With monsoon, Kerala health resorts woo tourists with ayurveda
2008-06-02 07:28:00
&-nbsp;    &n-bsp;    &nb-sp;    &nbs-p;    With the monsoon rains descending on Kerala, creating just the right cool and balmy atmosphere, health resorts and clinics in the southern Indian state are ready with their ayurveda packages to pamper and heal tourists. The theory that monsoon is the best season for ayurveda rejuvenation programmes has been proved right because the atmosphere remains dust-free and moist, opening up the pores of the body and making it most receptive to herbal oils and therapy.      &-nbsp; Another reason behind ayurveda's success in Kerala is the state's climate and the abundant supply of herbs and medicinal plants, vital ingredients for making the medicines. While the tariff is competitive among the resorts, the least one would have to cough up is around 40 to 60 euros for a day.      &-nbsp;  The m...

Without realising I have been using too many internet slang/lingo in my day to day life. LHM

Using Ayurveda For Treating Acne:
2008-01-27 16:51:00
Acne and Ayurveda have been around for a long time; so there is no harm in trying out Ayurveda for treating your acne problems. Ayurveda is a form of natural healing that works on the philosophy that the body is made of four parts; soul, mind, body and senses.   Ayurveda works at balancing these components as its imbalance leads to physical and psychological problems. So by using Ayurveda in acne treatment, the right diet and herbal remedies help in giving a clear skin that is free of blemishes.   Avoid fried and spicy foods as it increases acne breakouts; instead it is better to eat more of soft foods like oatmeal and fruits. In Ayurveda, there are three types of skin; vata- dry and rough; pitta-skin with freckles and kapha-oily skin which require different forms of skin care.   If you have dry skin (vata), it is better to apply essential oils and herbs that help moisturize the face. In addition to this, you have to follow a regular sleeping schedule and maintain a healthy diet....

Massage parlours- threat to Ayurveda
2007-09-24 06:52:00
Massage parlours- threat to AyurvedaMushrooming of the so called Ayurvedic massage parlours and spas sans qualified therapists is posing a threat to the health of customers as well as the credibility of the Indian stream of medicine, say experts. During the past few years, a lot of centres have sprung up offering ayurvedic massages and therapies as part of wellness treatments and they often "dilute" the treatment methods for making a quick buck, they say. "Even though this shows the growing popularity of Ayurveda, the attempt to dilute the system for purely commercial interests will do great harm to this stream of medicine," said Dr U Indulal, Deputy Director, Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore. Echoing his view, Dr C Madhusoodanan, Chief of the Ayurveda wing at Kumaran Hospital, Chennai, said many of the centres do not even have doctors, proper facilities, medicinal oils or qualified therapists. There were even reports about raids being carried out at some of the centres for immoral ...
Use ayurveda to your benefit
2007-09-17 12:34:00
Use ayurveda to your benefitAyurveda lays more emphasis on prevention than cure. A person falls prey to various kinds of diseases if he over indulges in, underutilises or stops exercising his senses and their desires while ignoring the body constitution. Excessive nourishment also blocks the channels through which prana flows and results in an imbalance causing diseases. In either case, there is no replenishment to dhatus and the body's ability to fight infections and other harmful external influences decreases and disease manifests. Rasa dhatu is the most important of body fluids and provides nourishment to every part of the body by circulating through various channels to provide essential nutrients required for the healthy functioning of all systems and organs. It also nourishes the remaining six dhatus in the body. Herbs or preparations that are in the Rasayana category of various ayurvedic preparations nourish Rasa dhatu . Shatavri (asparagus racemosus) is an excellent tonic es...
Distilled ayurveda

Distilled ayurvedaIf there was one thing, or principle of Ayurveda that you think one should emphasise above all else, what would it be? One thing everyone can do for their health is to improve digestion. If your digestive fire is working properly, then you will extract the maximum nourishment from what you eat without any toxic residual called ama. Health in Ayurveda means there is a free flow of intelligence throughout the mind/body system. This intelligence flows through the gross channels of the body called shrotas, and through the subtle channels ofthe non-physical body called nadis. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.-com/articleshow/1353857.cms
Acne Free Skin through Ayurveda
2007-09-10 09:53:00
Tip! Last but not least is starting early, these tips can be even more helpful if you start them before your acne has a chance to get started. All teens will have acne at some point, don’t wait to use these only when you have an outbreak. Acne is a very common skin problem which affects young people at their puberty and few adults till they reach 45. Acne are referred as Youvana pitikas (which means the eruptions of youth) in ayurveda. This shows the prevalence of acne from ages. Ayurveda has described the causes of acne and recommends the best natural herbal acne remedies too. What causes acne? A large number of oil producing glands called “sebaceous glands” are present under the skin ( see figure (http://www.ayurhelp.com/Normal-_skin.htm) - skin cross section) on face, back, chest and shoulders. During puberty or menopause due to the influence of the sex hormones, which are produced in male and female, these glands become more active and produce an oily secretion...

