Needless, Anime and Manga
2009-09-15 23:35:00
A little over a year ago, I began getting Ultra Jump magazine, when Hayate Cross Blade moved to there from its former home. One of the other series in the magazine was the manga Needless and, being the manga omnivore I am, I gave it a try. I picked it up in the middle of a fight between a bunch of girls, whose underwear the reader was shown repeatedly and a buxom woman with evil eyebrows, whose cleavage the reader spent a lot of time looking down. There were two older guys with silly facial hair, a bunch of people in the background and a lot of screaming. Now, about 14 months later, Needless is still in the middle of the very same battle, with the very same characters in the same locations and lots of screaming. So, when the anime was announced, you can bet I had no expectations. And so far, I've been right on with that. :-) In a post-apocalyptic setting, Needless is the name given to people with special powers who spend most of the series yelling and fighting. The story is su...

Naruto Shippuuden the Movie Review
2008-05-08 22:00:00
The first Naruto movie which takes place in the Shippuuden timeline when Naruto has gotten older after training with Jiraiya for a while came out in theatres in Japan last year but was recently released on DVD and subbed. It's been a long wait for this movie and it ended in disappointment. The movie follows Naruto, Lee, Neji and Sakura as they are assigned by the fifth hokage Tsunade to protect a priestess from the demon country after a group of evil doers intentionally awake an ancient evil spirit who soon after awakening seek to restore it's full power by acquiring it's body sealed away in a temple far away and then (you guessed it) rule the world. The priestess being protected by the gang from Konoha is the only one that can defeat the demon and so she needs to be escorted to the temple to prevent the demon from reuniting with it's body. There are brief split second appearances from other characters in the Naruto universe. It my opinion this movie is bullshit held togethe...
New Spring 2008 Anime I will be watching
2008-04-28 22:26:00
Last year was a good year for anime. I enjoyed anime like Seirei no Moribito and Claymore that premiered last spring, Naruto returned with Shippuuden and Gundam 00's first season got better with each episode. It's spring again and as usual brand new anime are premiering and a few are enjoying a continuation of their stories. After looking at write ups, previews, trailers and checking out at least one episode of most of the series that have started so far these are the three series I am most looking forward to: The Tower of Druaga: Aegis of Uruk It has demons, references to gods, great animation, art style, costume design and a somewhat interesting story (at least on paper). I've checked out only one episode so far and althought not overly impressed I'll be sticking around for a few more. Amatsuki This series was recommended by a friend from Japan and I am mostly watching it for "educational purposes"as it is set at the end of the Edo period of Japanese history when Japan w...
Gundam 00 Season One Review
2008-04-19 19:36:00
The Gundam series is one of the most popular brands in anime with numerous spinoffs, alternate stories, video games, animated movies and a merchandising empire. Gundam 00 is the latest is the linage and with the first season spanning 25 episodes over, this is an overview of the show, my review and my expectations for season 2 without spoiling too much for those who haven’t seen the first season yet and follows up on my Gundam 00 first impressions post. Gundam 00 Series Overview Gundam 00 takes place 300 years in the future, the world is split into 3 main countries/confederacies and the main these of the entire anime is war…..war with giant robots wielding deadly weapons. The 3 main factions in Gundam 00 are the Advanced European Union (AUE) which is like a future Europe with all the current ongoing integration and in-fighting over and done with, the Human Reform League (HRL) which is a union of Russia, China, India, Mongolia and other nearby countries and the Free Nations Union ...
Bleach Anime Movie: Memories of Nobody
2008-03-30 09:00:00
Memories of Nobody is a movie based on the popular Bleach anime and manga. I recently started watching the bleach episodes in the right order and also decided to have a look at the movies released based on the anime. Memories of Nobody is the first Bleach movie and was released in December of 2006, first in Japan and then on DVD there the summer of last year. It was recently announced that the movie will be released in a limited amount of theatres in North America soon with the DVD following not long after. About the film Bleach: Memories of Nobody is headlined by the main hero in the series Kurosaki Ichigo and features popular characters from the series like Captain Hitsugaya, Rukia Kuchiki and my favourite character Kisuke Urahara. Unidentifiable blank spirits start to appear in Ichigo's home town and he and Rukia Kuchiki goes to investigate only to run into a very skilled but unknown soul reaper named Senna. The story follows Ichigo's investigation of Senna, the blank souls m...
