90% of Americans See Hardships With High Gas Prices
2008-06-30 13:03:00 Photo by Saintbridge Want to be the nation’s hero? Figure out a way that we can solve the high gasoline prices that have 9 in 10 Americans saying have caused them financial hardship. E85 ethanol might be one solution. Hydrogen could be another once fueling stations are built. Whatever we do, we need to do it quickly. The airlines are already near financial ruin. Our automobile manufacturers are suffering. Our credit is crunched — and many cannot afford to fill up their cars without borrowing from their credit card. Our economy is heading toward a 70s-style malaise with high energy prices and stagnant incomes. What do you think will end up being the solution to our nation’s energy problems? Could the answer be more domestic drilling, bio fuels such as E85 ethanol and bio diesel, hydrogen, hybrids and plug-ins, or some combination of the above? Which will be the longest term solution to America’s energy crisis? If you were elected president, what would you ...

The court’s 5-4 ruling strikes down the District of Columbia’s 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment. The decision goes further ...

Bob Barr Urges Congress: No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendm
2008-06-21 12:03:00 Bob Barr Urges Congress: No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendment Protections June 19, 2008 6:33 pm EST Atlanta , GA -- “In asserting his power to conduct warrantless searches of Americans, President George W. Bush has expressed his clear contempt for the Fourth Amendment. So has Sen. John McCain, despite his reputation as a supposed maverick,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. Now the Democratic-led Congress is preparing to approve a so-called compromise that gives the Bush administration almost everything it wants in order to expand dramatically the power of the federal government to surveil American citizens without court orders. “ America desperately needs leaders who will stand up for the Bill of Rights,” observes Barr, “not those who flaunt its vital and time-honored protections.” The president already has the power to conduct surveillance of foreign terrorists. The 30-year old Foreign Intelligence ...

The ugly Americans
2008-06-08 16:16:00 In the mad rush to blame speculators for high oil prices, our solons in Washington have inadvertently revealed a U.S.-centric, 20th century mindset. I’m sure Sens. Carl Levin and Dianne Feinstein think they’re enlightened types, far beyond any sort of “ugly American” mentality. But that’s exactly what they betray with their notion of closing the “London loophole.” Says Levin, “The [Commodity Futures Trading Commission] didn’t have good information about who was trading how much US oil when, and whether traders subject to US speculation limits were circumventing them by trading in London. That’s why I and my colleagues have repeatedly introduced legislation…

Nightly Ramble: Making Americans vulnerable, Have a drink on me, wipe-out,
2008-06-04 22:21:00 From Boortz, a vid of Obama telling us how he wants to disarm America. Apparently, he hasn’t leaned the lessons of Viginia Tech. Disamring people is only going to make situations like that worse… and there’s a lot of nutjobs waiting in the wings. Seems to me this suggests a backward approach to foriegn policy, as well. Drink up, my boy. You know those anti-bacterial wipes? They can cause as many problems a they solve. I see Michael Pfleger has been suspended at St. Sabina parish. Gee. How will black leftists survive? Says he, in the most ominous tones possible: “This is a dangerous time in America, the freest country in the world where you have to whisper your thoughts.” Well, look, Mike. 2008 Home security tips & pointers for Americans
2008-06-03 22:30:00 Does your home look dark and gloomy like some kind of a haunted house at night? I certainly hope not but in case your home does looked like one, please spend some money and install night lights or some motion detection light at strategic places around your home. We have a lot of reliable China-made motion detection lights nowadays and anybody can afford to install a few. Go and ask any cops and they can tell you that the most common way for a house burglar to gain entry into any house is through a window that has been left open or unlocked by the house owner. Yeah, checking windows and making sure that they are shut and lock properly is properly the hardest thing to do for a lazy person but please do not take this for granted. Check and make sure that your windows are properly locked and secured before leaving home even if you are in a hurry to go out! Stop hiding or leaving your house keys on common places such as on top of the door frame, under the door mat or in some pots of p...

A jobs program that will cost Americans nothing
2008-05-26 01:43:00 Check that. It will actually make Americans richer and more secure. Come to think of it, it will annoy some very bad people in the world to boot. The answer is: Allow American corporations to explore for oil on American ground and off-shore (Maybe we can get some of the Caribbean oil before the Chinese drink our milkshake.). Such a policy will: 1. Lower energy prices which will, in turn, enable Americans to keep more money with which they can then buy more health care or save for college or organic foods or whatever. 2. Provide thousands of high-paying jobs. We may even need more low-skilled immigrant labor. 3. Fill the treasury with even more billions of dollars from the oil corporations. If we really want to improve the environment and reduce the already low unemployment rate, how about building nuclear power plants? Nahhh, too easy, right? There's no fun in societal improvement when the government's not directly involved.Powered by b2evolution.

Are Fewer Americans Buying Life Insurance?
2008-05-19 14:46:00 A recent article on PR Newswire suggests that fewer Americans are applying for life insurance policies in the first 4 months of 2008, compared to last year. This seems to be an interesting change, possibly due to the increase in the cost of gas and consumable goods? If so, I would think more people would want to buy Term Life Insurance, which is much less expensive, in most cases, and the rates continue to decline. Here's the article: Source: PR Newswire BRAINTREE, Mass., May 16 /PRNewswire/ --North American application activity for individually underwritten life insurance was off -4.5 in April, year-over-year, according to the MIB Life Index(SM).
