New World Disorder: Patterns Of Psychopathy And Other Fractal Anomalies
2007-12-16 23:18:00 by Peter Zaza If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading. - Lao Tzu Patterns are all around us, in us, and part of every dynamic process that defines our behaviour and the world in which we live. They can be beautiful to look at, such as the microscopic view of a crystal, or they can be disturbing, like the image of prisoners lined up in orthogonal rows at a death camp. In this essay I'd like to talk about some patterns that exist both as the highest and lowest examples of man's creativity and ingenuity. On the one hand we can explore some fascinating iterations of our intellectual capacity through mathematical algorithms that bring forth intricately beautiful graphic images. Avalanche Uniform Anomalies: Sock Tape
2007-10-22 20:51:00 In case you didn't catch it the last five times I've brought it up, I'm a dues-paying member of the Uniwatchblog.com active roster of nerds. This is the back of my membership card. In my daily nerdtastic exploration of hockey uniform intricacies (I peruse the various NHL team sites for photos from each game), I've noticed something interesting on the lower limbs of some of Colorado's players. Normally, most players wear tape around their socks (or whatever you call those weird leg sleeves made by RBK) to keep them tight. The tape is almost always clear, as not to disrupt the look of the team's colored socks. For example, notice Scott Hannan on the left in this photo. Clear tape. But not all of the Avalanche players are following standard practice as far as leg taping goes. A few of them are opting for colored tape instead. You'll notice in the photo up and to the right that Ryan Smyth is wearing red sock tape. You can see his taping tec...