Doraemon now an Official Anime Ambassador
2008-03-24 17:48:00
It's no secret that Japan is a powerhouse in the animation industry and has been the leader long before it created the first feature length anime in 1958. Anime is now a permanent part of Japanese culture with shows covering every conceivable genre and topic. The Japanese government supports anime and the latest showing of support is making Doraemon the first ever anime ambassador of Japan. Anime is used to get the attention of foreigners which will hopefully get them interested enough about the country that they would want to learn more or even visit. About Doraemon Doraemon is a robotic cat from the future who travels back in time to aid a young boy. Although being a comedy the anime has many underlying lessons for it's viewers such as the importance of being honest and from time to time it evens touches on important topics such as pollution and deforestation. Since first being created in 1969 Doraemon has been the recipient of many awards and has been most popular in Asian c...
Just started watching Bleach "properly"
2008-03-20 05:23:00
Bleach is a very popular manga which was then turned into an anime series. It was created by Noriaki Kubo better known by his pen named Tite Kubo from the Hiroshima prefecture of Japan. Bleach is an anime I started out watching a few years ago, but got bored by it's slow pace and initially I didn't like the comedic twists and animations it had from time to time, I just found it awkward that a character could be bloodthirsty one minute that be a stupid comedian the other minute. Bleach stars Ichigo Kurosaki who starts the anime as a high school student who has a run in with soul reaper named Rukia Kuchiki and before you know it the story explodes into an action packed anime with light sprinkles of comedy. From what I see and hear among my friends Bleach is the next popular long running and continuous anime series after Naruto. You all know how disappointed I am with the stretching out of the Naruto anime currently and it just seems I get angrier each week when all kinds of unexpl...
Annoyed with the Naruto Manga and Anime - quick rant
2008-01-28 22:51:00
The Naruto manga series and it's anime adaptation is one of the most popular series not only in Jamaica but in the entire world right now. Naruto video games, memorabilia and other merchandise is pure gold at the moment and Naruto character Cosplayers overrun every popular Anime Expo, but my all seeing otaku eyes sense doom for the Naruto series on a whole because die hards like me are starting to be disappointed as my feelings are shared by most of my anime/manga loving friends. The Naruto Anime You could almost hear the celebrations of my otaku brethren worldwide when it was announced in mid 2006 that the Naruto anime was returning after a long break with an addition to the name and a promise of a continuation of the story, and in February 2008 Naruto Hurricane Chronicles was born. It started all well and good but after the first couple exciting episodes and the hype wore off I came to realize how lackluster the animation and artwork was with very few exceptions. The episodes ...

Otaku Fest in Guam a Big Success
2007-11-06 18:00:00
The Otaku conquest of the world continues with our latest ally turning out to be a small island in the middle of the pacific ocean. Guam is an overseas territory of USA with a population of less that 180, 000 people. More than 120 of them came out to Guam’s first ever Otaku Fest and from the looks of it, they had fun. Some of the jubilant cosplayers showing off their costumes Winners of the costumer contest first place (middle), second place (left), third place (right) Read more at Pacific Daily News Who wants to join me in planning an Otaku Fest for Jamaica?
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - First Impressions
2007-11-01 01:39:00
So far I have watched the first 4 of 25 episodes expected in the first season of the latest Gundam Series. I have been excited about this new Gundam series for months and I wrote about it in June. Gundam Exia and it's pilot has yet to impress me The story is very Gundam-like and revolves around a private organization calling themselves Celestial Being using the power of advanced mobile suits called Gundams in their quest to end all wars. Also in typical Gundam fashion a simple story is complicated by a huge cast of characters and the viewer sees the progression of the Gundam 00 story through these various characters. The "Flag" Mobile Suit that wiped the shine off Exia It's a bit too early to say if I like Gundam 00 or not, but I do look forward to each episode and I have already found my favourite suit and pilot. I have always been a fan of the big, high damage dealing Gundams like Heavy Arms instead of the pretty, agile, and flamboyant types and so far it seems that Gundam V...
Cool Gundam Animation Video
2007-10-27 19:11:00
I just finished watching the 3rd episode of the new Gundam series Gundam 00. I'm high on Gundam right now and found a page a bookmarked many weeks ago from Anime Sugoi. I'll be writing up a Gundam 00 first impressions post in the next couple days, I just hope I don't get in trouble like the Japanese officials who were reprimanded a few weeks ago for doing something similar at work. There are a whole series of videos, so check them all out!
