The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #3 - Atlanta Falcons
2008-03-18 17:39:00 With the second pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Jake Long, OT, Michigan. Jake Long finished with 67% of the vote. He was followed by Vernon Gholston (21%) and Glenn Dorsey (7%). So that makes the draft so far look like this: Miami Dolphins - Chris Long, DE, Virginia (49%) St. Louis Rams - Jake Long, OT, Michigan (67%) Up next, with the 3rd pick, are the Atlanta Falcons. Below are their needs, according to NFL Draft Countdown: 1. Quarterback: Neither Joey Harrington or Byron Leftwich were the long-term answer and even though Chris Redman played admirably late in the year this franchise needs a signal caller in the worst way. 2. Offensive Tackle: Wayne Gandy was sent packing and will need to be replaced at left tackle because it's highly unlikely that guys like Renardo Foster and Quinn Ojinnaka are starting material in the NFL. 3. Defensive Tackle: Rod Coleman was their one impact presence on the interior but he's gon...

Atlanta Falcons RELEASE TIGHT END ALGE CRUMPLER: Bruce do the RIGHT THING!
2008-02-16 00:34:00 The Atlanta Falcons have just released 5 Time Pro-Bowl Tight End Alge Crumpler reports ESPN.com. This is the greatest opportunity the Bucs could ever have to acquire a REAL Tight End. Sorry Alex, but Alge is a MAN and would be THE MAN in Tampa. Crumpler was set to make 3.4 Million this season, that is NOTHING. Chump change in this day in age. There is NO REASON why the Bucs can't-won't-shouldn't pursue and sign my man Alge Crumpler. Checkout his stats below: We all know Alge's had to work with some of the most erratic QB's in the League, Vick, Harrington, Leftwich etc.. He's been nothing but durable up until this season. Some might think of Crumpler as a prima donna for the way he outed then Head Coach Bobby Petrino last season. Alge's not that guy and never has been, he just got completely fed up with the hand he had been dealt and who can blame him? Atlanta Falcons to CUT RB Warrick Dunn? Return to Tampa?
2008-02-01 03:27:00 With the new Coaching Staff finally in place in Atlanta, there's increased chatter that former Bucs RB Warrick Dunn might get cut, as the new Coaching Staff wants to implement a Power Running game (Because that worked so well with T.J. Duckett). Warrick was asked about the possibility of being cut and what his options would look like: "If I wasn't a Falcon and I went back to Tampa or played for coach [Tony] Dungy, it would be something that's full circle," Dunn said. "It's not what I'm hoping for and wishing for, but you never know" - Atlanta Journal-Constitution To be honest, I would be tickled to have Warrick Dunn roaming the sidelines once again. I loved watching Warrick Dunn at Florida State and followed him to the Buccaneers in '96. I was pissed to see him go to the Falcons (what a bone-head move Rich) and it would be great to see Dunn return to Tampa and retire a Buccaneer. However, the competitive side of me wants no part of a Warrick Dunn reunion. I wish he never lef...

2008 NFL Mock Draft: Atlanta Falcons
2008-01-30 06:31:00 Previous Picks: 1) Miami Dolphins: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU2) St. Louis Rams: Jake Long, OT, MichiganThe Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues We've reached the point in the Mock Draft where every team sucks equally. So equally that, as of right now, we still don?t know for sure who?s picking third. Here?s how it breaks down:The Falcons, Raiders, Chiefs, and Jets all finished 4-12. Either the Falcons or the Raiders will pick third. The Jets don?t get to play because they sucked against better competition. The Chiefs don?t get to play because they sucked less than the Raiders against common opponents. So at the NFL Combine, the Raiders and Falcons will flip a coin. The winner picks third. The loser picks fourth?unless the Raiders win. If that happens, we get ANOTHER coin flip to decide if the Chiefs or Falcons pick fourth.Coin flips are stupid, so until the NFL decides otherwise we?re going with the Falcons picking third for a very simple reason: they were the worse of the two te...

Jaguars Defensive Coordinator Mike Smith to Atlanta Falcons
2008-01-23 18:59:00 [editor's note, by River City Rage]: I just read that Dave Campo, our Assistant Head Coach received permission to interview with the 49'ers during the Senior Bowl. Gameday Thread: Tampa Bay Bucs vs Atlanta Falcons
2007-12-16 17:09:00 When: 1:00pm Est Sunday Where: Raymond James Stadium Why to Watch: With a Win the Bucs head to the Playoffs!! I know the Falcons as a whole seem like a Bad Dream, but our players shouldnt take them lightly today. You've got a team that has been kicked while its down and should clearly come together on this day and save some face. I expect today's game to be brutal. The Falcons want to resemble a team and the Bucs want to wrap up their Playoff hopes. Don't look for a 31-7 outcome today, its not going to happen. Despite the distractions, the Falcons will come in focused today. To talk about that focus, here's a Q & A session with our Atlanta Falcons Blogger, Dave, from The Falcoholic: JScott: Bobby Petrino.... Did you see his departure coming? More On Petrino's Sudden Departure From The Atlanta Falcons
2007-12-12 03:30:00 Well, for some reason, I'm not surprised at this. QB Jeff Garcia to START against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday
2007-12-11 02:42:00 QB Jeff Garcia is expected to take the field Sunday at Raymond James Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons. Head Coach Jon Gruden has been receiving heat for being sketchy as to who would start this past Sunday in the defeat to the Houston Texans... He refused to apologize however and I agree with him: "I don't believe I should apologize, but I don't feel like we have to divulge everything or let everyone know exactly where it is in terms of the timetable for Jeff. We felt it was a two-week injury. ... We feel we did the right thing, the only thing [to do was] to let the injury get better." - ESPN.com The mejority of the teams in the league hide their hand when it comes to choosing a Starting QB when the teams main starter is under the weather or recovering from an injury, as in Garcia's case. The Falcons recently did it against the Bucs, by not naming Byron Leftwich (aka mistake) the starter during the week when they met just 4 weeks ago.

