Tilting at Windmills
2008-10-25 20:01:00
“Tilting at Windmills” is a metaphoric expression of the futility of fighting a battle one cannot win. The idea is the product of an adventure experienced by the hero in Cervantes’ Don Quixote. In the story, Quixote, a slightly off-kilter errant-knight, mistakes a row of windmills for evil giants and charges them with ...
Quote of the Day - Ayn Rand?s Anthem
2008-06-03 18:15:00
?Perhaps, in those days, there were a few among men, a few of clear sight and clean soul, who refused to surrender that word [the word was “I”]. What agony must have been theirs before that which they saw coming [saw the collective coming] and could not stop! Perhaps they cried out in protest and in warning. But men paid no heed to their warning. And they, these few, fought a hopeless battle, and they perished with their banners smeared by their own blood. And they chose to perish, for they knew.? Ayn Rand Quotes on Objectivism
2008-04-16 13:03:00
"I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine. ""Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter.""Do not ever say that the desire to "do good" by force is a good motive. Neither power-lust nor stupidity are good motives. ""Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone. ""The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see. ""Man's unique reward, however, is that while animals survive by adjusting themselves to their background, man survives by adjusting his background to himself. ""Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong." "The ques...
The Morpheus Proposal

"As Beardsley Ruml pointed out in the 1930s, with the ability to issue currency, the government has no need to tax. It can print as much money as it would ever need. Therefore, in his view, the function of taxes such as the income tax and the inheritance tax, is not to fund the government or provide for constitutionally mandated functions. Instead, the function of these taxes, he wrote in his article for Foreign Affairs magazine, is the redistribution of wealth. From whom? From those capable of producing wealth" ... read more

Neo-Tech Views On Ayn Rand and Objectivism
2008-04-04 07:00:00
Ayn Rand valued Aristotle’s philosophy and developed her own philosophy of reason called Objectivism. Aristotle’s philosophy adhered to the logic of A ‘is’ A, but Alfred Korzybski took ‘is’ away. Frank R Wallace replaced it all with Neo-Tech Objectivism. Frank R Wallace quoted Ayn Rand saying ’save me from the Radians’. Ayn Rand ...
Obama And Abortion . . .
2008-04-02 16:51:00
From Michael Gerson in the WSJ: Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called "too close to infanticide." Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants... Ayn Rand - Money
2008-03-31 12:32:00
Money is your means of survival. The verdict you pronounce upon the source of your livelihood is the verdict you pronounce upon your life . If the source is corrupt , you have damned your own existence . Did you get your money by fraud ? By pandering to men’s vices or men’s stupidity ? By catering to fools , in the hope of getting more than your ability deserves ? By lowering your standards ? By doing work you despise for purchasers your scorn ? (more…)

John Piper on Ayn Rand
2007-10-11 01:56:00
John's take from Desiring God, on the 50th anniversary of Atlas Shrugged, sums up the fallacies in her philosophy when put into the light of Christianity. I love the book, also her other works, including Anthem and The Fountainhead. At their most basic the books put forth her argument for "egoism". It all goes along well, with her points on using your abilities to their fullest to your ultimate glory and not allowing others to get a free ride on your ideas, living off your genius without putting forth effort of their own. Where she veers is a result of her atheistic beliefs. We should use our God Given talents to the best of our ability for His glory, and while not allowing the freeloaders to steal your earthly reward is good business, not using the fruits of His gifts to better the lives of others and draw them to Him is an unforgivable offense.

First-Person Shooter BioShock Owes More to Ayn Rand Than Doom
2007-08-21 05:04:00
Looking for a relaxing vacation spot? Come enjoy the refreshing undersea dystopia of BioShock, a highly anticipated game for Xbox 360 and Windows. From the moment you arrive, you're plunged headfirst into an objectivist social experiment. Banners proclaim ALTRUISM IS THE SOURCE OF ALL EVIL, and perky advertisements preach the wonders of genetic modification. The architecture is all Albert Speer does art deco (A), but the world, called Rapture, is beginning to crumble and let in water. You're soon beset by deranged flappers and dandies, like Jay Gatsby's party guests gone feral (B). And, as in any first-person shooter, you reach for your gun... Or do you? It's just the kind of ethical question that bubbles up from the depths of this game. "We're living in a very gray age," says Ken Levine, cofounder of Irrational Games and lead designer on BioShock. "When I play an ultra-patriotic game, I'm not comfortable unquestioningly accepting what authorities say." Players are bombarded w...

Ayn Rand interviewed in 1959 by Mike Wallace.Follow the rest on YouTube. And then, by Phil Donahue about 20 years later.I've yet to watch both of them in their entirety, but what I did watch was fascinating to me.I didn't want to just bury this in my Sunday Click Around.Ayn's philosophy is very interesting to me. She seemed to have softened a bit by the late 70's, but some of her logic would have made Hitler proud, other parts are pretty convincing.Fascinating.

Objectivism : Ayn Rand Philosophy
2006-03-18 11:21:00
Who says a woman doesnot have a sound head over her shoulders. I dont know if the statement is wrong, but there has been an exception to this fact(if it is so). The lady who gave the philosophy of Objectivism and through her mammoth Novels namely 'Atlas Shrugged' and 'Fountainhead' was indeed more brainy than even most of the men we have seen in the glorious past of our Literature.Formally Ayn Rand named her philosophy "Objectivism" but she caled it a philosophy of living on earth."My philosophy in essence," she said, "is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity and reason as his only absolute." Strong characters which portray her theory in true spirit namely, Howard Roark(inFountainhead) and John Galt (in Atlas Shrugged) have bean beautifully handled in the stories which have attained the status of classics over the years. Though they were written back in the 1940s but the ...
