Rick Santorum, Conservative Ideas & the Anti-anti-gay attitudes of most Ame
2012-02-09 00:57:00
Just over two weeks ago, I asked, “Where is the conservative candidate at this conservative moment?” If this election were held on which party had the best vision for the future of America, the Republicans, should they hew to Reagan’s ideals, would win hands-down. Polls show a continuing, if not growing, distrust of the federal ...

I append some comments at the foot of it Bright Minds and Dark Attitudes Lower Cognitive Ability Predicts Greater Prejudice Through Right-Wing Ideology and Low Intergroup Contact Gordon Hodson et al. You are what you Shop: How Clothes and Books reflect Personal Attitudes
2010-09-06 00:29:00
In a materialistic consumer world your shopping defines who you are. The style or brand names you choose to wear, your clothes, shoes and accessories give substantial clues about what kind of person you are, what attitudes you cherish etc. A business-person could be spotted from miles away, while goths have their own way of setting themselves equally apart from the rest of society; all this time, well-groomed artists and musicians are hard to find since that would, more often than not, contradict the image we associate with them. Each of us is instantly communicating with others simply and non-verbally with our appearance. Of course, some of us -me- are not that aware of what kind of messages we give off since we have mostly undervalued and under-appreciated the force and pull of fashion. But experience has taught us -me again - that you cannot go to a job interview with a Labatt (beer label) shirt and expect to get lucky. Although I am not a fond member of the consumer society, I ...
Differences in Attitudes

I’m not sure how many Europeans have heard of it, but Field & Stream is a very popular hunting and fishing magazine in the U.S. It is striking when compared to its European counterparts, because ever since its founding in 1895, Field & Stream has been just as much about conservation of the outdoors as ...
The Negative Aspects and Attitudes of Science versus Religion
2010-08-08 00:09:00
Throughout history - with the exception of the Middle Ages - science and religion have been at odds with each other. While religion tended to lean toward refinement of the spirit and was rather engulfed in spiritual matters at the expense of earthly matters (I am considering most Western religions), science instead chose to accumulate knowledge and to form its theories based on physical bodies. Science preferred and valued events rooted in material evidence, observable facts that could be reproduced and replicated through controlled experiments. Religion became more and more rule-based and dogmatic and thrived mainly on authority and hierarchy. In its negative forms, it developed a specific stance of mind, the ?holier-than-thou? attitude. A priest because of his study, knowledge, experience, contact with the Almighty presupposes special abilities and the right to not only teach, but to actually preach. He considers himself as authorized to show and reveal to the rest of humanity the...
Trappers? Tactics and Attitudes
2010-08-05 13:56:00
I finally got a copy of Jonathan Franzen’s recent article in The New Yorker, “Emptying the Skies” (subscription req’d), and there are some really good bits of detail that should get out more to the public: The worst area in Cyprus for poaching is the British military base on Cape Pyla. The British may be ...

Attitudes Towards Gays & the Future Success of the GOP
2008-11-23 06:00:00
When I followed Glenn’s link to these five ideas for the future of conservatism, I thought the student who penned pixeled them was onto something. Or maybe that’s just because he recommends that David Petraeus run for president in 2012. That great general is my man for the GOP nomination.  He accomplished more in 2007 alone–and ...
Its Easy To Be Cynical about Hillsong and MegaChurches
2008-06-08 06:05:00
After reading Mega Church Watch I have come to the conclusion (or maybe I did years ago) that it’s alot easier to form cynical attitudes to things that grow than applaud someone or something thats doing better than you are. I love the fact that things grow, I don’t sit around being resentful that the tree ...
Britain?s phoney war on terror
2008-05-25 20:06:00
We are too concerned with multiculturalism and political correctness to combat the threat of Islamism effectively. After spending time recently with senior Pentagon officials and other Americans involved in counter-terror-ism, I was struck by the global scope of their concerns. Above all I was reminded how different their attitudes are from those of their British counterparts, ...
China Earthquake Shifts Ethnic Attitudes
2008-05-24 09:42:00
The past several months have ben a time of conflict, upheaval, and natural disasters for China, but an unintended outcome may well be a decline in ethnic prejudice. Democrats: Sour Grapes & Bad Attitudes = Bad Losers
2008-04-24 00:22:00
There is one thing for sure; an observation I can make about the blindingly loyal Obamabots -- They have nothing nice to say about Hillary.I find it ridiculously hypocritical to spend so much time bashing Clinton, demanding that she quit, and calling her unelectable when it is Obama that has lost the last couple of contests.I am not like them, because if I were, it would be completely reasonable to now demand that he stops his campaign and steps aside. Hillary is the most current winner, and the one that has lead more recently in the primaries. I could advance that Obama is in fact experiencing some "buyer's remorse" from the loyal. I am one of those that agonized, flipped and flopped, but when I took the time to hear them both speak made my choice, and she is the one I prefer, but I will not fully denounce him because of it.You can't hate her with all your might, and then say you will support her if she runs against McCain. No more than I can say I only support Hillary, and will ...

Market to Change Customer Behavior, not Attitudes
2008-04-03 05:06:00
Harvard Business School professor John Quelch once said ?The purpose of marketing? should be geared to changing and reinforcing customer actions rather than customer attitude.? I recently revisited this quote and feel it still holds true. But in the age of social media, it is likely to come under siege.Within his quote is the idea that we as marketers need to focus on driving fundamental shifts in customer behavior. Using tactics like pay per click advertising, you can effectively do just that. One well-placed Google AdWords can get prospects to engage in the exact behavior you want them to! It?s short. It works. And John would be pleased!Other forms of media, however, can no longer deliver a captive audience. Customers and prospects have plenty of reasons to dislike media these days: irrelevance, interruption and just plain clutter. But now factor in social media. The media balance is shifting from push to pull. Content creators represent 13% of all U.S. adults online. That means co...
The disciplined trader developing winning attitudes - for huge gains!