GameDay Thread: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons
2007-11-18 18:10:00 When: 1:00pm Est Sunday Where: ATL The Playoff push begins NOW. I know we say it all the time, but this is a MUST Win. This game sets the rest of the season in motion. We lose today and you just know the season is pretty much over. We win decisively today and you may wanna book some Playoff Tickets. The Falcons have a two game winning streak going, but they are clearly beatable. QB Byron Leftwich will get the start today, having not started the past two games (in which the Falcons won). There's no way he'll be in any kind of rhythm and to make sure he's not; Gaines Adams, Jovan Haye, and Greg White will have to put pressure on the QB early and often. Q&A Session with Atlanta Falcons Blogger from Falcoholic
2007-11-17 22:48:00 Before we lay the smack down to our NFC South Rival Falcons, I wanted to take the time and ask SBNation Falcons Blogger, Dave, a couple questions about his beloved Red Birds. Here's the fruit of that labor: JScott:Your Atlanta Falcons have a nice winning streak going.... Does the fan base want wins to keep coming or is there a quiet yet prominent sector of the fan base that would rather see this team tank in order to secure a better position in the upcoming NFL Draft? Dave:I've mostly heard from fans who would like to see us salvage a little dignity, but I also think it's a very real concern. If we end up with none of the top-rated quarterbacks because we won a couple more games and still ended up being a bottom dweller, you're going to see plenty of pissed off Falcons fans. On the other hand, an unlikely division title would be just what the doctor ordered for this team. I just don't think it's going to happen. --------------------------------------------------------...

Atlanta Falcons' DeAngelo Hall Goes Off In Loss To Panthers
2007-09-25 09:01:00 I don?t know why Atlanta Falcons Cornerback De Angelo Hall went off in the game againt Carolina, but I?m sure it was related to the kind of year he?s had thus far. D-Hall?s been torched. He was taken to school by Chad Johnson in the second game of the season, and the Panther?s Steve Smith wasn?t so kind either. Still, he?s been beaten before, so that can?t be the only reason for his actions that producd not one but two personal foul penalties. But after reading the AJC, it seems that Hall?s got a hot head, and Smith may have figured out how to get to him. It certainly worked, as the Panthers scored on the critical three-penalty-drive that led to their victory over the Falcons 27-20. For his part, Hall?s facing a team-given punishment and is going to take it like an adult: "I made a mistake. I promise it won't happen again, no matter what." We?ll see.

Atlanta Falcons - Joey Harrington and His Wide Receivers
2007-08-23 04:18:00 With Michael Vick's plea, the Falcons have no choice but to turn over their offense to former Lions and Dolphins QB Joey Harrington. With the Falcons heavy reliance on the run under Michael Vick, his WRs could be given the benefit of the doubt for their atrocious production. Roddy White's 506 yards were the worst yardage total for the #1WRs by yardage, and Brian Finneran's 604 in 2005 was the thrid worst in the last two seasons. Now that the team is forced into a conventional offense, we will see whether these totals were Vick's fault or not. To get an idea of what could be expected from the wide receivers under a Joey Harrington-led team, I looked at the previous yardage totals of his top targets. Michael Jenkins and Roddy White will check their stat sheets and think Vick is still throwing the ball despite everything their eye tell them. With veteran Joe Horn as the #1 receiver on the depth charts, there is nothing in Harrington's previous five seasons as a starter to make any...

2007-08-21 03:11:00 I had a little something in regards to TSF's NCAA Football Preview planned for tonight but with the recent news announced in regards to the Falcon's QB today - I've gotta share my thoughts on the topic.- % that Vick will go to jail = 100% - % that Vick will serve 1+ year(s) in jail = 100%-% that Vick spends atleast 3 years out of the NFL (Jail time + additional suspensions from Roger Goodell) = 95%- % that Vick ever suits up as an Atlanta Falcon again = 0%- % that Vick ever plays in the NFL Again = 5o%- % of players who still respect Vick = 50%- % of fans who still respect Vick = 5%- % that Vick will ever be marketable again = 0%- % that Vick will be anything like his old self (talent-wise) when/if he comes back = 0%- % of Falcon's fans/players/coaches who would rather have LT = 100%- % of Falcon's fans/players/coaches who would rather have Schaub left to start than Harrington = 100%- % that the Falcons make the playoffs this season = 0%- % that the Falcons win more than 4 game...
