Advice On Hand Baggage Security Measures
2008-05-29 07:00:00 Of all the types of baggage, carryon hand baggage is certainly the most secure, simply because it usually stays with you, or at least it should stay with you, at all times. Therefore, you can give it your own personal attention. However, it is worth bearing in mind that thieves are very aware that of all ...

How To Cheat The Baggage Weight Limits
2008-05-29 07:00:00 It always seems remarkable how stringent the weight limit on baggage is for airlines. When one looks at the colossal size and weight of the aircraft you intend flying on, an extra couple of jumpers seems unlikely to cause any real great effort as far as getting the machine in the air is concerned. However, we ...

McCain woos some Hispanics, others see baggage
2008-05-18 23:29:00 PHOENIX (Reuters) - Arturo Leyva has voted Democratic in the past, like many U.S. Hispanics. This year, the candidate catching his eye happens to be a Republican: John McCain. "He has a lot to offer Hispanics, and I think I may vote for him," Leyva, 45, said at his cellular phone store in central Phoenix. U.S. Hispanic support for the Republican Party, small but growing steadily over the past decade, has ebbed in the past year, following a bruising battle over illegal immigration. Republican lawmakers last June sank a comprehensive immigration bill -- co-sponsored by McCain -- that would have created a path to citizenship for many of the 12 million mostly Hispanic undocumented immigrants in the United States. However, Hispanic voters may see a sympathetic candidate in the Arizona senator, some analysts say. "Hispanic voters have not yet gelled for any candidate yet. In this election it is up for grabs," said Paul Brace, a political science professor at Rice University. "The in...

baggage
2008-04-17 07:09:00 Ugh. Baggage. More specifically, luggage. Remember a few months ago I spent a bunch of money on some fancy new Samsonite luggage? I had a cashback reward from a credit card, and if I traded it in for a voucher from a selection of companies - the amount was doubled. This is how I ended up with $160 in Samsonite money that could only be redeemed in an outlet store. Luckily, there’s a Samsonite outlet store about 10 minutes from my house. I picked out the most lovely suitcases. A big one, a medium one and I got a free carry-on. It’s a nice Martha Stewart-green, and I love it. But guess what? The airlines don’t. Apparently the big one weighs a good 15 pounds empty, and always seems to be overweight - even when it’s only half-filled. This is a pain in my booty. Next, on the first trip the big suitcase took to Oklahoma, the cool little Samsonite emblem fell off. I know the ramp guys are brutal, but only one trip? That stinks. Anyway, I don’t know what you&rs...

Naomi Campbell Arrested Over Baggage Issue?
2008-04-04 02:35:00 London police officers were advised of a disturbance today at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5. The UK Times reports that 37-year-old Naomi Campbell was removed from the First Class Lounge of Terminal 5 after "ranting and screaming" over a lost bag. Haven't we all, though? Okay, I've never ranted and screamed over a lost bag in public, but definitely once I got home. Metropolitan police confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was taken into custody and remains at the Heathrow police station, but declined to confirm whether or not the woman is in fact Campbell. Well, good--innocent until proven guilty, right?

SouthWest To Donate Unclaimed Baggage
2008-02-10 18:53:00 A recent announcement by Southwest Airlines states that they are going to donate unclaimed baggage to the Salvation Army. I think it’s a great idea, but it brings up an interesting question. Where is the unclaimed baggage coming from? Dumb question if you think about it, but take a step back for a second. Is unclaimed baggage from someone that jumped off the plane and said to them self that they don't need their stuff anymore or is it really lost luggage that after being lost (leave it to you to think about who loses luggage) it then goes unclaimed? I can only guess at the amount of money that airlines spend tracking down people to return lost luggage. I just hope that they still put in the effort before donating it.

United Enhances Baggage Service with New Fee
2008-02-05 00:00:00 United Airlines announced today its newest customer service initiative. Charging passengers who bring a second bag. It's long been accepted practice for most airlines to accept two bags to place down below in the checked luggage area. United, faced with a competitive environment and higher fuel costs are looking to make that money up somewhere.First they tried to impose a $25 fuel surcharge per flight segment. With nobody matching, that fee was quietly withdrawn a few days later. Today, they've announced that same fee returning, but only for customers who purchase a discounted fare and check a second bag. This will, by United's own account, affect one quarter of passengers on domestic flights. It's generally assumed that International flights will be unaffected. Also frequent fliers with status will be exempt as well. They aren't the only carrier with recent changes in baggage. Southwest made their policy for extra baggage more in line with most other US carriers, now only accep...

Leave The Past Baggage Behind
2008-01-10 19:31:00 Imagine!! You are in the Pyramid and there are many secret doors. Inside one door, you found the bags full of gold. When you got inside the door, the door started closing. Now you have two choices, either leave the bag and exit to explore new things or stick with the bag and stuck in one place forever. What will you do in that case?Well that's just an imagination. But in real life, it happens too, but in a different way. Instead of bag full of gold, it's full of memories, past memories. You got some, I got some, every person has some kind of history, or "baggage", although at varying levels. Carrying baggage of the past is the burden for your present. You cannot ruin your present because of past. Past is gone and neither you can change it or neither there is any benefit remembering it. But is it easy to forget the past? The pain, heart break, broken relationship that you have gone through. Well, it won't be easy, but it won't be good either to stuck up in one place and keep hurt...

