Ten Things Automobile Drivers should know about Motorcycles
2007-09-20 00:07:00 I was reading streetdirectory and i found this interesting article: Ten Things Automobile Drivers should know about Motorcycles 1. There are a lot more cars and trucks than motorcycles on the road, and some drivers don’t “recognize” a motorcycle; they ignore it (usually unintentionally). Look for motorcycles, especially when checking traffic at an intersection. 2. Because of its ...

Who says we haven?t done anything for the people of Iraq?
2007-08-07 16:51:00 Not so, I say. In fact, we’ve armed them. What could be more friendly? The Pentagon has lost track of about 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols given to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005, according to a new government report, raising fears that some of those weapons have fallen into the hands of insurgents ...
If Starcraft 2 means anything to you, then listen up!
2007-08-06 22:21:00 Yesterday my son proudly announced that he had made $60,000 that day. I only hesitated a second before I said, "Selling gold?" "Yep, and armor and colored capes." It opened up a whole conversation (led by him of course) about the details of life harrowing escapes in one of his online games. That's one of the things that comes with having teenaged boys; animated, detailed discussions about
Sex Is Not Like Anything Else
2007-08-06 11:39:00 When you find yourself asking things like, "Why do I think about Christina all the time?" this is the reason why. Sex simply is not like anything else. It is absolutely fundamental to human existence.A lot of people simply do not understand that sex is different from everything else. They will say things like, "Eating is completely natural and you do it every day without thinking about it. Sex is the same way! It?s just like every thing else! Do it and have fun and don?t worry about it!" That is an approach to life, but it is not true. Sex is not like everything else. Eating, for example, cannot create a new human life. Sex can. When someone tries to equate sex and eating, it is impossible to take them seriously.Having said all of that, there is a fifth fact of life that people often completely ignore. It is funny that people ignore it, because it is so simple and obvious. It is this: "The purpose of sex is to create a baby."

So in short ? lock anything non agency and float Fannie/Freddie
2007-08-03 20:33:00 So in short – lock anything non agency and float Fannie/Freddie First off, the current recommendation for locking any loan that is not agency is very prudent right now. What does this mean? Well anything that does not meet Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA or VA guidelines. The reason for this is that although the Fannie Mae 6.0 has begun to establish a little bit of traction, all bets are off for non conforming products as we are hitting another waive of programs disappearing and investors having difficulty in the secondary market with liquidity on their products (see AHM – American Home Mortgage as an example). We currently have some moving averages acting as a floor of support for bond prices and if this report misses we could see rates continue to improve. As for true Fannie/Freddie stuff the jobs report which has a high impact comes in tomorrow. Bob Ratliff - RE/MAX Advantage - Las Vegas, NV. - 702-807-5528 http://www.las-vegas-homes.biz-

'FREEDOM FIGHTER' IS ANYTHING BUT
2007-08-01 23:52:00 In yet another classic example of his extremism and irrational state, Jim Stachowiak of freedom fighter radio is calling for the shooting of police officers. Knowing that he will probably lie about this (like he lies about everything else), we took the liberty of securing a screen capture.Of course, he will probably deny it anyway. We invite our hundreds of readers to contact Blogger and inquire whether or not they wish to continue hosting someone who is now calling for the murder of Police Officers.I try to make it a point to avoid talking about this moonbat, but this especially egregious position cannot go unanswered. Do what you feel led to do. We are extremely saddened by such outrageous behavior by a supposed conservative. Most important to point out is that there are some extreme leftwing online griefers who are helping Jim and supporting his efforts to post such things. We can only believe that they are doing this to the detriment of conservatives who know how to argue without ...

What’s Shakespeare Got To Do With Anything? – Part 2
2007-07-31 22:08:00 I was thinking a little bit more about the infectious nature of bad leadership, and, while I may be stating the obvious here, probably the best validation of the concept can be found in an organization I know rather intimately – public education.Having already written extensively about my own experiences with poor administration, I’ll try not to repeat myself here, but if we consider institutions as microcosms of society, there can be little doubt about the ripple effect when “there is something rotten in the state of Denmark.†Whether at the board level or within the individual school, when teachers perceive inequity, corruption, or malfeasance (and believe me, those unsavory elements can be pervasive) but feel powerless to remedy the problems, the pernicious effect on morale is difficult to ignore. Some teachers will simply shrug their shoulders, close the door to their classroom and try to carry on doing the best job they can. Others will try to bring the wrongdoing to...
Real Estate Marketing: How to Look Busy Without Accomplishing Anything
2007-07-31 19:43:00 To my mind, the darkest levels of hell resemble an office cubicle where there’s no actual work to be done. Many of the traditional real estate marketing techniques ...
What’s Shakespeare Got To Do With Anything?
2007-07-31 02:21:00 Mentioning Shakespeare to a classroom of students is somewhat akin to telling them they are about to receive a massive dose of cod liver oil – something to be avoided at all costs. Maybe it’s true, as someone once said, that education is wasted on the young, because the older I get, the more I understand what the Bard has to offer to our fractured and troubled world. Today I would like to discuss only one small element of his relevance.Being something of a ‘political junkie’ may be one of the many reasons that I took such pleasure in teaching two of Shakespeare’s greatest works: Macbeth and Hamlet. But literary merits aside, the plays’ compelling qualities are in part informed by the Elizabethan view of the universe, one that we have long since abandoned, but which, at its core, perhaps helps to explain much of the political and moral malaise of our times. Known as “The Great Chain of Being,†this view, very concisely, stipulated that there was a natural order i...
Me it does not constitute anything
2007-07-30 11:24:00 I can probably forget our former friendship, or? You are simply so passed me I stood outside, with my family to Christmas laughed and joked. Then you come along run. Naturally with your friend, with whom you already are over one year together. You do not say hello - however to me. You wanted to ignore me. - keep running and simply. The sad at the thing is however that I would not have done it different one. I would have also simply continued to go. That became from friendship, which began in the kindergarten. We know each other now 16 years. After these 16 long years, in which we laughed and cried really together, we are now nothing more than acquaintance with common past. And me that does not make for anything out? I hear Gloria Estefans album Unwrapped and feel transferred into other worlds.

