Appalachian State Gunman
2008-03-04 01:43:00
Appalachian State University locked down all campus buildings for more than an hour Monday as authorities searched for a man who was seen carrying a gun nearby. Officials lifted the lockdown shortly after 6:30 p.m., after no further sightings of the suspect were reported. “Both Appalachian State police and Boone police have been consulting, and they think ...
Steelers vs. Patriots: Tomlin says this isn't Appalachian State vs. Michiga
2007-12-05 21:40:00
By ALAN ROBINSON, AP Sports WriterDecember 4, 2007PITTSBURGH (AP) -- This game has been on the Pittsburgh Steelers' minds for weeks and, finally, they can talk about it.The Steelers (9-3) are convinced they can ruin New England's perfect season, and they were secretly rooting for the Patriots (12-0) to stay unbeaten so they would have the chance to do exactly that Sunday in Foxborough. They know something about stopping New England streaks, too, having halted a record Patriots run only three years ago and, with it, the possibility of an undefeated season.Pittsburgh almost didn't get this chance to keep New England out of the record book, as the Patriots were forced to stage a desperation rally to beat Baltimore 27-24 on Monday night. The week before, the Patriots trailed in the fourth quarter of a 31-28 win over Philadelphia. Now, the Steelers could be the best team standing in the way of the Patriots and the NFL's first 16-0 regular season. After Pittsburgh, the Patriots play the...
Appalachian State Ain't No Joke

Anyone remember Appalachian State?? The team that upset #5 Michigan in Week 1 of this season.  Well, that was no fluke.  The Moutaneers of Appalachian State were crowned the Champs of the Southern Conference after beating the now 9-4 Eagles of Eastern Washington in Kidd Brewer Stadium in NC,
What in the name of Appalachian State is going on?
2007-11-08 19:48:00
Exhibition games are supposed to be tune ups. Not only are they supposed to be tune ups, they usually result in an embarrassing score for the losing team. So when Grand Valley State beat #8 Michigan St in one of these games, the collective gasp was deafening (I know, that doesn’t make sense, just work ...

The Appalachian State upset on Michigan

Hawaii’s Loss Is Appalachian State’s Gain
2007-09-06 07:03:00
I don’t mean to rub salt in the wounds of the Wolverine faithful—well, actually I do—but Michigan could have easily avoided last week’s loss to Appalachian State. All they had to do was agree to play Hawaii. Before he even spoke to Appalachian State, Michigan AD Bill Martin contacted the University of Hawaii about this season’s opening game. Martin and Hawaii AD Herman Frazier are old friends and Martin offered Hawaii $600,000 to come to the Big House. It seemed like a done deal but Lloyd Carr eventually nixed the game, most likely because he feared it would make his team’s schedule too tough. Nobody can accuse Carr of dodging tough non-conference opponents—the Wolverines play Notre Dame and Oregon this year—but in retrospect he probably should have just agreed to the Hawaii game and prayed his team didn’t get upset. By trying to protect his team Carr ending up allowing the crushing loss he was trying to prevent. All of this ...

Message Board Marauder - Michigan Edition
2007-09-04 15:32:00
Tuesday's at DOTD mean that it's time to peruse the sports message boards and see what fans are spouting off about. Today, in light of the epic meltdown by Michigan's football team (which we saw, thanks to DirecTV), led by "head coach" Lloyd Carr, we will try and capture the true voice of Wolverines fans. And they're pretty pissed.(Disclaimer: DOTD has never particularly liked Lloyd Carr. While we respect Michigan, Carr always came across as a grumpy, pompous old bastard. It has always amazed us that he got the players he did when they could probably be playing for someone who A) looked like he enjoyed breathing, and B) didn't have the personality of a Mr. Burns/Grinch evil clone.)WingedHelmet.com: "F*ck, i think I'm going to get drunk...and F8ck the first drunk slut that will have me...night." - Ufers SpiritMLive.com: "YOU People - I'm talking, of course, to those of you who will 'look on the bright side,' say 'it's all ok,' contend 'we're still playing for the Big Te...

You're all now very familiar with Appalachian State, the true David to Michigan's Goliath, the owners of one of the biggest upsets in the history of college football. Their name has been all over the news the past two days. Michigan paid App. State $400,000 to play them in the Big House, and it
A Job Well Done Appalachian State
2007-09-03 04:27:00
With all the stories going around about the Appalachian State Mountaineers beating Michigan Saturday, none really give the credit to the Mountaineers. They came to this game well prepared and played very good football, offensively and defensively. Everyone is saying they cannot believe how bad

Appalachian State Upsets Michigan: College Football
2007-09-02 04:10:00
A Big Big Upset! Very Upsetting. Cheerleader very mad Sept. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Julian Rauch kicked a 24-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining as Appalachian State upset fifth- ranked Michigan 34-32 in the season opener for both teams. Appalachian State's Corey Lynch then blocked a field goal attempt in the final seconds to preserve the upset at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Armanti Edwards threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score for the Mountaineers, who've won the past two national championships in college football's second division and have a nation's-best 15-game winning streak. ``This is just a crowning achievement for them right here,'' Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore said in an interview with the Big Ten Network. ``It won't be more important than those last two national championships, but it certainly ranks in there close.''

Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32 As an Ohio State fan, I had to post this. Congratulations to the Appalachian State Mountaineers who have pulled off arguably the biggest upset in college football history by beating the No. 5 ranked Michigan Wolverines. This is not a good look for the Big Ten! I actually felt sorry for ...
Appalachian State Defeats The University of Michigan Wolverines 34-32!!!
2007-09-01 21:42:00
Today was the greatest upset in College Football History. Appalachian State defeated The University of Michigan Wolverines 34-32, at Michigan's Season Opener at the "Big House." This was nothing but a total embarrassment for the Michigan Wolverines. They should have won by a landslide. It is time for Lloyd Carr to be fired or resign. End of Story. When he recruits the greatest athletes and football players in the Country and continues to show up to the game ill-prepared (career bowl record of 5-7. Furthermore he has gone 1-4 in the past five years in bowl games), it is time for him to go.There is no excuse for losing to a B-level team when the University of Michigan was ranked #5 in the Country coming into this game. Now their season is over before it started. Consider this an open thread.Related EditorialsUFC 74: Randy Couture Defeats Gabriel Gonzaga !! (Open Thread)
