Arcade Fire working on new Cameron Diaz 'Donnie Darko' movie
2008-05-16 09:18:00 Cool Canadian rock outfit Arcade Fire are recording the soundtrack for a new Cameron Diaz film by Donnie Darko writer and director Richard Kelly. It’s the first film soundtrack they’ve ever written and they’re working with producer Richard Dravs, who’s just finished mixing Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida. Called Box, the film is a creepy thriller based on a 1970 Richard Matheson short story and Twilight Zone episode about a couple who find a box with a magic button. Every time they push the button, they receive a million dollars – but someone, somewhere, dies. AdvertisementAlso featuring Enchanted star James Marsden as Cameron’s husband, the film is currently in post-production and is due out later this year. The Brit Award and Grammy-nominated five-piece Arcade Fire, who often play with a full orchestra, have released two studio albums to date, Funeral and last year’s Neon Bible, which hit number two in the UK charts.

The DONNIE DARKO director is currently working on THE BOX, which stars CAMERON DIAZ and JAMES MARSDEN. For the soundtrack, the band will work with producer Markus Dravs who was involved with COLDPLAY's latest offering VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS. The group's involvement with the film had been kept under wraps until Markus revealed all on the internet. A statement on his website reads: "Having finished COLDPLAY's forthcoming album 'Viva La Vida' - now off to Canada to work with ARCADE FIRE on a soundtrack for the forthcoming Richard Kelly film." THE BOX is currently being edited and will be released later this year, reports Angry Ape. Very easy to forget that they've only released two full-length CDs.2. The performance was delivered with enormous conviction, enthusiasm and energy.3. Arcade Fire is earnest to the extreme... if they weren't so good you might make fun of this....but not here. 4. It says pay attention this is important. 5. The instrumentation (French horns, clarinets, violins, bells, accordions, combined with traditional rock and roll instrumentation creates a unique sound. They sound different. That's old news. But their sound is even more unique live.6. Savvy and sophisticated light show. 7. They need to mix Win Butler's voice up above the band. Very hard to understand the lyrics.
