Atheist debates Christian space alien
2009-10-22 06:50:00
A debate supposedly took place, earlier today, between a prominent Chicago-area atheist and a space alien who is a Christian. The story of the debate was published in today's Bolingbrook Babbler, a tabloid newpaper that deals in fictitious news.
The Atheist Love Song: See by Happy Days Ahead
2009-08-14 19:25:00
As someone who dabbled in being in an atheist acoustic duo for over a couple of years, hearing of another similarly minded partnership makes me somehow feel warm and fuzzy inside. William of Happy Days Ahead shared their new songs at the Filipino Freethinkers mailing list and he has quickly made new fans out of ...

Aliens & Atheist Absurdity
2009-07-21 16:08:00
My wife and I rented Knowing, a newly released (on DVD) movie with Nicolas Cage in it.  I have to admit I love end-of-the-world, science fiction movies.  Some of my favorites are Deep Impact, Independence Day and Core. There is a scene in Knowing, where the professor character that Cage plays, explains two competing views of ...

Atheist bus signs: a caption contest
2009-02-06 05:00:00
Over in the UK, the atheist bus campaign has been attracting a lot of media interest. Some Christian groups have chimed in with their own (predictably humourless) rival ads, and there have been various theological responses as well.So anyway, I reckon it’s time to settle this dispute once and for all – and what better way to resolve age-old metaphysical questions than with a caption contest? I’ll send a free book to the person who invents the best bus sign. (You get bonus points if your sign persuades someone to change their deepest beliefs.)
Atheist Group Wants God Reference Removed From Obama Swearing In Ceremony
2008-12-31 13:56:00
A popular Atheist group has filed suit in attempt to prevent Barack Obama from swearing to God during his presidential inauguration. The lawsuit has been filed before the U.S. District Court in Columbia by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. “So help me God” is the term in question here that the group wants taken out of the ...

Atheist Billboards?
2008-11-16 18:08:00
Ten atheism-promoting billboards will go up in Denver over the holidays and one in Colorado Springs; the message is simple: “Don’t believe in God? You are not alone” in white letters over background that shows a mostly-cloudy blue sky. These billboards are, reportedly being paid for by a Colorado atheist group but, since the ...
We Are Atheist. Resistance will be Ignored.
2008-11-09 18:43:00
Or something like that. Claiming to be about the “anti-religion agenda” on the social sites Digg, Reddit and YouTube, all this article really does is provide evidence that atheists use social sites and that Digg seems to be dominated by atheists. But, that’s the kind assessment.  The unkind assessment is that it’s yet more “evidence” ...

?Atheist? =/= ?Alien?
2008-10-10 04:24:00
The workplace gives me a good bird’s eye view of how people in my country see atheists. There’s the weird “I was gonna tell you something but now I’m not because you might get offended” reaction, for one. And lately I’ve been more open about religion to more people. Luckily, the reaction’s not Bible Belt ...

The Atheist Fish meets the Natural Fish
2008-09-04 21:30:00
1.One evening there was a small incident in the ocean. The sun had set and just a moment before, a fish had been very happy and joyous dancing in the sun rays in the infinite vastness of the ocean. She was dancing, swimming. The fish was so natural and innocent. There was not a slightest trace of doubt in her mind. But a moment later she met an atheist fish who said to her: "What are you dancing for? Why are you so happy? Why are you celebrating? It seems you are also a blind believer like those other ordinary fish. There is no joy and this ocean that you think you are in - where you are dancing and swimming and enjoying in - there is no such thing. Have you ever seen an Ocean?"The young fish became afraid. She had heard of this Ocean but she had never seen it.When someone is born in the Ocean, when someone grows in Ocean and has never gone out of the Ocean, then there is no way to see the Ocean. To see, some distance is needed, some separation, some gap is needed. The fish had heard ...
I am Jane Doe, and I am an atheist
2008-08-29 02:35:00
Holy Prepuce forwarded me this plea by Craig A. James (The Religion Virus), for all internet atheists to “come out” and post their real identities. Excuses on why I haven’t posted in about a month now: Religion is no longer something I want to discuss with my parents. Atheist Nexus Controversy?
2008-08-03 10:00:00
I recently read a few blog posts regarding Atheist Nexus, a social site on the Ning platform for atheists. Apparently, not everybody agrees with some of the decisions made by the operators of this group.  Sound familiar?  It's nice to know that  some people have their noses up everybody's asses and not just ours...but I digress. We set up a group there months ago which hasn't been utilized since the main site serves a similar function, but if you are into that format, please feel free to register at rationalresponders.ning.com. If there proves to be enough interest, we would be willing to spend the money necessary to improve the format over there. If you have already registered at Atheist Nexus, you can use the same login info.,Kelly

An Atheist and a Bear
2008-06-09 02:20:00
An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that evolution had created. "What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!", he said to himself. As he was walking along the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. When he turned to see what the cause was, he saw a 7-foot grizzly charging right towards him. He ran as fast as he could. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing, He ran even faster, crying in fear. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was pounding and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up, but saw the bear right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him. At that moment, the Atheist cried out "Oh my God!...." Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. Even the river stopped moving. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, "You ...

