Footsteps of Paul the Apostle 1 (Living Passages)
2008-06-05 09:22:00
Most people like to travel; like to learn from their journey, like to get out from their living place, and see what is going on at the other corner of the world. There are people working extreme hard so that they can afford to bag pack to some famous ancient places. China, India, Africa, you name it. People gain valuable knowledge when they step out from their homes. History has been overwritten by travelers from generation to generation so that we can just learn the knowledge sitting in front of our computers. If you have the chance to become one of them, where will you be visiting?Living Passages is an organization which specializes in Christ centered projects and events. It always partner with media companies, conference organizers and ministries. Its concept is to help everyone to learn and to achieve their goals along with the footstep of Bible through travelling, for example, travelling with Christian Cruises. Have you ever realize that Egypt in the Bible has so much meaning t...
Saint Matthias the Apostle

Tilman Riemenschneider (ca. 1460?1531)Saint Matthias, c. 1500?1505Limewood; H. 104.5 cm (41 1/8 in.), W. 32 cm (12 5/8 in.), D. 19 cm (7 1/2 in.)Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Skulpturensammlung Riemenschneider was active in Würzburg from about 1483 until 1531. He was one of the first sculptors to abandon polychromy (the application of colour to sculpture) on occasion. He made a conscious decision to leave visible his favoured material, limewood.St Matthias was present when St. Peter called on the faithful to select an apostle to replace the traitor Judas (Acts 1:15-26). He was a witness to the Resurrection (Acts 1:21-22). He was chosen by casting lots between him and Joseph. After selection he was identified as apostle with the other eleven apostles.
Larkin: the apostle of labour solidarity
2008-04-16 09:57:00
In Dublin, 61 years ago, March 1947, an immense crowd of people, 200,000 of them, many of the men bare-headed in freakishly Arctic weather, marched behind the coffin of Jim Larkin. Larkin was the founder of the modern Irish labour movement. He is the greatest figure in Irish labour history. James Connolly, Larkin's partner between 1910 and 1914, was far more clever and far better educated, but it was Larkin who touched the workers of the slums with the holy fire of righteous indignation, and ignited them in revolt. Larkin was a union organiser in Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin and in the USA — where he was jailed in the aftermath of World War One. He was a founder of the US Communist Party and a — none too competent — leader of an Irish communist party in the '20s. A man of contradictions, he was both a practising Catholic and a member of the Executive of the Communist International! He never abandoned revolutionary socialism. Dublin's workers elected him to the Dail...

New LDS Apostle: Elder D. Todd Christopherson
2008-04-05 18:01:00
I've been really excited about General Conference this year for the last few months. It's been a long time since we've sustained a new prophet, and the Solemn Assembly is such a spiritual experience. I'm happy to sustain our new Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, Thomas S. Monson. It is, for me, an interesting experience to stand, alone in my bedroom, and sustain the prophet and leadership of the

For the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, Apostle
2008-02-22 20:15:00
It may seem odd to celebrate an inanimate object, but there is in fact a very good reason for today's feast day. The phrase ex cathedra, which we use in reference to the pope's infallible prerogative, means "from the chair." So, the chair of St. Peter represents the authority given to him and to his successors by Jesus Christ. It is also a symbol of unity and orthodoxy, since it is in communion with the pope that Christians are united in faith and practice. Finally, supposing that we have the actual chair that St. Peter used, we are no longer talking about some ordinary piece of furniture. We're talking about a relic from a saint, an object that mysteriously mediates his continued presence among us. So, when we celebrate this feast day we are showing our veneration for Peter, the Rock and Vicar of Christ. For more on the Chair of St. Peter and papal authority, see the following links:Liturgical Calendar: Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, ApostleNew Advent: Chair of PeterModern Catho...

Junias
2007-12-12 22:51:00
What about Romans 16:7 where Junias is referred to as an Apostle by Paul? If a woman can be an Apostle like Paul himself, isn?t that a leadership role? Junias, the youthful one was a Christian woman at Rome, mentioned by Paul as one of his kinsfolk and fellow prisoners. You cited Romans 16:7 which ...
Apostleship
2007-11-13 20:34:00
In my short pilgrimage as a believer I’ve seen a few things. I thank God for discernment though. What would we do without spiritual discernment? Where would be we be as believers? I remember going to a few conferences  and being extremely disturbed even early on about the term “Apostle” being used among select Christian ...

