Tanghalang Ateneo Goes Pop in Shakespeare's Hakbang sa Hakbang
2008-01-23 10:35:00
Tanghalang Ateneo Goes Pop in Shakespeare's Hakbang sa HakbangTanghalang Ateneo and TeatroFilipino Integrated return to Shakespeare with a novel rendition of Measure for Measure, a play on desire, morality, and justice. Translated as Hakbang sa Hakbang, the production marks the first time the play will be staged in Filipino. It will also showcase student talents under the direction of Ronan Capinding, the acclaimed young director of such plays as Middle Finger po and Ang Nilalang ni Victor Frankenstein.Tanghalang Ateneo's Hakbang sa Hakbang draws on dance movements from contemporary pop culture to capture the spirit of permissiveness that marks the play. This fusion of contemporary dance and Shakespearean text reveals as well the persona of the characters and the tone of each scene. Staged in the round, the play also gives audiences the experience of intimately witnessing the story unfold in their midst. One of Shakespeare's problem plays, Hakbang sa Hakbang seeks a philosophy of...
El Ateneo Grand Splendid, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world
2008-01-17 13:47:00
El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore, in Buenos Aires, occupies the second place in the list of 10 fairest bookstores in the world, according to Sean Dodson from British newspaper The Guardian. The building which hosts the bookstore today was inaugurated in 1919 as an elegant theater, the "Grand Splendid", designed by architects Peró and Torres Armengol, with 4 rows of theater boxes, 500 seats, a dome painted by Italian Nazareno Orlandi, and sculptures by Troiani to the sides of the stage, and on the Greek style front marquee. In the year 2000, the building was acquiered by the bookstore and restored to mantain its original features.According to Sean Dodson, "El Ateneo has retained its former splendour, with high painted ceiling, original balconies and ornate carvings intact. Even the crimson stage curtains remain part of the show. Comfy chairs are scattered throughout, the stage is utilised as a reading area and café, and even better, the former theatre boxes are used as tiny reading ...

Ateneo installs Account Information Kiosk
2008-01-10 04:13:00
Wow, Ateneo's getting high tech. I just learned this from my colleague this morning. The Ateneo Finance Office installed a touch screen Account Information Kiosk at the Bellarmine Building of the Jacinto Campus. Now, students can inquire their account balance and payment history from the information kiosk. To go to your account, you must enter the last five numbers of your ID Barcode. The system will also ask for your PIN. The default PIN is the complete set of numbers (excluding the last Alpha character) found in your barcode. After you have entered the required information, you will be given the options to change your PIN or View your account.Wow, I guess there will no longer be queues for balance inquiries at Window 7. Ateneo de Manila Victorious In Square Off Debate Championships
2007-12-02 13:37:00
With barely a  month  to go before the 28th Worlds Universities Debate Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, one team just got a very generous prize of an all-expense paid trip to the tournament. Ateneo de Manila University’s Sharmila Paramanand and Charrisse Borromeo won the Square Off Debate Championship after besting Ateneo de Zamboanga’s Alzhoheir Hajim and Henry Segovia. Ateneo de Manila reached the finals after beating Western Mindanao State University (octofinals), San Beda College (quarterfinals) and De Lasalle University (semifinals). The debaters from Loyola entered the tournament as the top seeds by virtue of having the best performance during the 2006 Philippine Inter-collegiate Debate Championship. Ateneo de Zamboanga was seeded 11th coming in, but they worked up the ladder by winning rounds against the University of the Philippines Manila (octofinals), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (quarterfinals) and the University of the Philippines Diliman (se...

