Jodhaa Akbar was well researched? Ashutosh Gowariker
2008-02-21 07:33:00 Making an effort to clear the air over the controversy surrounding Jodhaa Akbar, director Ashutosh Gowariker has said that he had done thorough research for the film. Jodhaa Akbar has not been released in Rajasthan as the Rajputs believe that Jodhaa was not Akbar’s wife but his daughter-in-law. ?I am very sad that the film has not been released in Rajasthan because the film is rooted in Rajasthan. The Queen Jodhaa belonged to that place. I really want the people of Rajasthan and the whole of India to watch the film,? the acclaimed director states. The film basically deals with the marriage of alliance between Jodhaa and Akbar. ?How the Mughals changed because of Rajputs is basically what the film tries to portray,? says Ashutosh. Claiming that he has read a lot of books on Akbar and Rajput, he says, ?I read Medieval India by K L Khurana which has the reference of Jodhaa, Akbar by Munnilal also mentions about Jodhaa. Madhyakalin Bharat by Harishankar Sharma says ?Akbar respecte...
NY Times Movie Review of Jodhaa Akbar
2008-02-19 17:58:00 NY Times reviews the epical Jodhaa Akbar and finds the lead pair “wooden”. Not only that but the reviewer also has a problem with the length of the film. While liking the actors may be entirely subjective, I never understood why the length of a Bollywood film is such an issue. Bollywood films have their own pacing and style hence following western cinematic norms to please the Non-Asian audience isn’t what our directors need to aspire for!Anyways here is the review for your reading and feel free to agree or disagree:They may not make ’em like they used to in Hollywood, but sometimes in India they still do. “Jodhaa Akbar,” a historical romance directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is filmmaking on the grand scale of Cecil B. DeMille, with romance, stirring battles, a cast of thousands and enough elephants and gold to sink the Titanic. With so much attention focused on Islamic extremism, now seems an apt time for a movie about Akbar, the 16th-century Musli...

Jodhaa Akbar Movie Review
2008-02-16 11:47:00 Language: HINDI Genre: Action, Drama, Epic, Romance Director: Ashutosh Gowariker Producer: Ashutosh Gowariker, Ronnie ScrewvalaCast: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Music: A. R. Rahman Lyrics: Javed Akhtar Screenplay: Ashutosh Gowariker, K. P. Saxena Story/Writer: Ashutosh Gowariker Art Direction: Nitin Desai Let's get one thing straight: You haven't watched anything so opulent, so magnificent like this in a long, long time on the Hindi screen. It's not just body beautiful, but there's soul as well.It requires courage, prowess, patience, aptitude, knowledge, passion and of course, loads of currency to attempt a movie like Jodhaa Akbar. But more than anything else, it requires your firm belief in the subject, the belief to attempt a historical when historicals are considered an absolute no-no in the industry, the belief to spend almost Rs. 40 crores in a film that could go either ways.Only when you're convinced yourself can you convince millions of moviegoers. And convinced you ar...
Jodhaa Akbar Movie Review
2008-02-15 08:19:00 Its finally here, the movie the entire nation has been waiting for. Jodhaa Akbar premiered today and is already winning rave reviews, which doesn’t surprise us at all. Hope this time Ashutosh Gowarikor achieves commercial success along with critical success. Here is one of the reviews of the movie: Let the cynics not disillusion you citing reasons of credibility, long runtime, Troy treatment references or the ancient jinx associated with historical. Jodhaa Akbar is a brilliant work of cinematic excellence. Period! No there’s more to the review. Just keep an adjective count hereon.Ashutosh Gowariker goes two more centuries back from his Lagaan era to deliver another magnificent masterpiece by weaving a gripping narrative around the Mughal Emperor Akbar and Rajput Princess Jodhaa. The beautifully recreated 15th Century period doesn’t give any scope at pointing fingers and perfectionist too might feel it pointless to debate on historical facts, ...

NY Times on Jodhaa Akbar
2008-02-11 08:48:00 Jodhaa Akbar is not only creating waves at home ground but also abroad. NY Times recently did a piece on this magnum opus and here are some excerpts.LAST October Aishwarya Bachchan grappled with a tough choice. The Bollywood star could either stay in Los Angeles to pursue a lead role in Will Smith’s new film, “Seven Pounds,” or she could return home to Mumbai to celebrate Karva Chauth, a daylong ceremonial fast that some married Hindu women observe as a prayer for their husband’s health and long life. (The observance is a new one for Ms. Bachchan; in April she married Abhishek Bachchan, an actor and the son of the Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan, a union that prompted Time magazine to describe the three as “Bollywood’s Father, Son and Holy Babe.”)Ultimately Ms. Bachchan chose to return to Mumbai and starve with a smile. National television channels covered her first Karva Chauth as headline news. Two months later she shrugged off he...