Guardian of the Sacred Spirit Review
2007-10-20 22:30:00
Guardian of the Sacred Spirit (Seirei no Moribito) is finally reached it’s end and I thoroughly enjoyed the 26 episode long series that started back in the Spring of this year. Guardian of the Sacred Spirit is a beautifully animated anime in the fantasy, adventure genre that follows the adventure of Prince Chagum and Balsa the Spearwoman as she tries to protect the prince from first his father, then the warriors sent by his father to retrieve him and then from vicious ghostlike egg eater s from another world. The story of Guardian of the Sacred Spirit is refreshing, and the environment in which the story is told is believable and immersive. A small cast of characters are all developed over the course of the anime with special emphasis on the main characters Balsa and Chagum. The anime is not very action packed but the little action there is well executed and heightened by excellent music and sound effects. The later episodes of the series does well to close off the anime ...
FAnime Friday, check it out!
2007-10-20 20:33:00
Nanashi-inc.net is a really cool blog by 23 year old American Joana Rodriguez who is a big time anime fan. She has a nice little weekly feature on her blog called FAnime Friday in which every Friday she blogs about something anime and manga related with the intention of improving the anime viewing and manga reading experience of visitors. FAnime Fridays started way back in June so there are quite a few postings there to read and follow. The latest post about the lengthy delays between episodes of ultra popular series like Naruto Shippuuden and Bleach is an excellently written one and she even wrote about Claymore which is one of my favourite anime a few weeks ago.
New anime I am looking forward to for Fall 2007
2007-09-30 20:27:00
The spring and summer anime season has come and gone leaving many memorable anime series for us anime fanatics to enjoy for a long time to come, but the anime machine over in Japan will not slow down and as expected will unload a plethora of new anime series this fall. Anime covers many genres, art styles and age groups so not all anime will be attractive to all anime fans so below I have chosen the top 5 series I am looking forward to personally and these are the series I am most likely to blog about. I still have numerous seasons I need to finish watching such as Bokurano, Heroic Age and Seirei no Moribito just to name a few, but who says I can’t jump into a few new series as well ^_^. Night Wizard I’ve only seen the trailer for Night Wizard and a few images over at the official site but it already has a few things I like in certain anime. Swords, magic, mythical creatures, decent animation and a beautiful female with an oversized weapon, I can’t wait. Dragonaut The Reson...
Claymore Anime Review
2007-09-26 22:47:00
Let me start this review by stating that I am grossly upset at the way the claymore anime ended, but more on that later. About Claymore The anime takes place in a fictional world with a medieval, primitive setting. The human inhabitants of this world are constantly attacked by demon-like creatures called Youma who feed on their internal organs with special preference for their intestines. A secret organization was created to fight these creatures and protect humans. This organization creates special warriors by infusing the the flesh and blood of these monsters into the body of humans. This fusion creates warriors who share the superhuman strength and other powers of the vile, evil youma. The warriors of this unnamed organization are called Claymores, because of the large medieval blades they wield without much effort because of their special powers. Long ago Claymore warriors were all male but due to reasons explained in the anime it was decided that females were better suited to...
Heroic Age – lots of anime stereotypes and excellent CG
2007-09-19 05:45:00
As I write this I have only watched 12 of an estimated 26 episodes of this series. What are my thoughts? Do I like or hate it? What is Heroic age all about? Continue reading if you interested. The story for Heroic Age evolves around the powerful “Golden Tribe” who “summoned” three primitive races from the far reaches of the galaxy. These three races are the “Silver Tribe” – and arrogant group who are the most advanced of the lesser tribes, the “Bronze Tribe” an aggressive insect-like species who although it is unclear at this time seem to be under the command of the silver tribe and the “Iron Tribe” aka Humans, the most primitive of the tribes and enemies of the silver and bronze tribes. The anime starts with the princess of the iron tribe Deianeira traversing the far reaches of the galaxy looking to find her race’s savior or “Nodos” in order to tip the balance of power in the galaxy in their favor and to fulfill some long boring prophecy the most important parts of which is tha...
The 46 Laws of Anime – every single one is True!
2007-09-15 04:14:00
1. Law of Metaphysical Irregularity The normal laws of physics do not apply. 2. Law of Differentiated Gravitation Whenever someone or something jumps, is thrown, or otherwise is rendered airborne, gravity is reduced by a factor of 4. 3. Law of Sonic Amplification, First Law of Anime Acoustics In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there is no air to get in the way. 4. Law of Constant Thrust, First Law of Anime Motion In space, constant thrust equals constant velocity. 5. Law of Mechanical Mobility, Second Law of Anime Motion The larger a mechanical device is, the faster it moves. Armored Mecha are the fastest objects known to human science. 6. Law of Temporal Variability Time is not a constant. Time stops for the hero whenever he does something 'cool' or 'impressive'. Time slows down when friends and lovers are being killed and speeds up whenever there is a fight. 7. First Law of Temporal ...
