2008-08-22 07:00:00 "With $37.2 billion in revenues in 2007, Kraft (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=kft)(NYSE: KFT (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=kft)) is the largest food manufacturer in the U.S. and second-largest worldwide," notes leading turnaround stock expert George Putnam (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2288).The- editor of The Turnaround Letter (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2288) explains, "New management has begun to shake things up and the turnaround program is well underway." Here's the advisor's review."The roots of some of Kraft’s products reach all the way back to 1767, but it wasn’t until 1903 that James L. Kraft started his wholesale cheese business from a horse drawn wagon in Chicago. Today, Kraft produces many of the best-known food brands in the world."In 1988, Philip Morris (renamed Altria) purchased Kraft, and in 2000 it integrated the purchase of Nabisco into Kraft. Defensive assets boost Altria (MO)
2008-03-17 06:00:00 "Altria (quote.htm?sym=mo) (NYSE: MO (quote.htm?sym=mo)) is one of the best stocks to own in this environment," says market expert Bill Martin (ccount/click.php?id=1844). In his Bullmarket.com (ccount/click.php?id=1844), he looks at the stock's defensive characteristics. "Altria just recently reiterated its earnings outlook for itself and soon to be spun-off Philip Morris International (PMI). Excluding PMI, Altria said it expects to grow 2008 EPS by 9-11% off an adjusted base of $1.50. Longer term, the company expects EPS growth of 8-10%."Altria's projections come despite the company expecting cigarette volumes in the U.S. to decline by -2.5% to -3.0% over the next few years. The company also anticipates cost savings of $1 billion annually as a result of the PMI spin-off, with $300 million realized last year and the rest to be wrung out by 2011. "PMI, meanwhile, is forecasting 12-14% EPS growth from a 2007 pro-forma adjusted base of $2.78. Longer term, the company is looking...
Altria to Spin Off International Unit
2007-09-02 20:18:00 Altria announced that it would begin taking steps to spinoff of its Philip Morris International tobacco arm, setting into motion the second phase of a corporate restructuring Altria had been contemplating for several years. On Wednesday, Altria said that the precise timing of the spin-off will be determined at a Jan. 30 board meeting. Since the move has been largely anticipated, however, the transaction could be completed by as soon as early next year. Separating the international and U.S. parts of Philip Morris makes sense because while

Altria: Options Players Betting On Big Announcement
2007-06-13 16:58:00 Todd Sullivan submitted a great article to SeekingAlpha: With the Altria board meeting, there is much anticipation that either a huge buyback, dividend increase or the PMI (Phillip Morris International) spin will finally be announced. It would appear that option buyers are betting that something is coming soon. The December 70 strike, in the money by a dollar or so, has seen more than 18,500 contracts change hands today on the long-dated option. Heading into today's action, this strike was already home to peak open interest in the Decem

Loaded Up Altria and More Gold
2007-05-17 19:47:00 I have been long considering adding Altria (MO) to my investments because of its long history of dividend growth. On March 13, 2007, MO distributed a quarterly dividend of $0.86/share, equivalent to a $3.44 annual dividend (5.00% yield). Though the spin-off of Kraft Food will reduce its annual dividend to $2.75, MO has increased its ...
Kraft Free Altria
2007-04-25 21:29:00 Yesterday, tobacco juggernaut Altria (NYSE: MO) said that earnings per share fell by a whopping 21%. But I'll keep holding onto my shares. Here's why. During the quarter, the company rid itself of Kraft (NYSE: KFT), which was essentially dead weight and becoming a drag on the stock's potential. The decrease in Q1 profits is largely attributable to an effective tax rate of 33.5% during the quarter, which was significantly higher than the 12.8% rate in the year-ago quarter. The drop is also due in part to lower results at Kraft. Net rev

Altria Prepares for Kraft Spin Off
2007-03-26 01:17:00 Altria Group provided more details about its spin-off of Kraft Foods on Turesday saying that shareholders will receive 0.69 shares of the food company for each share of Altria they own. Altria has an 88.9% stake in Kraft and also owns Philip Morris USA and Philip Morris International. On March 30, the company will distribute all of its Kraft shares, making the spin-off official. Some analysts don't think that will be the end of restructuring for Altria, which wants to streamline operations and focus on tobacco-related products. O
Altria Shareholders - Dump Your Kraft Shares
2007-02-10 21:13:02 Todd Sullivan had this great article over on SeekingAlpha. I never really thought about the Kraft spin-off the way he did. Now, I have been a fan of Altria for some time now, and I recognize the strong market share and the ever-growing international market for them, but I would have stuck with my Kraft shares without much thought if I hadn't read this article. As Todd said in the article, "The acquisition of Kraft (KFT) was an ill-conceived plan to diversify away from the business of tobacco. It accompanied the name change from Phillip Morris to Altria. Kraft does business in a low margin, low growth arena and this never meshed with the highly profitable tobacco segment." Why would you want to be in that business? Plus, now you have a great legal environment for the Tobacco industry as the lawsuits are almost over and, if you read the article, as Todd points out the States have an incentive to make sure that the Tobacco companies maintain their market share. G...
Altria to Spin Off Kraft... Shocking!
