buddy Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post who reports the Broncos actually dangled Wilson to the Redskins in a deal that would have, at it's core, netted the Broncos the #6 pick in the draft. That's two teams involving the same player in the past 5 days. Like I said, where there's smoke, there's fire. La Can...
