Mayan civilization is on of the greatest and mysterious civilization in the world. The movie recreates the rituals of Mayans and their culture. The movie is nonstop action and adventure, I would have loved the movie more if there was less blood, the heart ripping scene will definitely make you shiver. There was this hilarious scene at the beginning of the movie. The tribes men make fun of a guy who’s unable to make his wife pregnant, then one guy gives him a magic powder promising him that it would do the trick if he rub it on his penis before he had sex. So the guy goes home and try to apply his newly gained wisdom in to practice, but within minutes he comes out running crying for water to wash his penis, and his wife comes out and start washing her mouth, magic poison turns out to be chilly powder.

Apocalypto - Dir: Mel Gibson
2007-08-20 11:04:00 Mel Gibson has to be applauded for making a film with no spoken English, no known actors and about a culture that certainly isn't mainstream movie fodder. He remarkably pulls off the film in every respect. It's very absorbing and pacy, but can also be a painful watch due to some very heavy eye jarring violence. The story about the Mayan decline and their attempt to bring propsperity through the sacrifice of local indigenous tribes is fresh and very interesting subject matter. This is definitely a JM RECOMMENDS.
