You seemed to be too fake-cutesy, with those ridiculous ever-blushing cheeks, but always flashing your legs at me. It was a creepy mixed signal thing that got on my nerves. And Nodoka, always bouncing her big chest like that....I thought, can you both really be so innocent as you're gazing into each other's eyes longingly? But fine, I set that aside. Then you really started taking off. You let your innate abilities show, like you were finally free to be yourself. Sure, I noticed a few things, like the way you suddenly throw your ass into my face, dress up to please the guys in bathing suits, yukata and maid costumes all while you're looking at Nodoka so intensely. 2009-09-20 06:56:00 Just finished Time of Eve, and though I am trying to temper my usual enthusiasm and usually wait a bit before posting about a series I really enjoyed, I just can't resist on this one. Consisting of six episodes clocking in around 15 to 17.5 minutes each (with the finale going 27 minutes and 44 seconds), Yasuhiro Yoshiura delivers a series that is hard to really find faults with1, is very thought-provoking, and features some excellent animation and well though-out camera work. I really want to collect this series on Bluray or DVD2. As it were, I did purchase each episode off of crunchyroll as they became available, mainly to have a copy that I can watch on the main entertainment setup rather than having to watch the stream on the computer. At this point, I consider Yasuhiro Yoshiura as a story-writer and anime director superior to Makoto Shinkai. 1. 2009-09-15 23:35:00 A little over a year ago, I began getting Ultra Jump magazine, when Hayate Cross Blade moved to there from its former home. One of the other series in the magazine was the manga Needless and, being the manga omnivore I am, I gave it a try. I picked it up in the middle of a fight between a bunch of girls, whose underwear the reader was shown repeatedly and a buxom woman with evil eyebrows, whose cleavage the reader spent a lot of time looking down. There were two older guys with silly facial hair, a bunch of people in the background and a lot of screaming. Now, about 14 months later, Needless is still in the middle of the very same battle, with the very same characters in the same locations and lots of screaming. So, when the anime was announced, you can bet I had no expectations. I read Gunslinger Girl when I was reading Dengeki Daioh, but was never really grabbed by it. Nor was Fate/Stay Night created for me. Maria Watches Over Us Anime: Season 3, Volume 3 (English)

It came into my mind to review "Ciao, Sorella"...and, I smiled. Because this particular OAV makes me smile. Every time. Smiled when I watched it raw, right after it was on Japanese TV, and again when I bought the Japanese collector's edition (complete with marble-pattered photo album) and again when I saw it subbed and yes, again when I watched it - twice - from my shiny happy boxset from Right Stuf/Nozomi.This is the last of the third season, the last OAV for the series to date. To write the novel, this was the first time Konno Oyuki had ever gone a overseas trip for reference - and it shows. This book reads like a tour of Italy in the company of Yumi, Yoshino and Shimako. Doing My Part for the Economy

First of all, what my girlfriend got me for my birthday1: I've always felt that Who Framed Roger Rabbit was one of the most amazing films to come out of an American studio. The book was one I've been looking forward to read for some time now. Then I had the following come in from Robert's Anime Corner Store: I've talked about Sword of the Stranger before and I've enjoyed it in the theater2; it ended up being my first Blu-ray purchase for myself (My first ever Blu-rays were the Japanese BDs of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and The Place Promised in Our Early Days that Astro gave me. I still need to return the favor somehow!). Continued collecting the excellent Moribito anime series, the Monster manga, and the Berserk manga; And I also completed my Tweeny Witches collection with the OVA3. We had a number of imaginary beasts at the event - there was a dragon carried by a half dozen people, and a hobby horse and a rag man. (Not to be confused with the comic hero The Ragman.) Rag men are ambiguous human figures, covered in rags, and, although historically they are some neighbor, the ancient tradition of guising means that once the costume is on, you have no idea who it is. Nor did I, as the costume was passed around to any number of people.Then I looked across the field and I noticed that the ragman was my wife. I recognized her knees. From a distance. Despite the fact that she, like almost everyone there was wearing jeans, it was an immediate recognition.And that, in a nutshell, is why I think that Episode 3, "A Cool, Refreshing Breeze" is the *most romantic* episode in the whole of the Maria Watches Over Us ...

There are also some bad things - things significant enough that they impact not only my own, but many other people's enjoyment of this series.We'll suffice to say that the loli in this series strikes me as problematic. It's not cute, or sweet, it's pandering and it is troubling. I spoke at length about some of these issues in my original review of this anime, so I won't beat it to death again. Instead, I would like to focus on the positive aspects of this series. Starting with the mandatory swimsuit (and in one case, no swimsuit) episode, followed by L.A. losing the last bits of sympathy we have for him, some random cosplay and buttock prodding by Nadie and Ellis, and - in my opinion - a rather Noir-like episode, closed with the trickster god part - which, on the second run, is probably one of my favourites. Otherwise, it seems that everyone stalks everyone, all with a generous spurt of fluff and cuddly on top - perfect after a tough week. ^-^ As far as the localization is concerned... well, I'm not really in the mood for nagging right now. ^-^ Fortunately, there is no more translating whole sentences as a single word, although some awkwardness (and a few blatant mistakes) awaits. Much of what is animated in Encore is from the 6th volume of the manga. If you have read and enjoyed these chapters, you are likely to enjoy them again as animation.If you don't care that Miu's antics can make demons in hell laugh, then you probably won't care so much. Many other people who are not me do. I review Aria as Yuri because the *other* group of fans who have no grip on reality insist on seeing all sorts of couples in the mostly all-female cast, since so often they talk to each other, or are in the same frame. They even touch once in a while, so clearly there's sex involved, in the LFB eyes of this group.I *do* enjoy imagining a relationship between Alicia and Akira. Five Centimeters Per Second GDM Login screen
2009-03-23 05:11:00 Being inspired, I ended making a GDM login theme from a 1080p Blu-ray rip of Five Centimeters Per Second: It is designed for my 1920x1200 resolution laptop running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. Modified it off of this Serial Experiments Lain theme. Source GIMP XCF file is available inside the tar.gz if you want to modify it. It's not the greatest, but it really didn't take much work. I added some sharpening and adjusted the colors and saturation from the source video screenshot, but that's about it. I'll probably make more from the various 5CM screenshots I have. I'll also want to get a few themes based off of The Place Promised in Our Early Days, too1. UPDATE: Found the SVG versions of the Ubuntu logo and name here, so I've modified the background to use those. Also touched up the colors and a few other details on the image.
