Alora Ambiance Uno Reed Diffuser ~ home fragrance review
2008-04-12 22:54:00 A friend of mine recently sent me a wonderful gift: the Alora Ambiance Reed Diffuser in Uno. Alora Ambiance was, as I understand it, the first company to introduce the diffuser concept to the United States, based off a home fragrance tradition that the founding partners ? sisters ? stumbled across while living in Italy near the gorgeous Lago di Como. This lovely concept has been highly successful in the US, and has since seen a variety of companies introduce similar products. Uno is described as Alora's sweetest fragrance, a feminine composition of muguet, lemon, sandalwood and musk. The first time I tested it, I dabbed a bit on the back of my hand and inhaled. It was a cold, wet, end-of-winter day here in New York, but I found myself transported to an early morning in northern Italy...the pale sunlight filtering into a warm and earthy kitchen that still slumbers, coffee waiting to be made. A huge pile of glossy yellow lemons sitting in fancifully painted Deruta ceramic bowl. The ...

?See the Difference You Can Make?: Earth Hour 2008
2008-03-22 02:10:00 What?s more romantic than a candlelit evening? A candlelit evening inspired by a shared environmental conscience, that?s what. Last year, millions of Australians participated in the first annual Earth Hour to raise awareness about, and to actively combat, climate change caused by global warming (if you still think that global warming ?isn?t real,? better pull your head out of the increasingly hot sand real quick, and hope that right-wing of yours can fly you and your descendants to another planet). This year, at 8 p.m. next Saturday, March 29, 2008, millions of people worldwide will accept the Earth Hour ?challenge.? I put the word ?challenge? in quotation marks (twice, even) because the concept could not be simpler or easier: shut off your lights for one hour. That?s it. Such a small gesture can be all it takes to really get you thinking about your personal environmental impact and responsibility, but Earth Hour is far from a gesture alone. According to its website (www.earthhour.o...

2008-01-20 11:42:00 Uniqueness is only true when you have experienced other venues enabling you to compare. The Reservoir Lounge is a one-off. There is no other venue in the world like it. The Reservoir Lounge has innovatively set the standard in Toronto for Swing Jazz and Jump Blues. The open upright Piano sitting dominantly on the 12-inch high stage can be seen from every seating area in the house. The Pilot Grill - Live Jazz every Saturday and Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
2008-01-20 11:28:00 It was 1944 when "The Pilot Grill" opened its original location, 800 Yonge Street on the west side, just north of Bloor Street. The Pilot's distinct name was meant to be a tribute to the heroic flyers of World War II. After the war ended in '45, The Pilot became known as an artists' bar and was a favorite hang-out for the Spadina Eleven and a host of artists from nearby Isaac's Gallery and Carmen Lamanna down the street. The Pilot remained a steady presence through the sixties as Yorkville developed into the hub of Toronto's hippie community. 1972 brought the move to our present location at 22 Cumberland Street, just one block north. Legend has it that when the actual move took place, a group of Pilot regulars physically carried the classic Art Deco-style bar around the corner to its new home. read more

Old Bed Designs Still Provide Ambiance
2007-11-25 15:09:00 Contrary to what most people think, antique furniture and bedding do not really take out the spark and memories at the time they were introduced and offered for sale. Most of them cost at a fairly higher price these days, something that antique beds and designs carry if they are still available and existent in ...

The Ambiance of Venice
2007-08-26 02:46:00 Ahhh, Venice..sounds of Andrea Boccelli resonating from open balcony windows. Two young lovers comfortably embraced while savoring a nice gondola ride through a quaint canal. Couples strolling down the narrow cobblestone streets mano-a-mano. Romance is in the air. And there's no better place for romance than a trip to Venice.Venice's main waterway is the Canale Grande (Grand Canal) which snakes its way through the city for approximately 2 miles. Other canals will feed into and out of this one. The Grand Canal is the "Main Street" of Venice.A good vantage point to see the Grand Canal and its activity is from the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto). The Rialto Bridge is one of only three bridges to cross the Grand Canal. The original wooden drawbridge collapsed and was rebuilt a few times culminating with its current day stone structure in the late 1500's.Piazza San Marco is really the heart and soul of Venice. This is the main tourist focal point of the city. It is a place where p...