More police does not resolve anything
2007-07-26 15:08:00 Brown is showing his authoritarian tendencies again with his new border police force. The Times reports:Every person who leaves or enters Britain will be electronically screened under new measures designed to expose terrorists hiding among the travelling public, Gordon Brown announced yesterday.Profiles detailing passengers’ criminal records, employment histories and even spending patterns – derived from credit cards used to buy airline tickets – will be available to security agencies. The enhanced entry and exit checks will apply equally to British citizens and foreign travellers. Some of his other plans are slightly more sensible: –– A review by Lord West of Spit-head, the Home Office minister, of the way that shopping centres and sports venues are protected;–– Ring-fenced funding for armed police guarding gas supply sites;–– The linking of the UK watchlist of suspects to Interpol’s database of lost and stolen documents at a cost of £5 million;–– £70 millio...

Family Matters Before Anything Else
2007-07-16 10:51:00 I have read many personal articles and topics but one subject that catches me the most is about family. Family serves as the foundation of a successful society. But anyway, I believe that family really matters. Talking about family is a broad subject because there are many topics that links on this subject. But let me share you several topics that I found which you might be interested with:For Spouses: Make the End of Each Day Special1. Greet each other warmly. Stop whatever activity you are doing and walk to the door to greet your spouse. It might seem trite, but the effort will make both of you feel special and taken care of.2. Take a few minutes to find out how your spouse's day was. We are all extremely busy, but this small effort can make a huge difference. Instead of two strangers trying to get things done, you will be partners working together to create a warm family environment.3. Reconnect with your spouse after a day apart. Is there anything better than the "Sony W55" (former W70)?
2007-07-12 16:47:00 At least in this price range - I don´t think so!My sister bought one a few weeks ago and I got the chance to use it for 1 day. And what should I say... It´s the best digital camera I ever used. Some of the things that convinced me:It´s small and lightweight, has a large display, is easy to use and has a plain design. And the most outstanding factor, that persuaded me to buy one too when I have the money, is that, with the right settings, the pictures never become blurred! I tried it in my car. I held it out of the window at about 60 mph and waved it around. The result was amazing - top quality, pin sharp. In the next few days I´m planning to go to a shop and ask them if there´s anything better than this cam in this price category. I bet they´ll say "no"! I tried a lot of other cams before - Casio, Canon, FujiFilm,... They simply can´t keep up. My sister bought it for 199,-? (approximately 270 USD). What a hot deal!I´d be interested in your opinion. Is there a better camera in this pr...

ne regrette rien (do not regret anything)
2007-07-09 04:12:00 if the measure of a movie can be judged by the immediate reaction of its viewers, then a fellow patron summed it best with a single word: wow!the man's loud proclamation to the otherwise quiet and dimly lit cinema, being bathed in the glow of the rolling end credits on screen, was in response to la môme, the french biographical film based on edith piaf.piaf was france's greatest torch song chanteuse. an incomparable artiste, she lived her life with as much passion as she did when singing her evocative music, world-renowed signature songs such as la vie en rose and non, je ne regrette rien. in this movie, her tumultuous and fascinating life is explored on screen from her days as a forgotten child of a struggling street singer, living in her grandmother's brothel when she was barely ten years old, to the early beginnings of her career as a songstress and inevitable rise as one of modern times' enduring diva.spanning from 1915 to her death in 1963, piaf's tale is told in a non-lin...

Anything Else Is Green Building Amateur Hour
2007-06-29 22:36:00 I'd seen this before, but being a loyal Boing Boing reader, I just had to bring it here after Mark Frauenfelder pointed it out over at BB. What is it? Well, it's vertical farming! All the rage! The next big thing! Seriously, though, if this gets enough money to get off the ground, we're looking at a serious agricultural revolution, one that could effectively negate the food-cost inflationary effects of ethanol. The space-age concept, which could come right from a 1970s glorious future article on how space stations will thrive with farms onboard to generate oxygen and produce year-round fresh produce, offers the opportunity to unshackle agricultural production from a host of expensive and limiting factors. The potential upsides are almost too great to go into, but hey let's give it a shot. Mark at BB suggests reducing pollution, and I figure that can also be a plus in reducing ethanol-induced price hikes, but what else is there? Less climate sensitivity, for one, ...
How to Communicate Anything to Anyone
2007-06-27 02:00:00 How to CommunicateAnything to AnyoneFrom Essential Communications Skills Lab training course"A child repeats his communication to you several times. A man, obviously distracted and worried, refuses to share his uncertainties with his wife. A manager, clearly unhappy with an employee's performance, hesitates to broach the subject. Your teenager remains silent about her insecurities at school, until she brings home a D in algebra."In these and countless other events every day, our failures to relate boil down to our failure to communicate. Well-publicized studies tell us that certain communication situations elicit our most paralyzing fears, while our common sense tells us that this suffering is unnecessary. While "good communication" becomes a buzz phrase as accepted as "good motherhood," the wherewithal often remains a mystery. Why? Is it that we as a species are simply new at it? Are we saddled with insurmountable personality conflict in our individualistic society? Is some of the ...
