Funniest Analogies...
2008-08-05 17:56:00
This is from an email I received. I thought it was too cute not to share. The e-mail says they are taken from actual high school essays and collected by English teachers across the country for their own amusement. Some of these kids may have bright futures as humor writers. What do you think? 1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a ThighMaster. 2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free. 3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it. 4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. Coli, and he was room-temperature Canadian beef. 5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound ...

Frivolous Holocaust Analogies, Update
2008-05-01 04:46:00
On the eve of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) I feel it necessary to keep up the crusade against those who resort to petty, simplistic Holocaust comparisons in an attempt to score cheap shock value points. When Hamas engages in Holocaust exploitation, such as their recent claim that the Shoah was a Zionist engineered conspiracy ...

101 Kim Kardashian inspired analogies ...
2008-04-01 12:22:00
Like a smack addict seeking out his next fix, it seems I can’t go a week without blogging about Kim Kardashian. Like a blood-thirsty tick, she has dug herself under my skin. There is just something about Kim Kardashian makes me feel like I have an itch that I can’t scratch … like genital herpes. Maybe it’s just that her boobs and ass are digging their way into my brain like some sort of “Wrath of Kahn” earwig. I really don’t know what it is, but suddenly I want to play volleyball …Ok, that’s enough of that. I feel like Mr. Analogy today. There is just something about a good analogy that makes you feel as satisfied as that first bite of pizza when you are really hungry. A good analogy just flows out of you like a cold glacial mountain stream. You feel it welling up inside of you like hot magma in old Mt. Vesuvius just waiting to blow out all over the page like testicular discharge over Kim Kardashian’s Playboy pictorial.See, if you wait long enough, eventually I g...

Analogies To John Edwards
2007-12-19 07:17:00
Robert Stein has an excellent response to Paul Krugman’s recent attacks on Barack Obama and defense of John Edwards. Stein wrote: Krugman’s alternative is John Edwards, who is portraying himself as “another F.D.R.–a polarizing figure, the object of much hatred from the right, who nonetheless succeeded in making big changes.” If Edwards is the answer, what’s the ...

Bush's False Analogies Between Vietnam and Iraq
2007-09-05 11:45:00
by Brian McAfee With President Bush recently bringing up the killing fields of South East Asia as justification for the US continuing the war in Iraq [1], I could not help but think of John Pilger's 1991 film "Cambodia: The Betrayal." [2] This documentary investigates and outlines the West's, particularly the US's, behind the scenes and ongoing support for Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Indeed, this backing began during the Carter administration and it continued throughout both the Reagan and George W. Bush administrations. Betrayal video in Full 5034541050212117056 After Pol Pot's incursions into Vietnam and the slaughter of hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in villages just over the border from Cambodia, Vietnam retaliated and managed to expel the Khmer Rouge from Phnom Penh. Hanoi then put in place a government in Cambodia that was no longer a threat to the Vietnamese. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge then retreated back into the rural areas and, su...

2007-08-05 03:19:00

Funny High School Analogies
2007-07-10 23:41:00
I wish I had thought of some of these during my inglorious high school English career. My compositions were as interesting as reading the Shanghai Telephone Book.1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a ThighMaster.2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. Coli, and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.6. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.7. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.8....
Conan's SAT Analogies
2007-06-05 00:00:00
During Monday night's SAT Analogies skit on 'Late Night' Conan O'Brien joked, "We'll start with a pretty easy one. Jordan Sparks is to 'I grew up on American Idol' as Paula Abdul is to 'I threw up on American Idol.' ... 'Lindsay Lohan 2005' is to 'I'