El Ateneo de Madrid censura
2007-10-01 01:16:00

Put a Sock In It (a postsecret project): Ateneo Student Exhibit
2007-09-26 03:57:00
Inspired by Frank Warren's http://postsecret.blogspot.com/-, the Put a Sock In It: a postsecret project student exhibit celebrates the idea of a secret: its anonymity, the power it holds, and the sharing of a secret.Drop boxes were placed all over campus, where students can anonymously contribute their secrets written in creative and colorful designs. Random (or maybe the juiciest) secrets were selected and displayed in different categories: "Let's Get It On;" "I'm Gay Too;" "Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave my heart in my mouth;" "What? Me? Weird?;" and "I Know Who You Are." These categories were determined by the number of secrets that go under them. For example, because there were too many secrets about sex, the "Let's Get It On" category was created. The "Let's Get It On" category are secrets that involve erotic thoughts and activities. The exhibit explains that sex is a popular "hushed" subject among peers, and this is especially true here in the Philippines. Sex is taboo a...

Ateneo students can now view grades online
2007-09-11 11:46:00
Good news for Ateneans (Davao) like me. There's no need for us to fall in line at the registrar's office to see our grades. The grades and account balance can now be inquired through the University Website.A lot of students, and parents, have been requesting this feature before so that grades and account balance can be inquired online. Thanks to the Ateneo Webteam that they have fabricated this system that could make use of the finance and registrar records to integrate it with the existing web site. The Ateneo myAccount Login Page.I didn't notice this feature not until one of our colleagues opened the Ateneo Website to check her grades. I was amazed that they already installed this feature. It might be helpful for those students who would want to reduce the hassle of queuing at the finance and registrar's office.I still remember the time where I was part of the Ateneo Web Team. It was proposed before that this system should be implemented since it would benefit to the stud...
Square Off Update: UP Manila Bows To Ateneo De Zamboanga

A response to the injustice of the Ateneo OSA
2007-08-29 15:39:00
The SAMAHAN finally expressed their sympathy on the aftermath of Mr. Enriquez' unjust sanction for the nine students who violated the student code of conduct for ID's. The photos above says "Let us light a candle in sympathy to the 9 Ateneo students who became victims of unjust sanction and public humiliation".About two weeks ago, the Ateneo Community noticed the presence of a "WANTED" poster in the Office of the Student Affairs Bulletin Board. Contained in this poster are the photos and IDs of 9 students who violated the school's policy on IDs.As far as I know, when someone violates a rule stated in the student's handbook, the person guilty of such violation shall be given proper sanctions. Sanctions for certain violations vary depending on its weight. Such things shall be determined by the OSA Director or by the Disciplinary Board. Example of these sanctions are public apology, community service, suspension and expulsion. Not once that I have heard of a rule saying that ...

Birthday ni BaliueYeah, it's Baliue's birthday. Pumunta kami sa bahay to surprise her with our cake and gift. Hehehhe. At least we had a taste of her mother's food. I did mention in my previous post that I won't be blogging much. This week's been very busy for me. Excuse me if I've been ranting these past few days on how busy I am and how I am so pressured with school life. June is not a good month for me and for most of our blogging friends. I'm still at my peak of adjustments. This is my final year in college and I have to do good. Staying for another year is not part of my plan.PhilosophyI'm taking six units of Philosophy this year. I am 3 units behind in Philosophy. We need at least twelve units in Philo in order to graduate. My Philosophy (of Human Person) class got dissolved last year. I was on a block section but my classmates dropped the subject and transferred to another schedule. I was one of the three people who were not able to add the subject after the class was dissolved.I have a philosophy class from Monday to Friday. MWF for my Philosophy of Religion and TTH schedule for my Philosophy of the Human Person. Unfor...

Yehey!

Would you decline this offer?
2007-06-21 09:43:00
Opportunity knocks only once. Yesterday, I was offered to conduct a training in Brunei. The training would focus on Web and Graphics design. It's a seven-day training with pre-made training modules, which means that it would be easier for me to facilitate the training since may nakahandang training plan na. Also, they would be the one who would process my professional working visa. Diba? Ok na ok yung offer. And I would also earn $100 per day. One week po yan.I was about to accept the offer pero nagbago ang isip ko. When I checked the University schedule, the return date from Brunei would fall on a week before our advisory exams. I'm gonna be busy also with my project for the prelims. Not to mention pa yung project study at patong patong na projects from my 5 major subjects. ...

Namasyal ng konti tas we spent most of the day on our bus seat.
