2009-02-19 05:57:00 I had a class tonight (Managerial Leadership) that was taught by a guest speaker, Tim Sullivan from Madison Dearborn. It was a great lecture overall and picked up on transitional leadership elements between the military and private sector, among others. One point that stuck out was regarding team dynamics. The research he brought up concluded that a team’s outcome is not necessarily dictated by the best performer, but more likely by the worst. This is sort of a weakest link analogy. Essentially, there were three team members you wanted to watch out for (or more importantly want to avoid being): 1) The Jerk - condescending, sarcastic, etc. 2) The Slacker - feet on the desk, late to meetings, etc. 3) The Pessimist - bad attitude, always negative, etc. Basically, if one or more of these characters are adamant in a given team structure, then a negative performance is more than likely. 2008-02-20 00:49:00 ultimo/ultimate**I apologize in advance for any incoherency here. I am on my way to loopy loopy land after (yet another) 1/2 day dentist appointment today. I went in for a crown repair and came out minus a tooth - having an unexpected (and not so comfy) extraction. I had to finish out my day at work, but came home to crash. I could kiss the makers of Percocet!Lasagna. My mom used to make it look so easy. Naturally, I thought making lasagna would be in my blood. I am Italian. My mom made it often. And, I am Italian!Well - I was wrong. I have tried....and tried. Edible...but U-G-L-Y. I finally resided to the fact I just can't do it. I threw in the towel. Almost handed in my Italian card.Then, I watched my by Tyler this weekend. It was his Ultimate Lasagna episode. I so wanted to throw my hat into the lasagna ring again.The preparation was okay. 2008-01-30 13:07:00 Love never ceases to amaze me. In the halcyon days of our relationship, when my HH and I were still in early stages of romantic life, I was sideswiped with a doozy of a diagnosis that caused me to change my diet drastically for what turned out to be quite a long time.  Still fiercely besotted back then, my HH was perfectly willing to accommodate my strange and singular dietary restrictions: no sugar, no wheat, no eggs, no dairy, no anything fermented (which included my half of those bottles of wine we’d grown accustomed to consuming with dinner), no caffeine, and on and on—for about three more paragraphs.  As a couple who habitually dined out 2 or 3 times a week plus brunch on Sundays (one advantage of meeting when we were too old for kids is the increased discretionary spending), this new diet forced us to alter our regular routine, um, considerably. All this, and my HH was still happy to comply, and even join me as I consumed cooked amaranth and tahini, tamari-m... |
