Not Sea Worthy, But It Lights Up A Room: The Anemone
2008-07-07 15:10:00 Ever handle Silly Putty? Remember how it slips and slides in your hands, changing its form as you move, kind of squishy-feeling? Well, here's a lamp that acts like Silly Putty, or more accurately, like an anemone, its namesake. Technorati Tags: Art and Design Fun Home Innovation International Products Shopping

Sterling Silver Fabricated Anemone Ring | John S. Brana - Distinctive Jewel
2008-02-02 23:00:00 Hereā??s a new twist on an old favorite. This ring was fabricated (as apposed to casting) using Sterling Silver sheet and wire, oxidized to enhance detail. My prior Anemone designs (seen here) were all hand sculpted using Precious Metal Clay (PMC). The benefits of fabrication vs. casting / PMC are: 1.) Longer Wear due to greater density (oft5 Zoom(s)
The sea anemone's barbed broadside
2008-01-13 15:21:00 Its flowery name belies the sea anemone's deadly nature. Found on rocks from shallow waters and tidal zones down to the deepest parts of the ocean, it is not as innocent as it appears, for its colourful, petal-like tentacles are capable of killing. On each one there are thousands of nematocysts, specialised cells containing tiny structures like harpoons. When a small fish brushes up against the anemone, it triggers off a massive harpoon attack. Each harpoon is firmly attached by a thread and has a poisoned barb that, once lodged in the prey, cannot be taken out. With its poisoned victim paralysed and secured by the thread, the anemone then devours its prey.
Aiptasia, Majano Anemones And Joes Juice
2007-11-21 03:16:00 When your aquarium is running no doubt like I did you will stare into the aquarium for hours peering into the water in the hope of seeing something new growing out of the rock. You will see all sorts of things growing, however there are some things in the aquarium, which although alive are more a pest than a welcome addition. What I am talking about here is the dreaded [tag-tec]Aiptasia[/tag-tec] and the [tag-tec]Majano anemone[/tag-tec]. Quite a few people (as i did) see the first one and think to themselves "that looks nice - I've got an anemone" but before long you wish you had never seen them. You start out with a few and before long you will have a tank full of them! This is why they are a pest. They multiply that quickly that they end up everywhere. There are numerous ways to control them. You can use shrimps in the form of peppermint shrimps, fish in the form of the copperband butterfly (I would not recommend this option as they are very hard to keep due to their feedi...

Sterling Silver Fabricated Anemone Ring
2007-10-30 20:19:00 Here’s a new twist on an old favorite. This ring was fabricated (as apposed to casting) using Sterling Silver sheet and wire, oxidized to enhance detail. My prior Anemone designs (seen here) were all hand sculpted using Precious Metal Clay (PMC). The benefits of fabrication vs. casting / PMC are: 1.) Longer Wear due to greater density (often years longer on ring shanks and prongs); 2.) Crisper and Cleaner detail of a design; 3.) Greater resistance to scratching; 4.) More brilliant polish. If you are interested in finding out more about the fabrication process, I would highly recommend checking out Review: Art of Hand Fabricated Jewelry Design | All Things Metal Clay
Symbiosis - The Clownfish and Anemones
2007-09-01 15:40:00 As the term symbiosis suggest, which means a varying degree of close relationship between organisms of different species, there is definitely a close relationship between the clownfish and the anemones. The tentacles of the anemone are covered with stinging cells. When predators are attracted to enter in pursuit of the fluttering clownfish, ...

2007-04-16 15:50:00 current count I think is 9 rose anemones currently in my tank. 4 of them are clones and the rest were purchased at my local fish store for varying prices that range from $60-99 dollars.