Bokurano - kids, a big robot and a Japanese city
2007-09-11 17:22:00
Bokurano is the surprise hit (at least with me) of the anime that were released in spring. I will admit that back then I didn’t have high hopes for this anime and jumped to conclusions from just looking on the poster. Can you blame me? There are kids, a big robot and a Japanese city in the background…no explanation necessary why I just scrolled by, but for the benefit of my non-otaku brethren I will explain…half of everything entertainment related that comes out of Japan especially anime has “kids a big robot and a Japanese city”…if not all these things at least 2 out of the three. Basically though it was a choice between the 3 series that caught my eye that featured big robots/machines/mechs and at the time it was between Heroic Age, Gigantic Formula and Bokurano. I ended up choosing the other two and left Bokurano out and now Heroic Age and Gigantic Formula (I will be blogging about them soon) are not living up to my expectations….so guess which anime I decided to give a chance?.....
Claymore figure - some say Claire, others say Clare; I just want this Statu
2007-09-03 05:36:00
How do I prefer to spell it...Clare, cuz thats the spelling I am used to when watching the anime. This new Claymore figure/statuette will be debuting at the end of November. I remember being a action figure collector as a younger youngster but unfortunately I also liked to play with fire and dropping things from high places. If I ever manage to get my hands on any of these beauties though the only fire there is will be in the hearts of my friends while I skip around showing it off to them. I think if and when I can afford to I will become a collector of things like these, I can already imagine a room in my future house dedicated to all things otaku, yes geeky, I know! ^_^ [ First seen at Dannychoo ]
Claymore Parody - The Chaotic War of Circumcision in the North
2007-08-31 20:46:00
Yes I have found an excuse to post something Claymore related without spoiling too much until my full review which is coming at the end of the first season. Check out this funny parody of the events that took place in episode 18 and 19, it's twisted humour but it was funny. Link to Parody Claymore Image Gallery Claymore Halfway through 4 episodes left in the first season of Claymore so expect my review when the last episode airs at the end of September. Anime Ground - anime, manga and drama archive
2007-08-26 23:00:00
Anime Ground is one of the premiere distributing sources for high quality anime files. They are currently offering over 18 GB of content available for free via speedy direct download to anime fans. If you are an anime fanatic like me you know that torrents are the main lifeline to get our anime fixes and most of the major anime translation and distribution sites create torrent files which we then use to download anime for free. Torrents are not always very good though because they dependent on other users having the file you want to download and “seeding” it so that you the “leecher” can download it. Unfortunately at times when there are not many people with the torrent file you want torrents can be slow, time consuming and at times totally unusable. The free anime downloading services offered by animeground.com though are all direct download. Along with a free anime section AnimeGround offers over 5 terabytes of direct download anime for only $9.95/month! With my 5 megabit connecti...
Shigurui - First Impressions
2007-07-24 19:32:00
After watching just one episode of Shigurui I can already say that if the quality of this anime stays at such a high standard then this is one I will enjoy. I like medieval, samurai, historical, action anime with excellent stories and so far this year I have had two treats in Claymore and Guardian of the Sacred Spirit. I could not find much translated information on Shigurui but anime.fansub.tv had this information at a series synopsis; "One-armed Fujiki Gennosuke and blind Irako Seigen will fight each other in this match. Both are disciples of Iwamoto Kogan, who is known as Japan's... Please visit Jamaipanese.com for the rest of this entry
Zombie Loan - First Impressions
2007-07-10 22:12:00
I watched the first episode of Zombie Loan not too long ago, after looking though previews for anime premiering this summer I noted it is as one I'd be interested in. Claymore and Seirei no Moribito has been my favourites of the anime that debuted in spring. The plot evolves around Kita Michiru who has an unusual gift (which is a curse in my eyes), she posses "Shinigami eyes," which allow her to see dark rings around persons necks that are about to die or should be dead already. Michiru realizes that two of the boys in her school, Akatsuki Chika and Tachibana Shito both have rings around... Please visit Jamaipanese.com for the rest of this entry
