Is This The Year For Alex Gordon?
2008-03-26 16:19:00
I've ranked Alex Gordon 13th among third basemen, with a .267-18-71-71-16 projection in 522 ABs. It'd be worth $6. Gordon's being drafted in the 12th round, 11th among 3Bs. I don't have a big problem with this (though Kevin Kouzmanoff...
Alex Gordon: What Can We Expect In 2008
2008-01-25 12:38:00
What is Kansas City Royals 3B Alex Gordon worth in 2008? His performance last season did not come close to matching the pre-season speculation of how great he would be. No one expected a .247 AVG paired with a mere 60 RBIs and just 15 HRs. Overlooked though are the 14 bases he stole while qualifying at 1B and 3B for the 2008 fantasy baseball season. For those who focus a scarce stats at positions like 1B and C, those 14 SBs ranked first last season ahead of Carlos Guillen's 13 and Miguel Cairo's 10. No other 1B-eligible player stole double-digit bases. In 2006, Nick Johnson led all 2007 1B-eligibles with 10. One must go back to the 2005 season to find 1B-eligible players who stole more bases than Alex Gordon. Albert Pujols swiped 16 to lead the Cardinals that season. Derrek Lee swiped 15 and Darin Erstad had 10. Those double-digit SB totals help make Pujols and Lee top draftees in 2006 fantasy baseball drafts. The question is there any reason to believe 1. Gordon will not steal do...
Royals 3B Alex Gordon looks for smoother 2nd season (AP)
2008-01-23 23:23:00
Alex Gordon is getting less attention as he enters his second major league season, and that’s just how the Kansas City Royals’ low-key third baseman likes it. Expectations for Gordon were extremely high after he was drafted No. 2 overall out of Nebraska in 2005. Those expectations grew exponentially after he was selected minor league ...

Thoughts on Alex Gordon
2007-09-21 15:06:00
Some thoughts on his rookie year, and whether owners should be concerned. Is there anyone in the fantasy world who wasn't high on Alex Gordon coming into this year? Last year in my high stakes league I auctioned him for $5, and was able to trade him for Justin Morneau in the midseason as his speculative value was so high. That trade sure worked out for me. I was reviewing pre-season
Zack Greinke, Alex Gordon help Kansas City Royals beat Texas Rangers 8-1 (A
2007-09-04 05:16:00
Zack Greinke allowed five hits in five shutout innings for his first win as a starter since April, Ross Gload homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers 8-1 on Monday night. Featuring a fastball in the mid-to-high 90s, Greinke (6-5) struck out four without a walk in his 10th start of the ...
Ranking the Young Third Basemen: Part IV
2007-05-27 04:41:00
OK. Time for the finale of this feature. We'll now look at the long-term potential of these guys. Keep in mind, I haven't done extensive research into which types of minor leaguers tend to become good major leaguers, and these rankings are very rough. They represent the order in which I, if in a keeper league, would probably keep them being forced to choose now. Without further ado...Keeper League Rankings1. Alex Gordon1a. Kevin Kouzmanoff2. Ryan Braun2a. Edwin Encarnacion3. Akinori Iwamura4. Andy LaRoche5. Mark ReynoldsAlright. I hope you enjoyed this feature today. I'll be back tomorrow with the Waiver Wire for both leagues and possibly something else.
Ranking the Young Third Basemen: Part III
2007-05-26 23:50:00
Alright. Throughout the day I've analyzed some of the Top Young Third Basemen in the majors. Now, I'll rank these guys in the order I think you should pick them up if you are in need of a 3B/CI. First will be short-term rankings. Please keep in mind that rookies are the toughest players to predict because we are basing these predictions on easily compromised minor league numbers and speculation. A guy like Ryan Braun could hit for a good average if his 2007 AAA numbers carry over, but as this is somewhat unlikely, I'm not going to count on him hitting .300 for me.Alongside each player I've listed stats. These are not scientifically created. They came off the top of my head, and they are only there to compare the different skills of the different players. If your team needs steals, you'd be better off taking Iwamura or Gordon or Braun. If you need power and can afford a slightly lower BA, Reynolds might be your man. The numbers are for comparative purposes only, so please do not...
Alex Gordon & Kevin Kouzmanoff
2007-05-18 17:40:00
Alex Gordon & Kevin Kouzmanoff     The official word from the Royals front office is basically (paraphrasing here): “We’ll give him 40 games minimum to judge how he’s doing.” Maybe I’m jumping the gun here, but after 38 games Gordon has one of the worst OPS’ in the major’s at a lowly .541. In these games, he’s stuck out 41 times, ...
RC Mailbag: What?s wrong with Alex Gordon?
2007-04-18 11:17:00
RC opens up the mailbag today to answer some reader questions. What’s the problem with Alex Gordon, and might he be sent down to Omaha if his struggles continue? Which minor leaguers could have breakout performances this year? What changes have the Royals implemented in their minor league system under Dayton Moore? ...
Zach Greinke, Alex Gordon, Josh Hamilton
2007-04-17 04:33:00
Zach Greinke, one of the pitching surprises of 2007, gave-up 4 earned runs in two-thirds of an inning tonight.  Those ERs brought his ERA to 3.95.  That is still a very good AL ERA, but his fantasy owners aren't going to recognize that when they see its effects on their team ERA.  Throw-in those six runners, and his WHIP rose to 1.98.  He can be had in a trade now. * Royals' teammate Alex Gordon now qualifies at SS in traditional Rotisserie leagues with his appearance at SS tonight.  Sliding him to the middle makes that sub-.150 AVG more palatable, doesn't it?  Does Dave Luciani feel any sense of schadenfreude? * Am I the only one still reserving judgment on Reds OF Josh Hamilton?  I feel a little bad about raining on this feel-good story of redemption, but I can't get past the fact that he has barely played this year.
