The Aftermath of the Asante Samuel Deal.
2008-03-03 18:30:00 [1] Well the Eagles broke the bank open signing the top free agent on the market. Asante Samuel is an upgrade to a secondary that despite their big names, was arguably one of the worst in the league last season. The Eagles ranked 18th against the pass which isn't that bad, but when it came to

New England Patriots Release Rosevelt Colvin, Begin Rebuilding
2008-02-27 06:34:00 In what was a surprising move to some, the Patriots released linebacker Rosevelt Colvin on Tuesday.Rosevelt Colvin was a significant player in the Bill Belichick era because he marked the first time the Patriots signed a marquee free agent during his tenure in New England.Colvin came to New England after registering 21 sacks in his previous two seasons. He was arguably the best defensive playmaker on the market, and the Patriots needed an infusion of playmaking after a disappointing 2002 season. He started off his Patriots? career with sacks in both of his first two games. Then his Patriots? career was derailed by a devastating hip injury. It was so bad that he wondered if he?d ever walk again, never mind play football. We all knew he?d never be the same player he was before the injury. He was destined to become another free agent bust. But Colvin was anything but a bust. He fought back and became one of the key components to the 2004 Super Bowl championship team. He was an e...
Free Agent Cornerback, Asante Samuel, likes the Bucs
2008-02-26 04:23:00 News of the Weird Former New England Patriot and current Free Agent Cornerback Asante Samuel apparently has the Bucs on his short list of off-season spots he would like to land. His agent goes so far as to say: "That [Tampa Bay] is a situation that makes sense," said Alonzo Shavers, Samuel's agent. "Tampa Bay is definitely worth considering. It was an organization that was in the Super Bowl not too long ago. It is an organization Asante wants to play for. It's definitely something that makes perfect sense for everybody." - Tampa Tribune You're probably wondering why I would file this under News of the Weird, especially seeing how CB Brian Kelly paid 500k this off-season to ensure he won't return to Tampa and Asante Samuel would be a heck of a piece to fill BK's shoes with. The reason it's weird is... when have the Bucs ever given 8 mil to a Cornerback? Samuel might be 27, have (2) Superbowl Rings, and be considered as an upper echelon CB, but we all know the Bucs don't typ...

The NFL Picks Column: Super Bowl XLII Edition
2008-01-31 06:29:00 Before I get to my pick for the Super Bowl, I can't help but think about the NFL's un-champions. The teams that could have, and in some cases maybe should have, been in Sunday?s game. These teams had a chance to do something special, but instead took it to a whole new level of entertainment and playoff failure. In no particular order, let's take some time to honor the lovable losers of the 2007 NFL Playoffs: View article...
NFL Conference Championship Redux: Patriots, Giants Punch Their Tickets to
2008-01-22 04:07:00 Slowing recovering from a massive celebratory hangover. Where to start? At approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday, I ran out of fingernails. In desperation, I made the switch to toenails, which caused me to pull a hamstring (my four year old makes it look so easy). When that happened I had no choice but to start drinking heavily.OK, I was already drinking heavily, but at least at that point I had a legit reason.Click here for the rest of the article.
Patriot Perfection!
2007-12-30 09:19:00 Haven't posted here in a couple of days, but I have been busy.Wrote my week 17 picks column for Bleacher Report, my first column for Sports-Central on the evil cable companies and their battle with the NFL, and just finished gushing about the Patriots undefeated regular season.Honestly, I'm still in shock. The Patriots fell behind by 12 in the 3rd quarter and for the first time this year I really believed they were going to lose. They had EVERYTHING going against them and tons of pressure. And they responded. They played 10 minutes of great football and that was all it took to beat an NFC playoff team.Unbelievable.
Redskins interested in Asante Samuels (kidding, but...)
2007-04-05 20:19:00 I'm kidding. I think we're all a little tired of "Redskins are interested in ___________" talk. Still, Ryan Wilson at AOL Fanhouse opens with an interesting possibility: Here's an interesting idea: Asante Samuel has made it clear he won't be happy with the franchise tag. The Washington Redskins -- recently rebuffed by the Chicago Bears on a deal that would bring disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs to D.C. and included swapping first-round picks -- are also looking for cornerback help. Thanks to a suggestion floated by a reader on a Football Outsiders' thread, what if Washington traded cornerback Shawn Springs and their No. 6 overall pick to the Patriots for Asante Samuel and New England's No. 28 overall pick? I need to wrap my brain around this possibility but I'll briefly address some immediate Pros/Cons that strike me. Please add/subtract whatever I missed below: Pros: Asante Samuels at 26 is younger than Shawn Springs, and does not carry the attendent injury concern....
