Amnesty International 2008 Report Critical of Iran & Egypt
2008-05-30 18:28:00
Amnesty International has just released its 2008 report regarding the state of the world's human rights.Concerning the repression of religious minorities, most prominent were the struggles of the Baha'is of Egypt and Iran.Regarding Egypt, the report states the following in reference to the identity documents matter:The legal requirement to specify religion on identity papers, and only religions recognized by the state, continued to have serious implications for some minorities. Baha’is, whose faith is not recognized by the state, cannot obtain identity papers without posing as a Muslim, Christian or Jew. Without the papers, they cannot enroll children in school, drive a car, or open a bank account. The lack of identity papers also leaves them vulnerable during police checks. Converts, especially from Islam to Christianity, also faced difficulties changing their papers. As to Iran, it reported a brief account of the current escalation of oppressive practices against the Baha'i po...

Contact Your Senators Today and Say ?No Stealth Amnesty!?

The Democratic version of Amnesty equals perpetual financial slavery for illegal immigrants!H/T Laura IngrahamSTOP BACKDOOR AMNESTY NOW--CALL YOUR SENATORS! Contact your elected "officials" in the U.S. Senate and tell them "no" to the stealth amnesty provisions that have been attached to the Iraq War Funding Supplemental Bill. Dianne Feinstein's AgJobs amendment is a total outrage--and would allow for at least 3 million illegal aliens to receive amnesty over the next few years. Tell your senators to just say "no."H/T/ FAIRSenators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Larry Craig (R-ID) successfully attached a version of AgJOBS onto the bill. This special interest legislation is intended to protect sources of cheap labor by granting 5-year amnesty visas to 1.35 million illegal aliens plus their spouses and children. To see a summary of the amnesty portion of the Feinstein-Craig amendment, click here. If that weren't enough, the Senate Appropriations Committee also saddled the Iraq War Fundi...

AN AMERICAN WARNING - ANOTHER AMNESTY BILL - VERY URGENT
2008-05-18 05:18:00
An American Warning - 5/17/08 Big Big Issue? You?re not going to believe this? but I hope you hear this and I hope you get really pissed off when I tell you. Keep in mind? we still have a little bit of time here? but it?s only because the House of Representatives unexpectedly delayed the Iraq supplemental spending Bill Thursday, the full Senate won't be allowed to vote on the amnesty bill that the Senate Appropriations Committee unexpectedly took up and approved Thursday and attached to it. If you didn?t catch that? I?ll spell it out. There is an AMNESTY Bill attached to an IRAQ spending bill. So in order to fund our troops and their safety? Feinstein wants to trade that for Criminal Amnesty. It now looks like the full Senate won't be allowed to vote on the amnesty for around 1.3 million illegal alien ag workers (plus their families) until next Wednesday. That gives us some time to beat this atrocity. This bill is sick and really does about four things. - Grant a three-year ...

Amnesty 'Unsubscribe Me' camp

Amnesty says torture widespread in Indonesia
2008-04-16 15:45:00
Torture and other human rights abuses are still widespread in Indonesia 10 years after the fall of dictator Suharto, Amnesty International says.Though the government ratified the UN Convention Against Torture and instituted key legal reforms after Suharto's demise, Amnesty receives reports of abuse "on a regular basis," according to a briefing paper by the rights group."As of early 2008, old and new national laws continue to offer inadequate safeguards to deter the use of torture and ill-treatment in all circumstances," the report says."This context of widespread use of torture and other ill-treatment is aggravated and supported by a pattern of impunity throughout the country, which can be perceived by perpetrators as giving them license to continue violating human rights."Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com-

March 27   USA:   Amnesty International     USA: Government must ensure meaningful judicial review of Mexican death row cases 27 March 2008 AI Index: AMR 51/025/2008   On 25 March 2008, in a case involving the USA's obligation to comply with judgments of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of the State of Texas and against a Mexican national on death row there. The Supreme Court has effectively passed the buck to the other branches of government to act to ensure that the USA meets its international obligations. Amnesty International urges them to do so.   The 6-3 ruling, Medelln v. Texas, concerns the case of Jos Medelln, a Mexican national and 1 of 5 people sentenced to death for the murder of 14-year-old Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena, 16, in Houston in 1993. Is This What Amnesty Looks Like?

Remember the amnesty bill last summer that created so much outrage? That was about the time that the polls saying that 70-80%+ of Americans opposed amnesty. It was a big, controversial media circus. Other than the fact that it allowed amnesty for illegal immigrants, I had no idea what the exact provisions were in this bill. They shocked me. Thanks to reader Joseph M. for sending in this video.