Ayurveda | the knowledge of right living
2007-08-01 18:14:00
What is Ayurveda Ayurveda is the 5,000 year old ?Science of Life? from India. The term Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit terms "Ayu" meaning "life" and "Veda" meaning "knowledge". The literal translation of "Ayurveda" is "knowledge of life" or "right living". The Ayurveda studies the physical and psychic behaviour of people and prescribes ways for them to synchronize with their environment so as to live happy, healthy and inspired lives.Much emphasis in Ayurveda is given to diet, following the cycles of the seasons, getting up before dawn and other useful practices for enriching life. Information dealing with diseases, their diagnosis and cures also exists within Ayurveda. This Ayurveda knowledge is grounded in the Vedic scriptures and was also strongly influenced by the Tantric traditions. The science of health formulated by these seers was as intensely spiritual as it was practical. For those of us who are tired of the schism between mysticism and science, Ayurveda offers a comprehe...

Kerala govt for inclusion of ayurveda in NRHM
2007-06-03 03:56:00
In order to improve the condition of ayurveda health centres and dispensaries spread across the state, the Health Department in Kerala is trying for incorporating the ayurveda in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). According to sources, Kerala Health Minister Srimathi Teacher is likely to hold talks with Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss in this regard soon. The state health department is adopting this measure as the ISM department feels that its participation in the NRHM will be beneficial for the development of ayurveda health centers and dispensaries which are not in good shape in the state. It will also be good for the proper utilization of ayurveda knowledge base prevalent in the state for the betterment of the nation. According to sources, till date Kerala's ayurveda department had not been an integral part of the NRHM and had been functioning as a separate entity in the state. Monsoons, the best time for ayurveda in Kerala
2007-06-02 09:09:00
With the monsoons making a grand entry into Kerala, tourist resorts and ayurvedic spas are all ready with rejuvenating health packages. The rainy season, experts say, is the best time for Ayurvedic treatment. Although Ayurveda evolved centuries ago in India, it has only in recent years that it has become a huge selling point for Kerala's tourism industry, especially in the months June-August. According to ayurveda specialists, the monsoon season is the best time for treatments as the atmosphere remains dust-free and cool, which helps open the pores of the body to the maximum. This makes the body more receptive to herbal oils and other ayurveda medicines. Ayurveda believes in the treatment of not just the affected part, but also the individual as a whole. It is considered a natural way to refresh oneself by eliminating all toxic imbalances from the body and thus regain good health. C.J. Naveen, a physician at the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort near Kovalam, said his resort...

Ayurveda has given a miraculous remedy to soothe up tensed up nerves and rejuvenate brain cells. Brahmi, also known as Bacopa, is considered a fabulous brain tonic for centuries. It is very effective in treating insomnia. It also improves intelligence and memory. It has been found helpful in treating attention deficit disorder in hyperactive children. Even our sages and seers in ancient time used to consume Brahmi. My personal experience is also the same. Its effects are wonderful. It also rejuvenates skin, hair and nails. I encourage my kids also to take it, as it is very helpful in improving academic performance. In fact it sharpens mental alertness and improves short term and long term memory. Apart from its soothing effect on nerves, it is also very helpful in deepening the meditation.

Ayurveda and Spa in Goa In earlier times, ashrams were the places of seeking health. People lived under the guidance of sages to recuperate. These ashrams were not luxurious materialistically, but together with ayurveda, yoga and meditation, they worked wonders. Switch over to the present times, the ashrams have been replaced by stylish spas. These spas use the same age old Ayurveda, along with the some modern day therapies and techniques and yoga asans to help you transform into a newer self. Ayurveda institutes have found out and marketed the secrets of natural herbs. These are used by spas not just in India but across the Globe. In the words of Spa brochures ‘ you discover a newer self’, ‘your body, soul and mind are united’ , ‘you experience a rejuvenated physical, emotional and spiritual being’.
