No Smoking may have failed to impress the critics here however Anurag Kashyap’s film is winning accolades at the Rome Film festival is very pleased with the response.“The Italian reviews have been favourable. We got a standing ovation and a lot of compliments. I suppose Europe appreciates an attempt to do something new on screen far more than India. Hopefully, our country too would come around some day."Anurag admits No Smoking isn't an easy film to ingest. "I know it isn't a film that audiences will take to immediately. But if it's assessed properly and honestly it would help to put the work in a perspective for audiences."He feels biased criticism isn't conducive to encouraging a path-breaking cinema. "It just makes the filmmaker angry and forces him to retaliate."
No Smoking Movie Review
2007-10-26 11:20:00
Channel 4 reviews Anurag Kashyap’s No Smoking and here are some excerpts from the review."Nobody tells me what to do!" declares lady-killer K (Abraham) as he lights his umpteenth cigarette of the day. All that soon changes, though, when - under pressure from wife-cum-secretary Anjali (Takia) - he signs up for an unconventional rehabilitation programme to wean him off the evil weed.Guru Baba Bengali (Rawal) puts no stock on gentle persuasion, opting instead for a harsh regime of threats, intimidation and round the clock surveillance. Smoke just one fag and K's asthmatic brother will spend five minutes breathing fumes; inhale another and K will sacrifice two fingers. No wonder this cocksure Bombay businessman is soon reduced to a quivering wreck, prone to terrifying hallucinations and bone-chilling paranoia.

Anurag Kashyap Not a Black Friday again
2007-05-24 01:35:00
Anurag Kashyap: Not a 'Black Friday' again! When Anurag Kashyap started looking for a producer for No Smoking, he never expected the film to land in the hands of producer, Kumar Mangat. The reason's simple, "Mangat looked like the most conventional producer in Bollywood, I didn't imagine my script would interest him. I got a call from Vishal Bharadwaj (co-producer) who had seen my work and had faith in me. He asked me if I would like to make a film for him. For me it was neki aur pooch pooch. I jumped at the idea, narrated the script to them and they both lapped it up. In fact, they roped in John for the role," says Anurag. Yeah, like they say.sometimes you have all the luck, sometimes you don't. Everyday Friday, is not as black. What say, Anurag?

Go here for the full article.MANORAMA-SIX FEET UNDER, India’s first truly original noir set in a small town rajasthan..it reminds me of TAVERNIER’S “COUP DE TORCHON“..it reminds me of jim thomson and the way he looked at america..is how NAVDEEP “NOPI” SINGH looks at his lakhot..from the way its written, sparse, moody, from the protaganist’s POV, a failed pulp novelist, now contributing to manohar kahaniyaan, wanting to be a detective played by always brilliant Abhay Deol..getting himself into a situation he can’t get out of..the entire noir thriller set in a sleepy town..where neighbors are more interested in the other ones life..where everyone wants a break from daily mundanity..where every one has all the time and ever...
Anurag Kashyap Not Impressed By The Chopras Or The Censor Board!
2007-02-09 04:21:01
Hell hath no fury like a director scorned! Anurag Kashyap whose Black Friday will finally see a release tomorrow has no qualms talking about the dark side of Bollywood and we admire him for this!On Sanjay DuttI don't want to say anything about Sanjay Dutt's verdict -- maybe I want to be politically correct. I have lot of opinion on many things, but I have decided not toMy movie Black Friday doesn't have a Sanjay Dutt scene because Sanjay Dutt's story was not important to my film. He is important to the media. He is important to lot of people as he can sell things. I don't need Sanjay Dutt's story to sell Black Friday. It is about the blasts, not about the peripheral issues. When I say life is unfair, I don't mean that he [Dutt] should have been convicted under TADA [Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act].On the industryIt's like this: Everybody's film releases, but movies are stalled. Dhoom: 2 has a kissing scene, it has actors in bi...