2007-09-18 22:36:00
In this message we begin with chapter 1, where we have Paul immediately establishing his Apostleship. It's important to understand why he felt the need to do so. We discuss that Paul had a unique message, differing from that of the twelve.
Ron Paul: Libertarian Apostle
2007-09-13 14:33:00
Pittsburgh City Paper article link Ron Paul: Libertarian ApostleIs Pittsburgh native Ron Paul the champion that libertarians have been seeking? Or just an Internet flash-in-the-panBY CHARLIE DEITCHGrowing up in Green Tree, Dr. Ron Paul was a milkman, making deliveries to houses from his family's local dairy operation. It's not hard to believe, even looking at him now at age 72: You can picture his mature face and skin-on-bone physique clad in the trademark white pants with a thin black leather belt, white shirt and white hat. And in any case, it's much easier to imagine him delivering glass bottles to families in Dormont and McKees Rocks than delivering a radical, energizing political message to the masses. But there he was, standing in the conference room of the Cranberry Township Sheraton on Aug. 3.. "Like me, I'm sure that you worry about your personal liberties," Paul told a capacity crowd. "We believe that America was designed to promote liberty and self-relia...

St. George likely named after an LDS apostle
2007-07-11 02:09:00
This was an interesting article from the Deseret News. Who is "Saint George"? Located in the heart of Utah's Dixie, the city of St. George is currently one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation. But who is the city named after, and why is "Saint" affixed to this name? Most historians agree on the same name origination for St. George, Utah, but there is an alternate version out there
The German Apostle - Dieter Uchdorf
2007-07-04 15:17:00
I first heard Elder Urchdorf speak while I was serving a mission in Germany. At that time, I had a strong impression that he would someday be an Apostle. In fact, just before he was sustained, my grandma asked me who I thought the next two Apostles would be. I responded that I felt they would be Elder Bednar and Elder Uchdorf! Anyway, the press about the church in Europe isn't always friendly,
The New Testament :: RE: Difference Between a Disciple & an Apostle

Author: Eric Subject: Difference Between a Disciple & an Apostle 2Posted: Thu Jun 28, 2007 8:31 pm (GMT -4) The Difference Between a "Disciple" and an "Apostle" -- Part 2 Rev. Sam Harris This question deserves two responses. Last time, we discussed the meaning of a "disciple;" now let’s take a look at the "apostle." Let me remind you of the definitions given in the previous article. 1. Disciple: Greek—mathetes, a learner or pupil. In the New Testament, it is one who accepts the instruction given to him and makes it a part of his daily living and conduct. 2. Apostle: Greek—apostolos, someone who is sent, ambassador, messenger. As we will see, Jesus chose 12 men to be His witnesses with authority. As we discussed last time, a "disciple" is a learner and follower of a teacher. The 12 men chosen by Jesus followed and learned from Him. As you read through the New Testament, you find these two words used inter...
The New Testament :: Difference Between a Disciple & an Apostle

Author: Eric Subject: Difference Between a Disciple & an ApostlePosted: Thu Jun 28, 2007 8:20 pm (GMT -4) The Difference Between a "Disciple" and an "Apostle" -- Part 1 Rev. Sam Harris This is such a good question that I am going to answer it with two articles, one now and one in the next article. I will define the terms and then we will take an in-depth look at how they are used in Scripture. In general terms, a disciple is a follower of a teacher. Most of us can look back over our school years and point to one or two teachers who had an impact on our lives and education. We attempted to absorb all that they had to teach us. Th...

Inspired by a two-month-long trip to Cuba, Broken Social Scene lead guitarist Andrew Whiteman founded Apostle as a means of exploring his new found love for Spanish music, particularly the Cuban guitar, or tres. Joining them are the 90's power-pop quartet Sloan (who headline) and Winnipeg's country-music wielding Duhks. More info below. Read More...Digg this | Email to a friend | Reddit

APOSTLE OF HUSTLE - "National anthem of nowhere"
2007-05-11 23:45:00
Tombs of the Apostles
2007-05-11 09:10:00
Santi Apostoli, Rome Catholic News Service has an article on Tom Bissell, a highly regarded travel and nonfiction writer, who is at the American Academy in Rome this year working on a book on the tombs of the Twelve Apostles.Actually, as Bissell pointed out, it's 13 Apostles -- Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot."St. Matthias, like most of the apostles, is known mostly through legend and tradition. His relics were said to have been brought from Jerusalem by St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, and given in part to an abbey church in Trier, Germany. So Bissell made a pilgrimage to Trier and spent the day with a priest, who happened to be named Matthias."This priest had a really beautiful way of looking at it," Bissell said. "He said, 'I don't really know if these are Matthias' bones, but this church is here, and I am here because someone very early on believed these were the relics of one of the apostles, and that's a tradition worth preserving.'"Bissell sa...

Apostleship Means Being Sent
2007-02-05 14:00:06
Mark 6: 7-13 Heb. 12: 18-19, 21-24 Ps 48: 2-3ab,3cd-4,9,10-11 If any place will not receive you and they refuse to listen to you, leave there, and shake off the dust on your feet in testimony against them. (Mark 6:11) This mission that Christ has given Is a journey to spread God?s Word; With the hope of life in heaven, What else do we need for reward? Jesus called the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. And he said to them, “Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to listen to you, leave there, and shake off the dust on your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them....
