Algarve attracts British tourists
2008-04-29 02:00:00
Owners of rental accommodation in the Algarve could be set to see strong demand this summer, experts have suggested.According to Holidays-Direct, the Portuguese tourist hotspot has attracted considerable interest from British holidaymakers in the last few months. The online travel agency said that during the year to date, it has been the subject of the most searches on its website. This has prompted it to predict that lots of British holidaymakers will flock to the region for their summer holidays this year.As a result, owners of buy-to-let property in the Algarve should benefit from higher occupancy rates and rental returns.Jon Pearce, spokesperson for Holidays-Direct, commented: "With some of Europe's most attractive and cleanest beaches, exceptional landscapes and year round sunshine, the Algarve is quite rightly a holiday hotspot for British tourists looking for some sun."He added that the region is proving to be popular because it offers lots of leisure attractions at a "relativ...
Rental demand set to grow in Algarve
2008-04-23 02:00:00
Thousands of people are set to take advantage of new flights between Britain and the Algarve, an airline has stated. Earlier this week, budget carrier easyJet began operating its new service from Glasgow to the region's capital Faro. The airline has predicted that during the next 12 months, it will transport about 16,000 leisure travellers on this route. This means that rental accommodation across the Algarve is likely to be in much higher demand this year, a development which could prove highly lucrative for those who own property in the area. David Osborne, UK general manager at easyJet, commented: "This direct route to Faro has already proven a popular choice and will offer all Scots the opportunity to experience the glorious Algarve from their local airport." This comes after official figures revealed that the European country attracted 23 million holidaymakers during 2007 - an increase of five per cent on the previous year.

Algarve Boom on Track
2008-02-08 01:00:00
Many investors believed that once the new airport had been approved in Ato that there would be a property boom towards the coastline, taking away some of the regular tourist trade from the Algarve It was however announced recently that the site of the airport will now be to the south of the Tagus River at Alcochete rather than to the north at Ato, as originally planned. As recently quoted by Forbes.com Prime Minister Socrates minister said that a study by the LNEC civil engineering laboratory concluded the airport could be built at Alcochete or at Ota, but that Alcochete would provide more advantages 'and beat Ota on four of the seven crucial criteria These factors were safety, natural resource sustainability, economic and social development, and financial evaluation, he said. Socrates denied that the selection of Alcochete was based on financial issues, noting that the cost difference between the two options was small, with total investment until 2050 at Ota estimated at 5.1 Billi...

Late surge in British news media holiday bookings for the Algarve

There has been a late surge in bookings by Britons seeking to extend their summer. Planes filled with ordinary working people from the BBC, Sky News and the nation's tabloid newspapers have headed off to try and grab a few extra days of sun-soaked reporting in Portugal. ?The last chance I had for a break in the sun was in May. We stayed for as long as we could afford, but we are just normal journalists, and we had to go back to the day job - writing about celebrity drug problems and David Cameron's hair,? said Mary Billingsworth of Sky News. Increasingly as their standard of living... [Visit website for more]
