2011-01-12 22:30:00 Suanne and I hardly go to Chinatown anymore. We used to. Many many years ago, we would drive down to Chinatown at least twice a month to buy groceries and also have dim sum. And then we stopped going. There was no longer a need to drive all the way there as we get better food and groceries in Richmond. It had been so long, we just lost touch with Chinatown. Thomas recently wrote to us about a restaurant where he had a dish called Baked Portuguese Pork Chop with Rice. He said it was called May Sum. We searched high and low on the internet but we could not find it. It was only a week later that we realized that he was using the phonetic translation of the Chinese name of the restaurant. So May Sum is actually Maxim?s which is a more recognizable name. We had always thought that Maxim?s only a bakery. We see a lot of Maxim?s bakeries around town. However, they also have a restaurant, a Hong Kong Style Cafe, on Keefer in Chinatown. We were not aware until Thomas told us.

Until now, I have not heard of anyone I know who had lost their job but me thinks it's the calm before the storm. So, we thought we should start looking at spending a bit lesser on dining out. When we think about budget, no frills meal, we often head off to Happy Date. It just dawned on us that despite being there so many times, we had never gotten down to blog on them. Happy Date is located on Park Road just off where the Richmond City Hall is. It is a very popular Hongkong Style eatery. Like many HK style cafes, they also have a bakery but I don't really think highly of their bakery. I much prefer the ones found in The Boss, Kam Do and particularly Lido.

We folded up the cot, and moved the rest of the stuff in the way to the front part of the trailer. There are two, fifty five gallon, plastic drums filled with feed in the back. It isn't practical to move these to the front, so we loaded Blackie in with those beside him. The water tanks were getting low, and there was quite a bit of trash we needed to dispose of, so we backtracked south on Highway 29 to a gas station. We then drove through Lynchburg and stopped at strip mall in Amherst, Virginia. There were “No pedestrians bicycles, animals, self propelled machinery...” signs to this point.
