Hanley Homers Marlins to Win
2008-06-04 23:48:00 For 8 innings it looked like the Fish were going to continue their downhill spiral and then Mike Rabelo hit a 2-run home run followed by another 2-run shot from Hanley Ramirez (his seconf of the game) and the Marlins win 6-4. Oh, and Kevin Gregg did not blow the save.

Can Chipper Jones hit .400 this year?
2008-05-30 02:41:00 Well we've been so busy with summer, the NBA Conference Finals, and the Stanley Cup Finals that we haven't been going a lot of MLB posting. So here's something for you!So when do we start the Chipper .400 Watch? The Sports Flow is starting now and so should you! Only three times in the past 50 years has any hitter had as high a batting average as Chipper has now (.418), Rod Carew (1983), Rico Carty (1974) and Hank Aaron (1959). So why not start the speculation?I realize it's been 67 years and counting since Ted Williams hit .400. And it's 28 years since George Brett even became the last man to carry a .400 average into September. But why not Chipper? He's a switch-hitter who's batting .409 left-handed and .431 right-handed. He hit .422 in April. He's stayed hot in May hitting .429. And over the past year, he has had only one month when he's hit lower than .364. This leads me to believe this is no fluke. In fact, if you look back over that year, Chipper batted .376 (with a ....

2008-05-05 21:49:00 Greg Norton, who was DFA’d after the callups of Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien, was traded today to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations and or a PTBNL. This should be a much better situation for Norton, where he’ll almost certainly receive daily at bats in the National League style of play. As far as these player-to-be-named-later ...

New Closer For The Atlanta Braves
2008-04-15 18:32:00 With closer Rafael Soriano on the DL, right-handed side-armer Peter Moylan took over the closer role. After one successful save opportunity, he was placed on the DL, too. The new closer is likely Manny Acosta.I picked him up last week in hopes he would be closing. After Moylan got the 1st chance and converted it, I figured Acosta would just pitch in high leverage innings. However, I stayed away from Moylan at my NL-Only draft because I had same concerns about a reliever who threw 90 or so innings in 80 or so games last year. Now, I look smarted than I did just a couple hours ago.

John Smoltz, Mark Teixeira lift Atlanta Braves past New York Mets 3-1 (AP)
2008-04-06 23:26:00 Johan Santana was sharp. The New York Mets just couldn’t do much against John Smoltz and the Braves bullpen. Jordan Schafer, The #1 Atlanta Braves Prospect
2007-11-15 20:51:00 Baseball America posted the first of its thirty Top 10 Prospect lists a couple weeks ago. Unlike Baseball Prospectus, the BA guys have begun in the National League. Starting in the NL East, the Atlanta Braves are firsrt. This year's top Braves prospect, Jordan Schafer, entered 2007 as the 27th ranked player in the Braves minor league system. Here is what BA wrote in its Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2007:Schafer's production to this point has been lackluster...He also needs to improve his plate discipline and pitch recognition...he needs to start making some positive strides at the plate. Here are the positive strides he made that propelled him from the bottom of the Braves Top 30 to the King of the Hill. 30 total extra base hits in Low A to 34 doubles in High A would do that. Nevermind he spent time in Low A and the Arizona Fall leage. All told, he had 50 doubles, 11 triples and 16 HRs. That would do it. Danger Zone: Atlanta Braves
2007-10-04 01:57:00 The danger zone for an increase in a pitcher's innings year-to-year is said to be 30. Team by team, let's assess the risk of certain starters. Next up is the Braves. Tim Hudson logged 224.3 innings in a comeback season that definitely took me by surprise. He really returned a ton of positive fantasy value this year relative to the price. His innings total increased by only six over last year, and he's a veteran who can handle the rigors of a full season. He's Safe. John Smoltz racked up 205.6 innings, 26.3 less than last year. That's because of a DL stint for shoulder inflammation. He turns 41 next May, so we have to label him Risky. Still, it would surprise no one if he managed another 200 innings next year. Chuck James checked in with 161.3 innings, a 7.6 inning increase over last year. The southpaw dealt with a sore back and strained hamstring in '06 as a rookie, no big concern. This year it was a tweaked ba...

7 / 11 is Heaven for the New York Mets [J. Mark English]
2007-09-13 04:14:00 A few weeks ago after the Mets lost four straight to the Phillies, I said that it was time for them to "stand their ground" and prevent further "free fall". Of course those quotes came from Tom Petty's repertoire. Not only did they "stand their ground" but they went to down to Atlanta with a "Damn the Torpedo's" full speed ahead attitude.Over the past two weeks they have begun to run away with the division. They have won 10 of 12 games including 5 of 6 from the Atlanta Braves. They tied the season series against the Braves. They have built their lead against the Phillies to 7, and now have a magic number of only 11. The countdown can begin towards a second division championship in a row.Soon, once the division has been clinched, the Mets can turn their attention to doing what they could not do last year. Advance beyond the NLCS, and win a World Series for the first time since 1986http://img68.imageshack.us/-my.php?image=amerlegendslogo5wj-.gif

MLB: Rounding Third [Jay Moussab]
2007-08-28 23:49:00 With there star 2nd baseman returning to the lineup yesterday the Phillies crushed the Mets 9-2. With homeruns from Chase Utley, Tadahito Iguchi, and Met killer Pat Burrell and excellent pitching from J.D. Durbin the Phils actually looked like a playoff team. Willie Randolph said this about Chase Utley, "He's an excellent player. I'm not looking forward to seeing him."The Braves destroyed the Marlins 13-2 behind Brian McCann's grand slam and a 4-6 night off the bat of Matt Diaz. Lance Cormier gets the win as Scott Olsen gets the loss.In the AL East the Yanks get spanked by the Detroit Tigers by a score of 16-0. That was the worst road loss for the Yanks since 1907. The Yanks now face the Red Sox for a 3 game series. The Yanks are now 8 games behind in the East and 2 in the Wild Card. The AL West might be decided this week as the Mariners are hosting the Angels who are now leading the division by 2 games after beating the Mariners last night by a score of 6-0. Mets Extend Lead, Yanks Shrink Lead [David Stefanini]
2007-08-20 18:01:00 In the AL East, the New York Yankees continued to keep winning, as Boston continues to play good baseball, not great. Boston's loss combined with the Yankees' win, leaves Boston with only a 4 game lead in the division. When the All-Star break rolled around it looked as if Boston was going to run away with their division and easily make it to the playoffs. But then the Yanks started playing like the Yanks. Ever since then it seems every week the Yanks cut a chunk out of Boston's lead. I once thought the Yankees would never be able to catch Boston, now I am not to sure. Now lets take a look over at the NL standings. What do we see? The New York Mets have a bigger lead in their division than the Boston Red Sox. With the Mets win, and the Phillies loss yesterday, the Mets have extended their division lead to 5 games over the Phillies and 5.5 over the Braves. If this team could just stay off of the DL they would have a 10 game lead in the division. Think about all the main components ...