From Jan 1st - Spare Lithium Batteries No Longer Allowed in Checked Baggage
2007-12-30 23:45:00 From January 1st the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued new regulations with regards to carrying Spare Lithium batteries. Effective January 1, 2008, spare lithium batteries - extra batteries not installed on devices - will no longer be allowed in checked baggage. Spare lithium batteries may be packed in carry-on baggage and lithium batteries installed in a device may be packed in either checked or carry-on, as long as the battery is installed in the device. With all the furore over the laptop battery recalls I'm not surprised but this move. You can get more details on the change in regulations HERE

Serious Baggage: Envirosax
2007-11-27 06:22:00 I admit I feel a twinge of guilt when I am at the grocery store and the checker asks if I would prefer paper or plastic. Either way you go you are either killing a tree or filling a landfill. One of the easiest and most basic things we can do to save trees and prevent waste from non-biodegradable bags is to use reusable bags to take our stuff home in. Fortunately, I have recently discovered a reusable grocery tote that is actually VERY cute and chic! Envirosax are eco-friendly and reuseable, and they actually have me excited about the idea of using them, unlike the previous reusable bags I have seen that look like a plain jane potato sack with shoulder straps. Get me looking at it as an accessory and I am that much more likely to use it! Which is the point, right? The designs are truly cool. In the graphic series, there are 5 sets of designs. You can purchase single bags for $8.50, or you can choose the pouch, which has 5 coordinating bags of your chosen design set, that all fit int...

Take Your Baggage
2007-11-04 16:32:00 Ms. New Beauty has always felt a real connection with the elderly. She loves to spend a lazy afternoon with a person of a certain age soaking up that wisdom and insight that only comes from having lived quite a long time. As a child, MNB spent almost every weekend with her grandmother, just asking questions like "Mom mom, why they do that?" and listening to the thoughtfulness of the response. The one thing that Ms. New Beauty has always loved about the elderly is the seemingly bottomless pit of platitudes that they all seem to have. Those simple sayings always make her laugh. A response to stay out past 10 met with a "ain't nothing open that late but 7-11 and legs!" will make Ms. New Beauty crack up on the spot. And, she carries the sageness of "when you see crazy walking towards you, cross the street" with her everyday. One of her favorites though is "when you put the devil out, make him take his baggage." It's so simple on its face, but much more profound after some cons...

Lighten Your Load: Transforming Emotional Baggage
2007-10-17 07:14:00 Written by Christine Horn, MA Click here to contact Christine and/or see her GoodTherapy.org Profile “The past is the past. Don’t cry over spilled milk. Put it behind you. Get over it already.” We all have voices within ourselves that say these kinds of things. Usually it is after some event or interaction has left us feeling angry, lonely, or hurt. These messages are from parts within ourselves that want to protect us. By saying these things they calm us down and prevent us from becoming “triggered” - feeling and reacting from the “emotional baggage” of our old, painful experiences and self-limiting beliefs. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a style of therapy that calls these different voices parts. The language of “parts” may sound odd at first. Yet, we often speak this way quite naturally. For instance we may say, “part of me wants to go out tonight, but another part of me wants to stay home and chill out.” With IFS we use this language to get t...
Second Thoughts on Checking Baggage
2007-10-08 20:37:00 A black suitcase sails by. Then a red one. Next comes a blue one. Oh, and there is the black one again. The streaming line of suitcases has come to a halt, and you find yourself at the carousel sans luggage and sans patience. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, you won’t be the only one in line at the baggage office. In the month of July, there was an average of 7.93 reports of mishandled luggage per 1,000 passengers, one of the worst months in 20 years. For the math majors out there, that breaks down to one passenger on every Boeing 737 flight. American Airlines affiliate American Eagle had the worst rate of mishandling 13.96 bags per 1,000 fliers while Hawaiian Air and Aloha Airlines had the best rates of 3.1 and 3.72, respectively. They may operate on island time, but if that means getting your bag to right place, we’re on board.

Baggage
2007-09-26 21:13:00 I started thinking about this post in the morning. It was the inner child talking, telling me that I am crap, that I scare off everybody I have a relationship with, that I am too jealous, that nobody can seriously love me, and everybody are just pretending that they like me. Sometimes, I am so caught up in this emotion that I really belive it is true, and when I am there, it is very hard to reach me.I caught myself damaging my relationship with my Love yesterday. I got jealous of something I had created in my own head and my Love was completly innocent, but still I blamed him for something that was just in my head. About 15 min after it had happend I realized what I had done, I just wish that I could catch myself before I get sucked into the emotion, and before I damage what I value so high. This is what I hate the most about having been wrongly programmed when growing up. It is still affecting me, and maybe it will affect me my whole life. I hate that I have to struggle to break pat...
