Russia: Fresh Protests Challenge Putin and His Loyalists ? TIME
2011-12-27 17:07:00 The answers to be heard at Saturday’s rally were as diverse as the crowd itself, but they could be distilled to one potent Russian word: dostala, which means, “I’m sick of it.” They were sick of not being given a choice of their country’s leaders. They were sick of corruption and political paternalism. Unlike many ...

Arab world sees U.S. in poor light: poll
2008-04-15 00:55:00 With a headline like that, I'd be worried. But then you get to the meat of it all: Eight out of 10 Arabs have an unfavorable view of the United States and only six percent believe the U.S. troop build-up in Iraq in the last year has worked, said a poll of six Arab countries released on Monday. The poll by the University of Maryland and Zogby International, also found most Arabs did not see U.S. foe Iran as a threat and they sympathized more with Hamas in the Palestinian Territories than U.S.-backed Fatah. When you sympathize more with a terrorist group, I don't care who you are, your opinion means shit to me. Of course, they'd be outraged if the majority of Americans approved of a group of people who hid amongst the civilians and murdered innocent people. Then of course, we would expect the rest of the world to gang up on us because it's the "in" thing to do, and has been for years. But once things go south, who do they call? Americans, that's who. So, if you ...

Indonesia eyes more investment from Arab world
2008-02-13 08:57:00 Indonesia expects a downpour of investments from the Middle East following the creation of a massive fund by oil kingpins in the Islamic region, local press said Wednesday. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), considered to be a powerful lobby group in the country, estimated around 1 billion U.S. dollars of windfall oil proceeds from the Middle East would be invested in Indonesia this year. Confronted with an unfavorable business climate in the United States and Europe -- countries suspicious of funds from the MiddleEast as associated with terrorist networks, many Arab businessmen feel more secure investing their money in Asia. With oil prices hovering above 83 dollars per barrel, Middle Eastern countries have been enjoying windfall profits as their main business activities are primarily related with the production of oil and petrol. Jakarta's special envoy to the Middle East, Alwi Shihab, has said the government expected to secure as much as 5 billion d...

Racism in the Arab World
2007-11-28 09:54:00 A heated debate that spawned from the ‘Beauty of Salamo Alaikom’ post from the always interesting Rasha aka The Caller got me seriously thinking about some things that perhaps haven’t been discussed enough. I was of the opinion that Egypt at least is a very racist country because I’ve personally seen how dark people get treated here, walking down the street and getting called ‘ya samara’ by strangers and MANY police hassles. Add to that the fact that it is very very rare when a fair family would marry their daughter to a black man, no matter how eligible he is. However, I must admit that my experience is still limited so I am a bit shaken by her objections, which do sound valid to be honest. So anyone care to jump in? I have copied the last bit of the debate to carry on here, so it’s time for everyone to contribute with their opinions and experiences from Egypt or any Arab country.

Sex in the Arab World
2007-10-31 01:46:00 by IahFor many years, I've worked and fucked around the Middle East and North Africa, so I can speak with authority about sex among Arab men and boys. When I was at school, an older boy said that Arabs fucked a woman for children, a goat for necessity but a boy for pleasure. It was several years later that I began to realize the profound truth of this analysis. Almost every Arab I've met has been bisexual. It is considered "normal" for boys and teenagers to provide sexual gratification for their elders, but when they themselves grow up and take a wife (or wives) their passive role is ended. It is not considered "normal" for a mature man to play the woman, but it is understood and accepted, albeit with a certain amount of contempt. This is where the Arab demand for money is often misunderstood: they are not by nature hustlers but they have to establish in their own mind when they have sex with men that they are men selling their services with the same honesty as a man toiling in the f...

Let's talk sex in the Arab world
2007-05-10 12:50:00 Dr. Heba Kotb is tackling a taboo in the Arab world unlike anyone else: She's talking about sex openly on a show broadcast all over the Middle East. It's a big first in these parts of the world, and Kotb leaves little uncovered. "We talk about masturbation ... sex over the Internet. We talk about sex and Ramadan. We talk about the wedding night," said Kotb. Entitled "The Big Talk," the show is broadcast once a week over a satellite channel from Cairo, Egypt. It took the 39-year-old mother three years of negotiations to get her show on the air. And a main reason she succeeded is that she talks only about sex allowed in the Quran -- sex between husband and wife.

Arab world being 'strung along' by US, Israel
2007-03-21 16:24:00 Jordan's independent Al Ghad published a cartoon criticizing the changing conditions and principles the US-led West keeps imposing on Palestinians and Arabs in the Middle East process. Titled: "On the Shore of Principles," the lampoon depicted a tall, Arab-looking brunette at the beach, standing with her hands on her waist. Clad in a classic black bikini, the upper part of the woman's bathing suit had "Land for" written across it, while "Peace" appeared on the lower part. The woman was shown talking to a blond, muscular man wearing a T-shirt bearing the US flag, with the words "International Community" written on his shorts. The man was holding up a hanger with another, more skimpy bikini, trying to sell it to the woman. One side of the second bikini top read, "Renouncing Terror," while the other read, "Recognizing Oslo," in reference to the Palestinian-Israeli interim peace accords. The lower part of the skimpy bikini read, "Recognizing Israel." The man, pointing at the bikini in...
