German State Introduces Autobahn Speed Limit
2008-04-10 19:59:00 Say the word "autobahn," and people's eyes light up around the world. Immediately, dreams of bombing down the highway at unheard of speeds pop into their heads. Now though, at least in one German state, that dream has been dashed. As of Wednesday, drivers in the state of Bremen will no longer be able to put the pedal to the metal. From now on, the maximum speed allowed is 120 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour). In practical terms, the change is not a big one—it only affects 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) of autobahn connecting the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. The rest of the tiny city-state's 49 kilometers (30.5 miles) of autobahn has long had speed restrictions aimed at fighting congestion, noise and pollution. Autobahn Brings Out Big Wheels

I loved riding my 54mm Bones Rippers back on my first ever skate deck, but have since switched to smaller wheels. However, we're not talking about middle of the road 50's we're talking about 60's plus, autobahn is serving up a limited run of 500 sets worldwide, so if you have a cruiser, longboard, pool board, of something that requires big wheels, jump on this before it's too late. No Autobahn speed limits? Not so fast say German Social Democrats!
2007-11-04 02:42:00 Just days after German Chancellor Angela Merkel apparently shot down the idea of imposing across the board speed limits on the autobahn, the issue is back. Merkel leads the Christian Democrats who are in a coalition with the Social Democrats in the German parliament. At the SPD party congress the majority of delegates voted in favor of a 130 km/h speed limit on German highways. The resolution is non-binding and no speed limit law is likely to pass anytime soon without the support of a significant portion of Merkel's party which does not appear to be forthcoming. Nonetheless, with polls showing sixty percent of Germans in favor of the limits, the pressure looks set to increase. Environmental groups that are pushing the proposal say the limits would help cut CO2 emissions by fifteen percent over the long-term and five percent immediately.[Source: Automotive News - Sub. req'd]

2007-04-15 21:19:00 ja....heute war die oldtimer-demo in münchen...und natürlich...wir haben auch mit gemacht ich muß gestehen....es war die erste demo meines lebens ....und die polizei war nicht unser feind ...ganz im gegenteil...sie hat uns beschützt...und ich durfte auch erstmals in meinem leben über rote ampeln fahren ...unter grüner aufsicht (die polizei dein freund und helfer)!als erstes mußten wir nach münchen kommen....und zwar mit dem riley von 1934...jede ampel ...jeder stau eine herausforderung ....aber nach ca. 1 stunde waren wir am treffpunkt ...dem olympia parkplatz...und mit uns waren weit über 1000 oldtimer . und was für welche...von vorkrieg bis nachkrieg..von deutschbis amerikanisch.und alle waren gegen das fahrverbot (ok und manche waren auch wegen des tollen wetters und den vielen autos da)und sogar er hatte schon was dagegen (dabei staubt er garnicht)es gab aber auch lustige sachennach langem warten ging es dann endlich los....und ...die straßen wurden für uns wirklich freigemacht...

Environmentalists Want to Ruin the Autobahn

They say that such a speed limit will reduce the global warming contributing greenhouse gases by up to 30%. Germany’s transport minister Wolfgang Tiefensee rejected the proposal, saying “I am committed to a reduction in emissions but a general speed limit on open stretches of road does not make sense.” I couldn’t agree more. The ACE motorists association said “With its demands for a speed limit, the Environment Agency is just attempting to reheat a discussion which came to an end ages ago.” The car lobby argued that that roads free of limits encourage German manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Volkswagen and Opel to make safer cars, securing jobs.