The Atheist and the Bear An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that the "accident of evolution" had created. "What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!", he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly charge towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing. He ran even faster, so scared that tears were coming to his eyes. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was pumping frantically and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. What's Wrong Being An Atheist?
2008-04-29 19:06:00
So what are you? A Buddhist, a Christian, a Catholic, a Muslim or someone that ?belongs? to another religion? Or are you an Atheist? What made you become the person you are today, atheist or otherwise? Will you be willing to defend your beliefs through the rest of this post? I?ve been having lengthy arguments with one of my good Muslim friends about this whole idea of the existence of god. But this post is not about that. The argument on the existence of god is something which I would happily deviate from for I have no divine knowledge to be able to answer that. But as many would say, ?It?s a matter of belief?, and I?d like to stick with it. So the matter at hand is: What?s wrong being an atheist? My parents are Buddhists. (I don?t know how to define a Buddhist, but if the definition dictates that a Buddhist is someone who follows the teachings of Lord Buddha, then yes, they are Buddhists). So does that make me a Buddhist? To a certain extent, yes, I guess. I?ve bee...

If it weren’t for a blogger over on the Chicago Tribune it’s highly likely that many of us would have never heard of Monique Davis’ anti-atheist tirade. ?Bad Day? the cause of anti-atheist rant

My favorite atheist
2008-04-10 06:46:00
Click on the title for a BBC interview. Of course the interviewer sounds like a dhimmi accusing her of being provocative when she merely speaks the truth about the reality of "The religion of peace". One is reminded, when he says that she is as provocative as an Islamist in the eyes of Muslims, of the movie quote, "Truth? You can't take the truth". I must read her book when it comes out. No doubt her publisher is due to be threatened.

Keith Olbermann’s worst person last night was none other than Rep. Representative tries to put the fear of God in atheist
2008-04-06 18:31:00
Did you hear about the state legislator who last week blasted a Lutheran minister during a committee hearing for spewing dangerous religious superstitions, and then attempted to order the minister out of the witness chair on the grounds that his Christian beliefs are "destroying what this state was built upon?"Of course you didn't, because it didn't happen and would never happen. Not to a Christian, not to a Jew, not to a Muslim or to anyone who subscribes to any faith.Such an attack would rightly be considered scandalously out of bounds in contemporary society. But you probably also didn't hear about what actually did happen:Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) interrupted atheist activist Rob Sherman during his testimony Wednesday afternoon before the House State Government Administration Committee in Springfield and told him, "What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous . . . it's dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists!"This is the Land of Li...

Atheist on Death
2008-04-05 20:34:00
Brian J. Sabel from Just Atheists wrote a post that caught my attention.  Since my grandma died, I’ve been thinking about death quite a bit for obvious reasons.  Obviously, my view of death is that we who place faith in Christ go on to eternal reward, while the rest do not.  “[I]t is appointed for ...
The Atheist Delusion
2008-04-02 06:09:00
The notion that religion is a primitive version of science was popularised in the late 19th century in JG Frazer’s survey of the myths of primitive peoples, The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion. For Frazer, religion and magical thinking were closely linked. Rooted in fear and ignorance, they were vestiges of human ...

The (ir)Rational Atheist--More Vox Day
2008-03-30 09:07:00
Starting off chapter two, which is entitled “Defining Science,” is a brief description of the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, unknown to most, but a troupe of traveling masochists (or so it seems) who represent his caricature of science. These little side stories can have more of an effect than the reader understands, though. Right off the bat, science is seen as either freakish or trivial due to the association with that particular experience of his. Because of this, I find it necessary to give you the actual definition of “science”:  1. a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws 2. systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation… 4. systematized knowledge in general. 5. knowledge, as of facts or principles; knowledge gained by systematic study. 6. a particular branch of knowledge. 7. skill, es...

The Four Hoursemen of the ATHEIST Apocalypse!

I just loved this comic. I especially appreciate the contrast, when the very familiar-looking horsemen speak, with extremely scary looks on their faces, and horror movie poster-like letters, of an “apocalypse” I’d love to see become reality. “FACTS WILL STRADDLE THE EARTH AS A COLOSSUS, AND YOU SHALL LIVE IN THEIR SHADOW!!” (Seen first on Measured ...
