Aqsa Parvez : 16 Year Old Killed in Family Dispute Over Hijab
2007-12-16 04:05:00
The recent tragic killing of sixteen year old Toronto student, Aqsa Parvez, was in large part a consequence of a clash of cultures. Aqsa was strangled, allegedly by her father, after ongoing family tensions relating to her wish to live her own life, including dropping the wearing of the hijab.Efforts by some in the Toronto media to try and pass this off as just another domestic tragedy is fairly typical of the understatement that accompanies tragedies of this sort. Apparently fear of giving offense takes precedence over stating difficult truths. Information that was truly pertinent with respect to what led to the tragedy came from Aqsa's friends and associates.I strongly recommend this excellent article by Natasha Fatah. Ms Fatah addresses a number of the key issues surrounding this case in a clear and forthright fashion.Typical of the cop-out posture are feminists and women's advocacy groups who refuse to take a position that addresses patriarchal Muslim attitudes and the oppres...
The Courage of Aqsa Parvez
2007-12-14 22:33:00
Islam kills girls and women all the time. Kills them, beats them, cuts off their clitorises. So it came as no surprise that Aqsa Parvez had the life strangled out of her.         When 16 yr. old Mississauga high school student, Asqa Parvez, stood up to her fundamentalist Islamic father, Muhammed Parvez, over his insistence that she wear ...
Why Is This Girl Dead??? Aqsa Parvez and Islamic Double-Speak
2007-12-14 14:52:00
The Murder of Aqsa Parvez and Islamic Double-Speak Aqsa Parvez, 16, murdered by her father over an ISLAMIC head scarf. Sadly, it’s all too typical. Another Muslim woman — this one very young — is dead at the hands of a father, brother, uncle, gang or Islamic government, with the typical in-your-face double-speak that we are not ...
Aqsa Parvez - Why?
2007-12-12 03:39:00
If you haven’t heard about this girl’s story, search the web for “Aqsa Parvez”. I understand the plight of a parent with a defiant child, but… There is simply no explanation for this kind of behavior from a responsible parent, no matter to WHAT belief system s/he ascribes. It sickens the soul to think that anyone of ...
Al-Aqsa Masjid, Jerusalem
2007-08-11 14:57:00
Masjid Al-Alqsa also known as Dome of the Rock of Jerusalem is the beautiful shrine built over the rock more than 1300 years ago by the Muslim Umayyad Caliph AbdulMalek bin Marwan. It was completed in 691 AD, 6 years after building commenced. It is the second oldest masjid in Islam after the Ka'ba in Makkah, and is third in holiness and importance after the Masjid in Makkah and Medina.Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is an Arabic name which means the Farthest Masjid. To understand its name, and its importance, it must be remembered that the roots of Islam began in the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia today). Ten years after the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) received his first revelation, he made a miraculous night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and to the Seven Heavens on a white flying horse called Al-Buraq El-Sharif in 623/624 AD. During his interval in Jerusalem, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stopped to pray at the rock (now covered by the golden Dome), and was given the commandment to pray five time...

Jerusalem?s Al-Aqsa mosque gets new Saladin pulpit
2007-02-03 06:07:01
JERUSALEM - A replica of a wooden pulpit given to Al-Aqsa by Saladin after his 1187 conquest of Jerusalem has been installed in the mosque, almost four decades after the original was destroyed in a fire, a reporter said Wednesday. The pulpit was transported overnight Tuesday from Jordan, where it was constructed over a period of four years. It was transported under security, with several streets around the Old City of Jerusalem closed and a helicopter hovering overhead, Israeli police said. “The burnt pulpit was destroyed into pieces,” said Adnan Husseini, a senior official in the Waqf, which oversees Muslim religious sites. “The new one was constructed on the model of the original. Once the plans were drawn up, it took four years to construct it,” Husseini said. The cost of the new pulpit stood at 1.5 million dollars (1.15 million euros), donated by Jordan’s King Abdullah II, said Luay Dabbur, a deputy dean at Jordan’s Balqa Applied Sciences Un...
