Having showed us a video-clip of a 2 year old retelling the story of Jonah, she reminded us that children's ministry leaders and volunteers are not baby-sitting! They are building into the lives of the smallest among us and being Jesus with skin on to them.This reminded me of how often I have spoken to children's ministry volunteers who have told me that they are "just" Sunday School teachers or that they "just" pack the activities for the children or that they "just" sing with the children on a Sunday. My goodness! When we consider that 83% people who come to Christ do so before age 13 (see George Barna's site), we are not "just" anything! We are engaged in the most strategic play in the church today. We need to understand that our role is one of the most important and impactful in the Christian world.
