Football Hall of Famer Art Monk Boasts in the Lord
2008-08-14 20:48:00
Recently, Art Monk (along with fellow Washington Redskin Darrell Green) was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Instead of boasting in his achievements, however, Art Monk took the opportunity to boast in Jesus. Here is an excerpt from his Hall of Fame induction speech (HT: CJ Mahaney). …as great as this honor is, it?s ...

[editor's note, by Skin Patrol] Big news, someone needs to make a post about it, I haven't the time right now. Congrats to Art Monk and Darrell Green. WOW what a banner day! I can't contain my sheer joy! Tip of the Cap to all the Monk supporters who fought the good fight. Green, the fastest man ever, shut down corner, ALL 90's DECADE TEAM rightly in on the first go around. Skins fans, with all this coaching mess going on I can't think of anything better to happen. I'm so happy...guess who's road-trippimg to Canton this spring? THIS GUY! HTTR
Art Monk : NFL HOF snub
2008-01-09 05:06:00
Hello all, I have not posted anything specifically sports related and here is a topic that has bothered me for some time.  On this day when the Baseball Hall of Fame announced its class of 200... more from OldSchool...
It doesn't appear as though Rick Gosselin will vote for Art Monk
2007-09-29 19:29:00
This is old news, from a Q&A at the beginning of the month, but it's worth responding to. Months ago I emailed Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News to engage him in a discussion about Art Monk and the Hall of Fame. Rick had apparently been verbally assaulted or something by Redskins fans and thus refused to discuss the matter, essentially saying that he's made a decision not to discuss it with fans. Fine. Hat tip to Art Monk Hall of Fame Campaign, which does outstanding work, and always tracks down pertinent media articles on Art. From a Dallas News Rick Gosselin Q&A: From e-mail: When will Art Monk get in the Hall of Fame, and why isn't he there now? Chuck Rick Gosselin: The wide receiver queue is getting jammed up now with Monk and Andre Reed already there and both Cris Carter and Tim Brown soon to enter. We've had lively discussions about Monk and he's been close. I think we as committee are having a difficult time defining what a Hall of Fame receiver is. Is it...
Art Monk inching closer to the Hall of Fame
2007-08-10 19:43:00
The never sleeping Michael David Smith, who somehow finds time to write for PFT, FO, AOL, and Fox Sports (that I know of) while still finding the time to publish, ceased from his busy schedule to not only write about an issue relevant to Redskins fans but alert this writer of said event. You can find the article here at CNNSI or merely the relevant portions at The Art Monk Hall of Fame Campaign which never misses anything Monk related. As many of you well know, Paul Zimmerman, Dr. Z  of Sports Illustrated, has been one of the most vocal opponents to Art Monk's HoF bid. He's also a voter, which means his dissent alone represents 1/9th of the opposition required to block a candidate. And yet he had this to say in his most recent column: The Hall of Fame (I thought we were over that last week) comes surging to the fore, and the name that simply won't go away, that of Art Monk, has drawn what Andrew described as "triple-figure e-mails." He has chosen, as the spokesman for this g...
Harry Hog discusses Art Monk
2007-06-06 01:31:00
Quick shout out to my Blogging amigos at Harry Hog who will be discussing Art Monk and the HoF tonight on their podcast. As I'm admittedly obsessed with The Art Monk and his future HoF seat, I asked the Hogs for some info on their newest podcast. Josh sent me this email with details on how to listen in: The Episode 81 Podcast will be recorded tonight at about 7:00pm, and is usually up on Apple's iTunes by 9:00pm Redskins Standard Time.   Folks can call in on the HarryHog Hotline (DC Area Code) if they like:  (202) 657-HAIL - If we don't pick up, they can leave a voicemail - we will sometimes play voicemails back on our 'cast as well. People can also go to our website at HarryHogFootball.com and click on "podcast" to get the URL for media players other than iTunes. Make sure to listen in.
A step closer for Art Monk, perhaps?

Per an Extreme Skins Press Release (meaning it will be official shortly see?): Washington Redskins Owner Daniel M. Snyder has joined the National Football League's committee overseeing the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Snyder also serves on the National Football League's decision-making Broadcast Committee, Business Ventures Committee, and Digital Media Committee. The committee includes Chairman Dan Rooney (Steelers), Bud Adams (Titans), Bill Bidwell (Arizona), Pat Bowlen (Denver), Mike Brown (Bengals), Jerry Jones (booooo Dallas), Denise DeBartolo York (49ers), and Jack Jones (Green Bay). Not to be confused with the Hall of Fame Voters, so don't think this makes Dan a decision maker on who gets in. In fact I'm not really sure what Dan Snyder has become a member of or what its contribution towards inductions is. Maybe they decide on HoF criteria which could absolutely help Monk's case, if the Hall decides character matters. At the very least, having our owner on this committee ...
Art Monk clearly bad for Football
2007-04-19 19:31:00
Update [2007-4-19 13:12:28 by Skin Patrol]: The timing could NOT have been better. Did you have any idea (I didn't!!!) that today is National High Five Day???? I didn't even know there was a National High Five Day, though for the record I treat every day as National High Five Day. National High Five Day falls on the third Thursday of April each year, which falls this year on April 19, 2007. The holiday originated at the University of Virginia in 2002, and has since spread across the nation, and around the globe. God bless the High Five. First, let's recognize that NFL rules have changed since 1983, presumably for the better. Recently celebration rules have changed to prohibit group celebrations, using the ball as a prop, and falling to the ground (or something?). Last March, Vic Carucci offered his own dismissive opinion on those who would challenge whether the rules were good for the game: Let's dispense with the "No Fun League" talk from the beginning. This isn't about t...
Condoleezza Rice thinks Art Monk is a Hall of Famer
2007-02-28 11:52:02
Hat Tip: Extreme Skins. Caveat: This is not an attempt to be political by Hogs Haven whatsoever. I don't even know who Condoleezza Rice is. Please view this as another example of me taking Art Monk's snubbing personally by shamelessly cheerleading any and every mention of that man's greatness. I did not read anything else in the interview besides the question pertaining to Redskins fans. I link to it here nonetheless. Doug Williams is also mentioned. Name an African-American athlete, past or present, you admire and why. I admire Doug Williams for what he did. By winning that Super Bowl, he broke the stereotype about black quarterbacks in a very important way. And Art Monk, who I just think did everything quietly and with class. As a result, he may not get the adulation that I think he deserves. We're all reading between the lines here. Not getting the adulation he deserves is a pretty clear stab at the HoF Committee. It is getting pretty crowded here on the Art Monk Cheerleadi...
