Haifa Wehbe: performs in Bahrain despite a ban
2008-05-02 00:51:00 The Bahrain parliament is conservative, even by Gulf standards. The MP's have a track record of targeting entertainment they consider too liberal. Female Lebanese singers in particular have come in for close attention.Much to the annoyance of Bahrainis who like to have fun, the parliament decided to ban an upcoming Haifa Wehbe show. They claim that Wehbe's performance would be too sexually provocative and would violate Islamic conventions. It seems a little hypocritical to discriminate against Haifa Wehbe in this way. Tourists in Bahrain can go to night clubs and hotels to watch belly dancers. The belly dance, known as Raks al Sharki, has plenty of sex appeal - so much so it is even banned in countries with strict Islamic laws. The concert ban went ahead despite assurances by Tariq Al Bahhar, a media spokesperson for Ms Wehbe. He made it clear that the show wouldn't breach any of Bahrain's laws. He also said that the performer would "cover up" with the assistance of jeans and a sw...

BAHRAIN WORLD TRADE CENTER
2008-04-11 10:42:00 The images here is the Bahrain World Trade Center and they are not rendered perspectives but real structure built with awesome features. The structure itself is aesthetically awesome but for it to have wind turbines attached to its structure and the addition that these turbines are actually producing and supplying 10-15% power demand for the two towers is incredibly astonishing. Today, this structure is recognize as the world's first wind-powered mega structure. The three 29m-diameter turbine blades on Bahrain’s iconic landmark are the first in the world to be integrated on such a scale into a commercial development and are forecast to provide the equivalent of 11-15% of the power for the two towers when fully operational. The successful rotation of the blades involved collaboration between Atkins architects and engineers and turbine specialists Norwin, who were in Bahrain for the milestone event. “Having all three turbines spinning simultaneousl...

Bahrain a full runthrough
2008-04-07 13:45:00 The Bahrain GP had a few revelations and showed some issues, so it made for an interesting race from the technical side, as well as a decent race from a racing point of view. Let’s get onto the disappointing day for McLaren. Not only was their car completely off the pace all weekend, but their Star driver made a complete hash of it, and the team had to rely on the new boy to score points. Lewis Hamilton had a terrible day, from the start he bogged down his McLaren, forcing Heikki to take a detour around him, this put him tenth, behind Fernando Alonso in his Renault. Then to add insult to the injury he ran into the back of the Renault, destroying both his and Fernando’s race as he destroyed his nose, and took a huge chip out of Fernando’s rear wing (see pic left). To be fair to Fernando he raced on, and did a decent job considering the damage to the car, it may only look like a small piece missing, but he will have had a huge loss of rear downforce, as well as vibr...

Bahrain Grand Prix Recap
2008-04-07 09:56:00 In the two weeks since the Malaysian Grand Prix, most of the talk and F1 gossip should have centered on the early season battle of pace between Ferrari, McLaren, and an impressive BMW Sauber. Instead, most of the rumors and finger-wagging had to do with Max Mosely, president of the FIA, world motorsport’s governing body. Seems Britain’s News of the World newspaper found a video of ol’ Max involved in some sort Nazi sex orgy, where he plays the prison camp guard doling out “punishment” upon poor, innocent prisoners. He was kindly uninvited to the kingdom for this weekend’s races. Weird sex habits aside, Bahrain helped to establish a few things that could have an important bearing on the rest of the season. First and foremost, BMW Sauber could very well win a race this season. Robert Kubica turned in a brilliant lap to claim his first-ever pole position. Pole on pole! Though he lost the position at the lights to a fast-starting Felipe Massa in his F...

Bahrain GP: I've let the team down - Hamilton
2008-04-07 04:44:00 April 7, BBC NewsLewis Hamilton said he had failed his McLaren team after finishing 13th in the Bahrain Grand Prix and losing the lead of the world championship.Hamilton made a mistake at the start, dropped to the back after a collision with former team-mate Fernando Alonso and was unable to make up lost ground."I am really disappointed and feel like I let the team down," he said."You need to pick up the pieces and deliver points. I didn't do that. The collision with Alonso cost the race."The 23-year-old Englishman slipped from third to 10th at the start of the race to find himself stuck behind Alonso's Renault.Hamilton tried to get past Alonso on the second lap but instead he went up and over the back of the Spaniard's car, losing his front wing in the process. Some observers suggested Alonso appeared to slow down and give Hamilton a "brake test" but the McLaren driver refused to condemn his former McLaren team-mate."I am always the first to blame it on myself," said Hamilton. "T...

Bahrain Grand Prix: Ferrari dominates.
2008-04-06 16:48:00 Today, for the third leg of the Formula One championship, Robert Kubica in his BMW-Sauber had the privilege to start from the pole position in front of the Ferraris. But the Ferraris did not waste any time to take the lead. After the second lap, both Ferrari drivers were in front of Kubica's BMW. While Ferrari was taking the lead of the race, Lewis Hamilton completely missed his start, collided with Fernando Alonso and then went back all the way to the 18th position. After the numerous position changes following the start of the race, the situation stabilized itself and we saw a lot less position changes in the later stages of the competition. Both BMW-Sauber cars finished behind the Ferrari but are now leading the constructors championship after three events. We could have an interesting 3-way race for the constructors championship until the end of the season. With all his problems encoutered during the early stages of the race, Lewis Hamilton did not score any points and finished 13t...
