Del Noah & The Mt Ararat Finks - Blower Explosion [1998]
2008-10-12 10:05:00
Paying an homage to the vintage style of Spike Jones and Link Wray, Del Noah and the Mt. Ararat Finks' additional hybrid of surf and cocktail jazz debuted in 1991 in their native Long Beach, California. With a quirky sound comparable towards the B-movie soundtracks of the 1950 to the 1960, the line-up of Brentelli Del Meltormayo (vocals/ guitar), Vincenzo Del Eden-Rococo (sax/ flute), Blairich Von Damoclese (keys/ guitar/ marimba), Mudhammad Surphraaka-Jabbar (drums) and Eraqui Warlordius (bass) released their self-titled debut EP in 1994 through Dionysus Records. Skunk Records eventually contributed in Del Noah and the Mt. Ararat Finks first full-length ...'Blower Explosion four years later. I met Aliza (not sure that's how it's spelled) at Yerevan State University and when she introduced herself, I asked her if it was here first time here."Oh, no. I'm Armenian." Armenia, via Berkeley, Ca. She's a former editor now doing her MA thesis on Caucasus media.Aliza's parents (whose own parents presumably fled the 1915 genocide and concentration camps) met in Syria and then, like many diaspora, ended up in the US. Or they met in the US but are both Syrian-born. Can't remember which--it was 102 degrees and my memory melts in that kind of heat. But here's the fascinating thing to me: For Aliza, being in Yerevan was like a village for her--despite that she was born in the US and has no living relatives in Armenia at all. Nonetheless, it seems like family for her among the diaspora that also visit.I sat with Aliza at the ex-pat bookstore one afternoon and watched as she greeted and chatted--in Armenian--with a good 60 percent of the people that came and went.

Believe or not, Istanbul is a rock'n roll city. There are a lot of places you can find and enjoy. If you like jazz, there are jazz cafes, of course authentic ones, anything you like you can find it. Travel websites are very useful to me, just like topworld.com many things about the world especially the country where I enjoy most, Turkey, have been revealed in that site. I am very amazed with the culture and tradition inside Turkey, it is a place where the aggressive but friendly people lives. One thing that keeps on flashing back in my mind, was the adventure of my uncle Teody to Mount Ararat. He know that in his age he cannot manage to go on top of it, but once he have tried, fortunately he proved himself that he was right, he really can’t do it… hehe He said “It was so COLD out there every nerve in my body were freezing, so all I did was to take pictures of the famous landscape in Turkey. May be you can try it yourself, of course not only taking pictures, haha.. but...
