AWARAPAN, directed by Mohit Suri, gets it right on both the levels -- on paper first, on celluloid later. For Hindi moviegoers, the story may remind you of Rakesh Roshan's KOYLA [SRK, Madhuri, Amrish Puri], but in actuality, AWARAPAN borrows from director Kim Ji-woon's Korean film A BITTERSWEET LIFE [2005; Korean title: DALKOMHAN INSAENG; starring Lee Byung-Hun, Kim Young-Cheol, Shin Mina]. Nothing wrong with being inspired, since every director has his way of interpreting a story. Also, Mohit adapts the content to suit Indian sensibilities. AWARAPAN is as raw as a gash inflicted by a rod. A number of Hindi films have plunged into the underbelly of the underworld/mafia in the past, so how different is AWARAPAN from films of its ilk? After Pakistan, Awarapan heads to Morocco!
2007-07-05 20:26:00 The Bhatts have to be jubilation at the broad international visibility known to Awarapan, counting a range of unconventional countries. Following the newsbreak that the film will release in cinemas in Pakistan, comes the news that it will also release in Morocco on July 6th or 13th. Besides the US, UK and UAE, not many know that Studio 18 has released the film in as many as 13 other countries such as Indonesia, Spain, Norway, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Fiji, East Africa, South Africa, Philippines, Denmark, Sri Lanka and Thailand. It will be opening in Ireland very soon.
Awarapan confirmed for Pakistan release
2007-07-04 14:32:00 It was exposed previous week that the Censor Board of Pakistan was to examine Mahesh Bhatt's Awarapan on Wednesday 27th June for a let go in Pakistan. On late Tuesday evening, news has it that Awarapan has been cleared by the Pakistani censors. If true, the film will create history, making it the first mainstream Bollywood release to have a full-fledged theatrical release in Pakistan, either on Friday 6th or 13th July. Incidentally, Awarapan was the first film from the Bhatt camp to have a wide overseas release only last week, courtesy of Studio 18 International. Watch this space for more updates on the Pakistan release of Awarapan.

Hong Kong's laser show used for AWARAPAN
2007-06-02 10:13:00 Hong Kong is known for its remarkably splendid laser shows (see picture) in the evening, comprising high quality beams from skyscrapers that penetrate into the atmosphere, creating a stunning spectacle against the city's skyline. In a first of its kind, producer Mukesh Bhatt organised a famous laser show for the shoot of the remix video of To Phir Aao from Awarapan, which is currently on air.Remarks director Mohit Suri, "Laser shows are expensive but phenomenal. They give a different dimension altogether to the visual impact of the song. We've used one such for the To Phir Aao music video."