Positive Attitudes at Work (Part 2 of 2)
2008-02-23 16:59:00
In my previous post, I argued that positive work attitude is what makes a workplace the best workplace there is, and that it is indispensable to career success. No doubt that as a professional, you were hired because of your education, skills, and experience. But another big reason, where many young professionals don’t know, why an employer chose you over other candidates is simply because of your positive attitudes. How, you may ask? Based on more than a thousand interviews I made in my career, attitudes (good or bad) easily surface during the interviews, and even prior to the interview itself, like waiting for the interviewer at the lounge. Okey, I will not delve on that. That topic deserves a post of its own.How do you develop positive attitudes at work? Let me state, that it should be your objective or goal to identify the positive attitudes that you need to develop as you go about with your work everyday. But here, let me offer Six (6) KRA’s (Key Result Areas -pardon t...

Are our sexual attitudes different from our parents'?
2008-02-19 16:32:00
With our generation?s acceptance of pornography, sex shops and strip clubs, we have ostensibly broken the sexual taboos of our parents? and grandparents? generations. But are sexual attitudes and practices really more racy than in generations past? The answer may not be so clear.A 2006 poll of 1,790 adults by the UK newspaper The Observer found that while most believed in better sex education in schools and in the legalization of prostitution, the age at which they lost their virginity had decreased compared to previous polls.Over a period of four years, the number of those who lost their virginity before the average age of 16 had fallen from 32 per cent to 20 per cent.In light of our alleged hypersexualized culture, the fact teenagers are putting off having sex may come as a surprise. The results seem to indicate that while our sexual attitudes may be more liberal, the same cannot be said for our sexual practices. Sexual differences between our generation and our parents and grandpa...

Positive Attitudes at Work (part 1 of 2)
2008-01-30 16:59:00
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” (Charles R. Swindoll)Each organization or company has its own unique corporate culture, like individuals. There are companies who demand that emplo...
Changing Attitudes Towards Debt?
2008-01-29 15:21:00
This is far more interesting than anything I could write today. I can't get this out of my head. When is the right economic decision for your family the wrong moral choice? Is that even possible? I agree that the conversation is starting to change. And that's a very good thing. I'm not sure all the ramifications are a good thing! Has the conversation changed at your house? Was Christmas spending different this year? If so, was it a fluke or a real change of lifestyle? I think this reinforced my opinion that McMansions are in big trouble! Are builders thinking about the long term implications of all this?

Bad Attitudes!
2008-01-02 15:58:00
It's typical these days. With the girls locked in and not allowed out in the pasture, even though they have plenty of room to stretch their legs, we have some very bad attitudes at breakfast these days. Trust me, neither of these girls are lacking for food. As you can see by the pinned back ears and pursed lips, the bad attitudes are flying. I slept in today so my husband went out to feed and he said Kola actually reared. Thankfully, he just feeds through the fence. She has never done that when I've gone in there, but I received a whole lot of attitude yesterday when I tried to halter her so that I could get a closer look at her eye, which I think is doing fine. Now I did win in the end. They've been pissy for two months solid now since the closing of the pasture, mostly Misty pissed about the pasture and just involves her ignoring me. Kola suddenly now over the food. It is especially cold today. I'm hoping it will warm up by the end of the week and then we will work on a few ma...

Fans, coaches also challenge player attitudes
2007-09-26 21:10:00
Sports Illustrated columnist Stewart Mandel writes that coaches challenge their players' attitudes all the time. Urban Meyer called his tailbacks 'trash' before their title run, but nobody called to chastise him. Yet, a reporter offers some criticism and fans rush to the defense of the poor student-athlete.Mandel writes: "As I wrote on Sunday, Gundy's general point about treating college athletes differently than pros -- one which might have been taken seriously if not for all the SCREAMING, STARE DOWNS and FINGER POINTING -- is a valid one. But let's not kid ourselves about the real reason much of the public is siding with Gundy. It's certainly not lost on me, a columnist, that there's a wide-spread resentment amongst most college football fans toward the media. I'm sure for many people it was a treat to watch a football coach put one of us "know-it-all" writers in his/her place. Because that's the only possible explanation why Gundy -- not Joe Paterno or Bobby Bowden, min...

Attitudes
2007-09-21 13:20:00
Attitudes have been defined in a number of ways each of the traditional definitions contain slightly different conception of what an attitude is or emphasize a somewhat different aspect or it, but we can say that,?Attitudes consist of beliefs, feelings and behaviors.?But more clearly, we can define it as,Definition: ?An enduring evaluation, positive or negative of people, objects and ideas is called attitudes.? OR?A predisposition to respond to a particular object in a generally favorable or unfavorable way.(Ajzen 1982)Different psychologists have defined the attitudes in different ways such as, according to Faris,?Attitude is a tendency to act.?According to Kretch and crutchfield,?An induring organization of motivational, emotional, perceptual and cognitive processes with respect to some aspects of the individual?s world is called attitude.?According to Freeman,?An attitude is an enduring system that includes a cognitive component, a feeling component and an active tendency.?In 193...

Failure to delegate authority properly can result in a breakdown of the managerial structure of an enterprise.
