2009-03-11 16:59:00 There’s a teacher at my old school who’s spreading misinformation based on faulty science and fundamentalist nonsense. No, I’m not talking about Intelligent Design. What’s interesting is that this particular teacher would probably frown on such mindless stupidity. Yet she’s just as bad. She is telling students about the dangers of vaccinating babies and toddlers. “If you ever have children,” she tells her students, “don’t get them vaccinated. It could cause them to become autistic.” She then goes on to talk about her own stellar background as a single mom who decided she didn’t want “that” kind of child so she decided not to vaccinate her son. On some level, she should be allowed to raise her children in whatever manner she sees fit. What bothers me is that her little love child is putting my children and your children at risk. Whether it is writing about the various sporting events I have attended or trips I have taken, I feel like I can use this space as a forum to chronicle personal events and moments. Therefore, I am proud to announce a pending addition to our family...we?re going to get a kitten. Were you expecting me to write about something else?Sometime over the next few days, we?re heading to the local animal shelter to pick out a kitten. Perhaps we?ll see the Obama family there. Although I grew up with both dogs and cats, I have never had my own pet. Maybe I didn?t know any better since I was a kid and not responsible for buying pet supplies or paying for vet bills, but things seem much more complex than I remember. For example, prior to the spay/neuter procedure, we have the option of having pre-anesthetic blood testing of the pet in order to detect certain conditions. Barker spends most of his time running amuck, working on an ever-expanding novel, petting his twenty-five pound cat, and tutoring kids of all ages. He'd really like to see his life hit some sort ofroutine, but with the advent of a new girlfriend and total family chaos, he predicts that this won't happen for a while.
