Anderson Silva moves to 205 for July 19 UFC event
2008-06-17 20:08:00 Source:MMAWEEKLY.COMWhile everyone else is headed down, Anderson Silva is on his way up. Although the Ultimate Fighting Championship has yet to make its own official announcement, company president Dana White on Tuesday confirmed to Dave Meltzer of Yahoo Sports that there will indeed be a July 19 UFC event that will air on Spike TV. According to Meltzer, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will headline the event, though there is an added twist. He will not be defending his belt. While most fighters today are dropping down as many weight categories as they possibly can, the champ is headed up. Silva will make the move to light heavyweight, temporarily, without relinquishing his middleweight belt, to face James Irvin. Contacted by MMAWeekly.com, Irvin on Tuesday confirmed the bout, saying that he had just received the contract and finalized the deal earlier in the day. Although other possible match-ups had been discussed, including one with Wanderlei Silva, Irvi...

Canceled Roy Jones vs. Anderson Silva Fight Is Bittersweet
2008-04-09 07:13:00 It could have been one of the biggest sporting events of the year, but thanks to Dana White it’ll never happen. Anderson Silva’s dream boxing match against Roy Jones Jr. has been deaded, because White “didn’t want to embarrass the UFC”, if Silva got knocked out in the first round. Dana White understandably realized that ...

Watch Anderson Silva vs. Jeremy Horn (Gladiator FC 2004, Korea)
2008-03-28 19:43:00 A Fight video today:Anderson Silva vs. Jeremy HornGladiator FC 2004, KoreaJeremy Horn vs Anderson Silva - GFCby UrbanXMy Highlights (My comments while watching this.):Relatively good takedown defense by Silva (considering it's against Horn)......Until he gets picked up and dropped.Excellent GNP defense by Silva, ending up with him on top.Horn wastes no time, finds the hole from Half-Guard, escapes.Simple and effective Guard Pull by Silva. After stalling out, they start standing, and thus begins the general destruction of Horn by Silva... and that basically carries over to the next two rounds, Silva wins by Unanimous Decision, not surprising.
Anderson Silva to Box Roy Jones Jr?
2008-03-25 17:01:00 According to NBCSports.com representatives of UFC Fighter Anderson Silva an boxer Roy Jones Jr are in conversations of a possibly boxing match between Silva and Jones! The conversations are currently in their early stages and a lot of logistics need to be worked out. Such considerations are the rules of the bout, the ability for Anderson to step outside of his UFC contract to fight and the weight class that the two would match up at. According to NBCSports.com, “the two would probably meet at a weight between 170 (Jones’ last fight) and 185 (Silva’s weight class)”. In addition to the agreement to be worked out among the Anderson Silva party and the UFC, as well as Anderson’s team and Jones’ team, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has their contributions to making the deal go through as well. According to NBCSports.com, the “Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer said that the commission would have to gather info...

Top 10
2008-03-12 00:16:00 As I'm sure you can probably tell, 90% of my information regarding MMA comes from the UFC and watching whatever fights I can that are found by much more resourceful people than me. See mmascraps.com and punchkickchoke.blogspot.comThis- means that obviously, my top ten will be much more biased than some. Also, I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with my choices because I like being entertained while watching fights.Without much further ado:1. Fedor Emelianenko: people can argue that he hasn't fought a top-tier fighter in over a year, but fuck that, the guy's already beat most of the best and it's not HIS fault the Couture fight has taken so long materialize. This guy is brutally efficient, moves like a lightweight, and is classy in the way he conducts himself.2. BJ Penn: I've already written about my love/hate reaction to this guy. He's an awesome teacher, seems like a cool guy to have a beer with, and (on his day) one of the most unstoppable fighters in the world. At t...

2008-03-06 04:31:00 Mixed Martial Arts has caught on like wildfire in the last few years since the demise of boxing and the brutality that came along with it. UFC 82: Pride of the Champion Results
2008-03-03 22:30:00 Anderson Silva Chokes Out Dan Handerson In Second RoundAmazing card last night most fights were spectacular again each UFC even gets bigger and better. Last night in the main event we saw Anderson Silva defend his middleweight belt against the number 1 contender Dan Henderson. Many believed Henderson to be the only real current threat to Silva in this weight division and predicted a very close fight. Henderson did manage a takedown in the first which had many worried as Silva clearly stated he had only trained for a standing fight. The second started very much as a standing fight which led to the two opponents trading blows , leading to the beginning of Hendersons downfall as he was floored by a trademark Silva combo of lightning knees and punches. After a bit of ground action Anderson managed to lock a body triangle and then a choke hold, forcing a resilient Henderson to tap out.The result leaves one Question.... who next for Anderson Silva? Main Card:Anderson Silva submits (rear nak...