Is it true that a company dumped the music of Jodha-Akbar? It's true that we were looking at an association with Big Music. But we didn't agree on certain rights issue for the music….so we parted. I treasure every song that I record and wouldn't dream of cutting them for length. Even if we had nine songs only t...

Ashutosh Gowarikar on Jodhaa Akbar
2008-01-07 11:18:00 Ashutosh Gowarikar talks about his next directorial venture Jodhaa Akbar whose release has been postponed to February. Is Jodhaa-Akbar the most difficult film you’ve made so far?It is. But the process has been so enjoyable and I didn’t mind the toil. My crew made the process of creation very interesting. Just working hard isn’t a virtue. Otherwise I should not make a film. And I definitely shouldn’t make a historical.Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan have very contemporary personalities? That won’t be a problem. The audience will come in and forget everything about Hrithik and Aishwarya. I’ve no fear of that. The two are brilliant.

Jodha Akbar Delayed-Ashutosh Gowariker Bedridden
2007-12-26 08:07:00 The release of Ashutosh Gowariker's film Jodha Akbar starring Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, which was supposed to release on the 25th of January 2008, has been delayed because Ashutosh has been bedridden with acute back pain. The perfectionist that Ashutosh is, he supervises everything right from the background music to the dubbing and the editing. This he has not been able to do because of his illness. Hence the delay. The music of Jodha Akbar has also been delayed as UTV is releasing the music under their own banner (Their new music label). Previously the music rights were given to BIG music but due to some differences, UTV decided to release it themselves. All in all it seems that Jodha Akbar has started on a wrong footing what with all the delays. But everyone who has seen the promos and the look of the film swear that this one's a winner. Moreover, Hritik Roshan(who plays Akbar) is also not sparing any effort for promoting the film. He is already in talks with Ash...

People will forget Ash and Hrithik: Ashutosh Gowariker
2007-12-24 11:05:00 Ashutosh Gowariker opens up on Jodhaa-Akbar...Is Jodhaa-Akbar the most difficult you've made?It is. But the process has been so enjoyable I didn't mind the toil. They're extremely charismatic and good-looking. They were a huge success in the contemporary Dhoom 2. That can only help my film, not harm it.What audiences will see in my film are Jodha and Akbar. Ashutosh Gowariker On Relevance of Jodhaa Akbar in Todays Time
2007-11-27 11:57:00 Ashutosh Gowariker spoke to Subhash K Jha recently and some excerpts from the interview. After Lagaan, you return to a period film in Jodhaa Akbar? You might say that. But i call Lagaan a period film. Jodhaa Akbar is to me a historical. Anything after 1857 is a period film for me. Anything before that is a historical. I'd call Mughal-E-Azam a historical though its focus was different from mine. I feel if today we make a story about the past it must be correlated to the present. And Jodhaa Akbar is as relevant to present times as arranged marriages. Jodhaa and Akbar shared a perfect arranged marriage. I was fascinated by how their relationship must have grown after marriage.Have you stressed the religious difference between Jodhaa and Akbar? It's important but not stressed in my film. Akbar's marriage to Jodhaa was no common occurrence. It had a nationwide reverberation 450 years ago when society was far more conservative. How did their marriage affect those times? That'...

Ashutosh Gowariker On Jodhaa Akbar
2007-10-17 12:07:00 Ashutosh Gowariker is all geared up for his Magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar. Indiatimes caught up with the brilliant director and here are some excerpts from the interview. Why did you choose to focus on the 'love' element in the story?Love is the greatest element for all stories. It can bring empires together or make them go to war with each other. Jodha and Akbar married first and loved later. My subject of focus in this film is the alliance of marriage between Jodhaa and Akbar. It is the alliance of Mughal and Rajput empires and finally of two communities - Hindu and Muslim. The greatest question that lies to be explored is 'how did this marriage take place' and that's what my film explores. In India, even today there are arranged marriages and the couple ask each other some questions and tie the knot. They only get to really know each other after the wedding. Do you think the star presence will overshadow the film? When you see the film you'll forget that you'...