UFC 82 Fight Results - Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson and More…
2008-03-03 17:32:00 The official results of UFC 82 are in. Anderson Silva def. Dan Henderson via submission (rear-naked choke) — Round 2, 4:52 As predicted in my UFC betting prediction, Anderson Silva defeated Dan Henderson. There’s no stopping this guy, the way he performed against Henderson was absolutely amazing. The two came out, felt each other out showing total respect for each other’s skill. For over a minute the two didn’t exchange and then Henderson threw a blow which lead to Silva throwing some kicks. The two exchanged for a little bit and then continued to feel each other out. Henderson took Silva down several times in the first round and proceeded to throw hammer fists to Anderson’s head. In the second round Anderson seemed much more comfortable in the ring dancing around striking with high kicks and punch combinations. Anderson landed a number of strikes bringing Henderson to the mat, he took Dan’s back, flattened him out, punches him with st...
Live UFC 82 Results Tonight - Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson
2008-03-02 10:01:00 The Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC as we know it. It's a bloody battle between men in the Octagon. It's the Championship between Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson. Now who won the Championship? The beginning of the fight totally sucked, since they weren't doing anything. Henderson attacked first, then Silva retaliates with kicks. Henderson was totally offensive in the first round and won it

UFC 82
2008-03-01 15:28:00 Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I'm excited for this card. I even watched the weigh-ins, which have always struck me as awkward and boring. They're like playing Candyland once you're over the age of 12; you're trying to convince yourself that it's fun and interesting, but you know in the back of your head that it's a waste of time and a terrible substitute for something interesting, like writing on a seldom seen blog. There are just so many potentially (read: not first round knockouts or lay-and-prays that go to decision) awesome fights, let's get to them:Gurgel v Halverson: Halverson's pretty impressive physically, especially for his age, but he doesn't really have a strength other than decent cardio. At the same time, Gurgel's been very disappointing in his previous few fights (2-2 I think). Like the presidential race, this one's tough to call because you end up picking the one you think will screw up less. Or at least you should, I'm picking Gurgel...via headbutt with th...

Chris Leben’s Next Fight… UFC 82 Dan Henderson vs Anderson Silva Fight
2008-01-28 22:41:00 Coming off of a sweet victory over Terry Martin at Ultimate Fight Night 11, Chris Leben is getting ready to face off with Alessio Sakara at UFC 82. The event will take place on March 1, 2008 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio, the same night that Anderson Silva will take on Dan Henderson for the UFC Middleweight championship. Henderson’s coming off of a loss in which he had a light heavyweight title shot against Quinton Rampage Jackson. Henderson didn’t get the Light Heavyweight Belt, now he’s getting a shot at the light heavyweight belt? How does that work? Shouldn’t there be some fights in between? I guess that Henderson’s performance against Rampage, which was a very close fight all the way, is enough to give him that shot for the middleweight belt. Although in my opinion, Anderson Silva is going to be a tougher battle for Henderson.
UFC 77 Hostile Territory Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva II

Dan Henderson To Stay At Middleweight
2008-01-02 08:06:00 In a short phone conversation last night, PRIDE FC Welterweight Champion Dan Henderson told IWF's Ben Zeidler that no matter whether he wins or loses in his UFC 82 bout with Anderson Silva, he will remain at Middleweight for "quite some time."Many felt that if Henderson lost, he would surely leave the UFC's Middleweight ranks, for which he previously expressed displeasure. But after talking with Dana White and considering the division on his own, he decided to make the jump.If he wins, the belt, Henderson would obviously stay in the lower weight division in order to defend his new crown. The new news is that even if he loses, he will stay around 185 in order to challenge the best that the division has to offer -- and hopefully get a second crack at Silva.

UFC 82 Location Revealed
2007-12-27 05:53:00 At least PRIDE's 185 pound champion Dan Henderson won't have to suffer losing both his belts in the same calendar year. He'll get to do it early next year against Anderson Silva. Think it can't get worse for Hollywood? Think again. He gets the displeasure of taking on The Spider in what has become his personal home field -- Columbus, Ohio. Not much to say here. The bout we all knew was going to take place still is, but it's in the place where Anderson Silva dominated hometown hero Rich Franklin. TWICE. If the crowd wasn't enough to boost their hometown favorite, Dan Henderson has no chance. Silva is only a -145 favorite right now, but expect that number to read -200 before the bell rings.

Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami (Rumble on the Rock 8)
2007-11-22 20:43:00 I put this up, because this was probably one of my favorite videos I've seen of striking from guard bottom. If you haven't seen this clip before, I throughly recommend it... it's very humorous.God, 'Spider' Silva is so !@#$#%! quick. It's ridiculous how overwhelming that guy is, and I can't wait until the Henderson vs Silva fight.-y*On a side note- while rolling with a friend of mine yesterday, I pulled off an omaplata under pressure for the first time. Ridiculous.*

UFC 82: Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson Booked
2007-11-21 23:47:00 The best thing that came out of UFC 78....Dana White announced Anderson Silva will fight Dan Henderson at UFC 82, currently scheduled for March 1, 2008 in Ohio. IWF Exclusive: The Future Of The UFC
2007-11-11 06:18:00 Although we have a set title fight in our sights (Hughes vs. Serra), a slightly deeper look into the ranks of the UFC will give us a more accurate picture of how the sport should shape up over the next six months. While feuds and rivalries culminate in once-a-month events, the sport is built between those events as every member of the roster fights, bargains, and even pleads for a title shot. The following is a look at each division and who is fighting for the title.Heavyweights: With Andrei Arlovski missing his new contract, Cro Cop dropping fights like he was bought off, and Couture temporarily out of the fight game, the whole division is really up for grabs. It?s unlikely that White would simply award the belt to the winner of an upcoming fight as it wouldn?t make sense for Kongo or Nogueira to receive a title with very little UFC experience under their belts. He could justify giving it to Sylvia as he was the last guy to hold the belt and is fresh off a win, but I doubt he?d...

Anderson Silva At The Top Of The Middle - 04 Nov 2007 01:25:21pm
2007-11-04 14:25:00 1. Anderson Silva The Ultimate Fighting Championship Middleweight Champion, Silva has done nothing but win since debuting in the promotion midway through 2006, finishing all five of his fights decisively. He recently emphasized his dominance with a second dismantling of former champion Rich Franklin. Silva has gone 8-1 in his last nine fights, his lone loss during that span being a disqualification loss to Yushin Okami in a fight he was otherwise dominating. 2. Paulo Filho Not many fighters remain undefeated in mixed martial arts, but somehow, Filho has managed to do that en route to a 15-0 record. He had a banner year in 2006 with wins over Murilo ?Ninja? Rua, Ryo Chonan and Kazuo Misaki. Out of action for the early part of 2007, Filho debuted in August for World Extreme Cagefighting capturing its middleweight title with a TKO stoppage of Joe Doerksen. 3. Matt Lindland Lindland amassed a 9-3 record in the UFC before disputes led to a parting of ways a little more than two years...
Travis Lutter: "I Really Think I Can Beat Anderson Silva!" - 02 Nov 2007 11
2007-11-02 12:26:00 By Percy Crawford UFC middleweight Travis Lutter talks about his recovery from the neck injury he suffered, his future plans and much more. "If they gave me a rematch with Anderson, I'd beat him," stated a confident Lutter and you don't want to miss what else he had to say about Silva's win over Rich Franklin and why he thinks Anderson would be concerned in a rematch with him. Check it out. PC: How have you been doing my man? TL: I'm doing good. I'm still recovering from the neck injury. It's one of them things that takes time. PC: Do you have a timetable on how long you will be out for? TL: I'm hoping for February to return back to the Octagon. I'm waiting on my neck right now. It looks like I'm going to have to get another shot. They're going to give me another Cortisone shot right in the disc of my neck and hopefully that works as far as them thinking that could fix it. Is It Possible to Underappreciate Anderson Silva? - 25 Oct 2007 11:27:41am
2007-10-25 13:27:00 By Joe Newman With his demolition of former UFC champ Rich Franklin, Anderson Silva has complete control of the middleweight division. But is the thin competition in the division keeping the Brazilian from reaching his full potential? A great fighter needs a great rival and, so far, none have materialized. Anderson Silva may have conquered the UFC middleweight division but there's still a sense that he's somehow lacking as a champion. Just look at the fan poll taken during the UFC 77 pay-per-view broadcast that showed a majority of fans thought Rich Franklin was going to beat Silva. Listen to some of the pundits remark after the fight that they aren't ready to anoint Silva one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Many think Dan Henderson would own Silva if Henderson were to move down from the light heavyweight division. He's got weaknesses, they say, whether it's his takedown defense or how he wouldn't match up well with someone who could...

The complete interview you find below. Was there any difference in this new fight against Rich Franklin? He seemed to be stronger, more motivated than the last time, it was difficult to hold his neck in the clinch, it maybe seemed to be an easy fight, but it wasn´t. Anderson Silva Looses Fight with a Flying Scissor Heel Hook Video
2007-10-24 22:48:00 Anderson Silva has very few looses on his record, 4 in total out of 24 fights. Two of the losses were from submission, one for a disqualification to Yushin Okami and one via a decision. Of those losses, his loss to Ryo Chonan is spectacular. Silva was dominating Chonan for the entirety of the fight until Chonan throws a last hope Flying Scissor Heel Hook and sinks it to win the fight in a matter of seconds. The move is totally insane, you have to see it for yourself.
